How to make Japanese quince jam

This shrub pleases the eye in spring with abundant and long flowering. Orange, pink, and white flowers literally strew the bushes. This is Chaenomeles or Japanese quince. Many people plant it as an ornamental plant. The small, hard fruits that grow towards the end of autumn are simply ignored. It is simply impossible to eat them - they are too hard and sour. But making jam is not only possible, but also necessary, especially since Chaenomeles’s relative, large-fruited quince, cannot be grown in all regions.

Advice! If you want Chaenomeles fruits to grow larger, remove some of the flowers so that the distance between them is at least 5 cm.

The benefits from them are simply amazing.

Benefits of Chaenomeles

  • This is a multivitamin plant. Compared to large-fruited quince, it contains 4 times more vitamin C.
  • The fruits of Chaenomeles are a real storehouse of vitamins and minerals, including those very necessary for the body: iron, copper, zinc and silicon.
  • It is a natural immunomodulator and at the same time an antiseptic, which makes it possible to use Japanese quince for many diseases.
  • The plant allows you to effectively fight atherosclerosis, dissolving cholesterol plaques and strengthening the walls of blood vessels.
  • Fights anemia.
  • Helps in the treatment of liver diseases, removing toxic substances from it and regenerating tissue.
  • Fights edema of various origins and bile stagnation.
  • Improves blood clotting and therefore fights bleeding. If you have increased blood clotting, and especially the presence of blood clots, quince should not be consumed.
  • Due to the content of a considerable amount of serotonin, Chaenomeles fruits are an excellent remedy for depression.
  • The fruits of this plant help cope with toxicosis during pregnancy. But remember that Japanese quince is a strong allergen, so you should not eat more than ¼ of the fruit at a time. Before taking, you should consult your doctor.

Warning! Chaenomeles fruits are not suitable for everyone. They are strictly contraindicated for ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract, constipation, and pleurisy.

Quince seeds should also not be consumed, as they are toxic.

To preserve all the beneficial substances, it is better to consume this healing fruit raw, but pureed.
