Plum juice for the winter

Plum juice is not only a very tasty product, but also healthy. Since it is not very popular among consumers of packaged juices (which means that it is more difficult to find on store shelves than drinks made from other fruits and berries), it is healthier and easier to prepare it yourself.

How to make plum juice: general rules

Despite the variety of recipes, there are also general rules for preparing homemade plum juice, based on which you can create your own variations of preparations:

  1. The first rule applies to any preservation - preparation must take place in a clean manner, the products must not contain foreign impurities, and jars and lids must first be sterilized or at least washed thoroughly and doused with boiling water.
  2. One kilogram of fruit usually contains 100 grams of sugar.
  3. Fruits intended for harvesting must be of good quality - ripe, not rotten or overripe.It is advisable to use sweet varieties, but this, of course, is a matter of taste.
  4. It is not advisable to mix plums with other fruits during the process.
  5. In order for the fruits to produce juice better, they are scalded with boiling water before cooking.

Prune juice: benefits and harms

The beneficial properties of the drink are not limited to its relatively low calorie content (50 kilocalories per 100 grams). It includes:

  • vitamins B, A, C;
  • potassium and phosphorus;
  • pectins and tannins.

Due to its high potassium content, the drink has a positive effect on the nervous system, strengthens blood vessels, and, therefore, can be used to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Important! Plum juice is good for the intestines and has a laxative and diuretic effect, milder than that which occurs after eating fresh fruit.

The antioxidants contained in the drink have a beneficial effect on the body, improving the condition of the skin and hair. The drink is also useful for people suffering from high cholesterol in the blood, as well as anemia, kidney and liver diseases.

However, this product also has disadvantages. Firstly, it is not recommended for use in case of individual contraindications. Secondly, despite its low calorie content, it cannot be used for weight loss (and it is strictly prohibited for obesity or diabetes), since the ratio of fatty acids in it is extremely uneven - there is a strong bias towards carbohydrates. Thirdly, it is better not to abuse it for gastrointestinal diseases and rheumatism.
