The production of Neva walk-behind tractors has been established since the 90s in the city of St. Petersburg. Now the equipment of this brand has become famous and is in demand in all republics of the post-Soviet space. Among the variety of units presented, the Neva MB 2 walk-behind tractor is very popular, but there are other equally popular models.
Let's get acquainted with the model range
Neva walk-behind tractors are presented in different modifications, differing in configuration and technical characteristics. All models are capable of working with additional attachments, which significantly expands their functionality.
MB-Compact
The MB-Compact model is more of a motor-cultivator than a walk-behind tractor, although it has a traction power of 6 horses. The weight of the unit is about 70 kg. The equipment belongs to the light class and is intended for processing soft ground, haymaking, and other agricultural work. The motor-cultivator is equipped with an American Briggs&Stratton gasoline engine with a capacity of 6 horsepower. The filling tank is designed for three liters of fuel. The cultivator has four forward and two reverse gears. The gearbox is enclosed in an aluminum casing filled with oil.
The motor cultivator is capable of using cutters to process soil up to 16 cm deep, with a working width of 65–100 cm.The compact model is easily transported on a car trailer, does not take up much space during storage, and changing wheels to cutters occurs quickly and without outside help.
MB-1
The configuration of the Neva MB 1 walk-behind tractor differs from the previous model in transmission. The motor is installed exactly the same, with a power of 6 hp. With. But the gearbox here is “Multi-Agro”, thanks to which the traction force on the walk-behind tractor has increased. The unit boasts improved cornering maneuverability due to the ability to separately turn off the torque of the right and left wheels.
The model is capable of processing the soil with cutters to a depth of 20 cm. At the same time, the working width has increased and is 86–127 cm. The weight of the unit is about 75 kg.
MB-2
This Neva walk-behind tractor with an engine from the American manufacturer Briggs & Stratton is characterized by a power of 6.5 hp. With. The gearbox on the unit has an additional range of low gears. It is possible to separately turn off the torque of each wheel.
The walk-behind tractor weighs about 100 kg. The cutters process the soil to a depth of 20 cm. The working width is 86–170 cm. A unit with 6 horses on light soil will pull up to 8 cutters. On clay soil, the number of cutters is reduced to 6 pieces.
MB-23B10
The heavy walk-behind tractor Neva MB 23 is equipped with a Briggs&Stratton gasoline engine. Engine power is 10 liters. With. The unit is designed for heavy loads and is capable of grinding virgin soil with cutters. A walk-behind tractor with 10 horses can easily process even clay soil with 8 cutters. The equipment is equipped with a 5 liter fuel tank. There are 4 forward and two reverse gears.The depth of tillage with cutters is up to 20 cm. The working width is 86–170 cm.
MB-23SD
The owner of the MB-23SD model will be pleased with the traction power of the unit with 5 horses. This equipment is equipped with a diesel engine of the Japanese brand Robin SUBARU DY series with a power of 5.5 liters. s., as well as an oil pump. The walk-behind tractor is designed for continuous processing of large areas with difficult soil. The unit weighs about 115 kg. The depth of tillage with cutters is up to 20 cm, and the working width is 86–168 cm.
There is also a version of Neva Pro. This entire range of walk-behind tractors is equipped with a headlight, and manual engine start is replaced by an electric starter. But reviews from owners say that it’s not worth overpaying for such improvements. A headlight is practically not needed, and the engine starts easily with a manual starter.

Motor cultivators Neva
This lightweight equipment can be called the younger brother of walk-behind tractors. Motor cultivators perform the same processing functions, but only in light soil. The most popular models are MK-80, MK-100 and MK-200. These motor cultivators use a gasoline engine. The MK-80 model is equipped with a Japanese Subaru EY20 engine with a power of 5 hp. With. Model 100 has several modifications:
- MK-100-02 – Briggs & Stratton motor;
- MK-100-04 and MK-100-05 – Honda GC engine;
- MK-100-07 – Robin-Subaru motor;
- MK-100-09 – Honda GX120 engine.
Engine power from 3.5 to 5 liters. With.
The MK-200-N5.0 model is equipped with a Honda GX-160 engine with a power of 5 hp. With.

Conversion of the Neva walk-behind tractor into a multifunctional mini-tractor
Many craftsmen have learned to assemble a mini-tractor from a Neva walk-behind tractor to expand the functionality of the equipment. It should be noted right away that a powerful unit, preferably from 9 liters, is suitable for these purposes. With. Before you start work, you need to draw a kinematic diagram of the future homemade product. It will help you have an idea of what you are going to do. An example of a mini-tractor diagram can be seen in the photo.
The manufacture of a mini-tractor begins with the frame. It can be welded whole or broken. The second option is more difficult, but benefits from maneuverability. Weld a frame from a channel. For reinforcement, use a profile, pipes or corners. The one-piece design is a rectangle with a jumper for rigidity. The fracture consists of two half-frames. They are connected to each other by a movable unit - a hinge.
All frame elements are connected by welding. At complex joints, thick metal gussets are welded. To strengthen the frame, you can additionally use a bolted connection. You can make a solid structure or a fracture according to the proposed drawings.
The motor is placed on the finished frame. If it is located at the front, then the original width of the wheelbase of the walk-behind tractor is left. With a rear-mounted engine, the original wheelbase is extended.
To control you will need a steering column. It is usually removed from a passenger car. You can find hydraulic controls from decommissioned agricultural equipment. It’s easier to handle, especially if the frame on the mini-tractor is broken.
The driver's seat should be comfortable. It is also removed from old equipment.The seat is secured to the frame with an adjustable mechanism that allows you to change the height and angle of inclination.
Wheels on a mini-tractor are often fitted from a passenger car, but this choice is not always appropriate. Here you need to choose the right size. It is optimal when the diameter of the front wheels is 12–14 inches, and the rear wheels are 18 inches. If the wheels are incorrectly selected, the tractor will bury itself in the ground or the unit will be difficult to control.
The brake and clutch pedal are usually connected to the engine block using cables. The gear shift lever must be located near the driver's seat so that it is convenient to reach with your hands. After assembly is completed, the mini-tractor is run in. Only after this the homemade product can be subjected to load.
