How to make homemade lemonade from lemons

Lemonade, as its name suggests, is a drink whose main constituents are lemons. It is believed that it appeared back in the 17th century, and in those days, of course, it was produced without gas. The drink became carbonated much later, almost in the 20th century. Interestingly, it was lemonade that became the first drink for industrial production.And now there are hundreds of recipes with all kinds of fruit and berry additives, sometimes without lemon at all.

But lemons are not only the traditional basis for homemade lemonade, but also the simplest and most common ingredient that can be found at any retail outlet at any time of the year. In addition, natural lemons have many beneficial properties for the body. You just need to use them correctly.

Thus, most imported fruits found on sale are treated with a variety of chemicals and additionally with paraffin for better preservation. Therefore, if the recipe for making homemade lemonade calls for the use of lemon zest, that is, the lemons must be thoroughly washed with a brush under running water and it is also advisable to pour boiling water over them.

Sugar gives the drink its sweetness, but honey is sometimes used to make it even healthier. Sweeteners like fructose or stevia are less commonly used.

It is advisable to use purified or mineral water. Making a carbonated drink at home is as easy as shelling pears - add carbonated mineral water to concentrated fruit syrup. If you have the desire and a special device (siphon) is available, you can prepare a carbonated drink using it.

Often, to create a special aromatic or spicy effect, various herbs are added to homemade lemonade during production: mint, lemon balm, tarragon, rosemary, thyme.

There are two main ways to make lemonade at home:

  • Cold, with shorter infusion of components in cool water;
  • Hot when sugar syrup is first boiled with the necessary additives and then lemon juice is added to it.

In the first case, the drink turns out to be more healthy, but less tasty, for a particular fan. In the second case, you can also prepare a saturated syrup, which is subsequently diluted with any amount of water.

When using fruit or berry additives, they usually replace part of the lemon juice. Moreover, the more acidic the product, the more lemon juice can be replaced with it.
