Roses are one of the most popular ornamental crops; they can be found in almost every garden. Recently, many new varieties of this crop have been developed, distinguished by their original coloring of flowers. Rose Red Intuition is one of the relatively new varieties, the distinctive feature of which is the unusual color of the petals.
History of selection
The variety was bred in France in 1999. From the collection of famous Delbar breeders. It belongs to the hybrid tea varieties; the flower is grown for cutting.
Description of the hybrid tea rose variety Red Intuition and characteristics
The hybrid tea rose "Red Intuition" grows to 0.9-1.2 m in height, the bush is dense, up to 0.7 m wide, its shoots are smooth, almost without thorns. The leaves are semi-glossy and green.
The flowers are goblet-shaped, the color ranges from burgundy-garnet to crimson, but not monochromatic; red stripes with fuzzy edges, specks, and lines run along the surface of the petals. The unusual color gives the rose originality. The flowers are double, consist of 45 petals, medium and large in size with a diameter of 9-12 cm, with a velvety surface.There is usually 1 bud per stem, but sometimes, although rarely, there are more. There is a subtle pleasant aroma. The variety blooms from June to July, almost continuously.
The variety "Red Intuition" has average frost resistance; the bushes need shelter. Resistance to diseases and pests is high, especially to black spot and powdery mildew.
Advantages and disadvantages
The French variety “Red Intuition”, in addition to the unusual color of the flowers, for which many gardeners like it, has other advantages:
- grows on any soil, the main thing is that their reaction is slightly acidic;
- unpretentiousness;
- resistance to drought, roses can be planted even in the southern regions;
- resists fungal infections well and is easy to treat;
- rapid opening of buds;
- long lush flowering;
- delicate persistent aroma.
The variety also has disadvantages. This is the instability of opened flowers to dampness and rain, during which they become sloppy, and some thickening of the shoots, which is why the bushes need intensive pruning.
Reproduction methods
The “Red Intuition” variety, like all hybrid tea roses, can be propagated by cuttings, dividing the bush, or grafting. It is best to take cuttings from roses in early spring or mid-autumn, when the air temperature and soil moisture are most favorable. In summer, cuttings may not take root. They should be approximately 1 cm thick and at least 15 cm long. The lower leaves are removed by 2/3 of the length, and the halves of the upper leaves are cut off to reduce evaporation.
The cuttings are placed in a jar filled with water with the addition of a root formation stimulator. When white roots appear on them, they are planted in light, fertile soil for further rooting.Or the cuttings are planted directly on a separate bed in a substrate consisting of peat and sand. They are buried 2/3 of the way into the soil, watered, the ground is covered with film or a glass jar is placed above each to create a greenhouse effect. At first, rose cuttings are watered with water, to which you can add a little root formation stimulator. There is no need to feed anything. It is important to ensure that the soil always remains moist and does not dry out. Cuttings should take root in approximately 1-1.5 months. After this, you can transplant them to a permanent place or do this after six months, in spring or autumn.
By dividing the bush, roses of this variety are also propagated on the eve of summer and winter - before the buds open or after all the foliage has fallen from them. They dig up a bush, divide it into several parts so that each has roots and young shoots, and immediately transplant it to a new place. Water until rooting.
Growing and care
Red Intuition roses are placed in an open area where there are no drafts or wind. It is advisable that at noon the bushes are not in direct sunlight, but at least in slight partial shade. The distance between bushes when planting should be at least 0.7 m, between rows - 1 m, so that they have enough space.
Fertilizers and nutrient mixtures are added to the planting holes for Red Intuition bushes, and the plants are not fed in the first year after planting. For the following seasons, the bushes are fertilized before flowering, at the very beginning of summer, and a second time in the fall. You can use any fertilizer, both mineral and organic, but organic is preferable. Water roses so that the soil is moist, but not dry or soggy.The variety is drought-resistant, so in hot weather the bushes can survive without watering for some time, but during periods of prolonged drought, irrigation is necessary.
After watering, the soil needs to be loosened to allow air to penetrate to the roots of the plants.
Red Intuition roses should be pruned in the spring, before buds open. After flowering, cut off all shoots where there were buds. In the fall, loosen the ground near the bushes and lay on it a mulching layer of peat, humus, fallen leaves, straw, hay, etc. Mulch should cover not only the soil, but also the lower parts of the shoots. Additionally, you can wrap the branches with agrofibre. In the spring, when it gets warmer, the shelter needs to be removed.
Pests and diseases
Roses of the "Red Intuition" variety are very resistant to fungal diseases and various pests, but when growing them, preventive spraying should not be neglected. They use standard products - fungicidal and insecticidal preparations to protect against common infections and pests. Spraying is carried out in the spring, and when a disease is detected.
Application in landscape design
Roses of the "Red Intuition" variety can be placed in the garden either as single specimens or in a group. They also look good surrounded by other flowers, both perennial and annual. When creating a composition, roses can be placed in the background, since they are very tall, and other plants can be planted against their background, or in the foreground, so that the original color of the flowers is clearly visible.
With red roses “Red Intuition” you can combine roses of other colors and different flowering periods. Plant them near the house, buildings, along paths and in flower beds. Cut flowers can be placed in water; they do not wither for a long time, and their petals do not fall off.
Conclusion
Rose Red Intuition is still a young but promising variety. It attracts many gardeners with its bright and unusual flower colors, unpretentiousness and disease resistance. Roses can grow in almost any region, with the exception of those with frosty winters, as they do not have increased cold resistance.
