How to make five-minute blackcurrant jam

Five-minute blackcurrant jam for the winter is one of the most popular homemade recipes. It is prepared very simply and, most importantly, quickly.

How to cook blackcurrant for five minutes

Methods for preparing “five minutes” can be different. They differ in the quantity and composition of ingredients, technological features. But the cooking time is always approximately the same - 5 minutes. This is not only the fastest way, but also the most gentle. Minimal temperature treatment makes it possible to preserve the taste of fresh berries and most of its beneficial properties.

Black currants are second only to lemons and some other fruits in vitamin C content, for example, sea buckthorn and red currants.These black, shiny berries contain almost all the vitamins and minerals and organic acids necessary for humans. During short cooking, vitamin C and other substances are retained in almost their entire composition (70% or more).

Thanks to this composition, jam has many therapeutic and prophylactic properties and has a beneficial effect on the body, having the following effect:

  • restorative;
  • diuretic;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • diaphoretic.

These fruits are useful for hypovitaminosis, gastritis, high blood pressure, and hepatic (kidney) colic. However, it should be remembered that black currants tend to thicken the blood. Therefore, elderly people who are prone to blood clots should eat fruits in moderation. In addition to a high concentration of vitamins and minerals, berries contain many essential substances, which gives them a unique aroma.

It is convenient to measure the ingredients for five-minute blackcurrant jam (regular, jelly) in glasses. In many recipes you can see how the amount of berries and other components is indicated not in kilograms and liters, but in the form of clearly fixed volumes such as glasses and cups. The most used proportions for 5-minute blackcurrant jam are 6 (currants): 9 (sugar): 3 (water).

What vessel to cook in

To prepare blackcurrant jam, it is best to take a pan with a thick, wide bottom, low sides or a special basin. This makes it easier to mix the berry mass during cooking. It will be better distributed over the bottom surface and will warm up evenly. Moisture evaporates more intensely, which means the cooking process goes faster and it becomes possible to retain more vitamins.

Attention! The most suitable pans are those made from non-oxidizing materials, such as stainless steel or enameled. The volume of the dishes should be in the range from 2 to 6 liters, no more.
