Peony roses: variety name with photo

Hybrid David Austin roses colloquially called peony-shaped. They were obtained at the end of the last century by an English breeder and today they are popular, including among domestic flower growers. The plants combine the high decorative qualities of the buds and the excellent adaptability of the bushes to adverse weather conditions and resistance to various diseases. Today there are many varieties of peony roses with different flower colors. So, you can find pink, yellow, red, burgundy, white peony roses, which will be a wonderful decoration for any garden. A description of the most famous, popular varieties is given below.

Pink varieties

The pink color only emphasizes the tenderness of the lush, peony-shaped flower. Depending on the variety of roses, they can have different shades of this color, and differ in the size of the bud, the density of the petals, and the doubleness. So, the most interesting varieties of pink peony flowers are:

Constance Spry

This soft pink flower was obtained back in 1961 in England. The rose is a climbing rose, distinguished by especially large (up to 14 cm in diameter), densely double buds, which can be seen in the photo below.

Peony-shaped pink roses do not open completely, keeping many small petals in a closed state. Buds are formed in inflorescences of 4-6 pieces. Roses bloom in early summer and last for quite a long time. Constance Spry flowers exude a bright, rich aroma.

The height of the bush reaches 6 m, width up to 3 m. The bush is spreading, vigorous, with many small thorns. Its foliage is matte, large, and tough. It is recommended to grow peony-shaped flowers of this variety on a support.

Important! 'Constance Spry' can be grown successfully in partial shade.

Miranda

Rose "Miranda" is very similar to the variety described above. It was introduced relatively recently, in 2005 in the UK. The peony-shaped flower is distinguished by a combination of bright and light pink shades. Thus, the outer petals on the bud have a delicate, almost white color, while the inner, closed petals are painted bright pink. Lush flowers of medium size, up to 12 cm in diameter. The Miranda flower does not have a particularly bright aroma.

The bushes of this peony-like variety are compact and relatively low (up to 150 cm). Their width is up to 60 cm. Single flowers are formed on the stems, suitable for cutting and making bouquets. The plant is resistant to partial shade and high humidity.

Important! Compared to the Constance Spry variety, Miranda blooms twice per season, until mid-October, which is its advantage.

The pink roses described above are classic representatives of David Austin's selection. These should also include Variety "Rosalind", the flowers of which are painted in an exceptionally delicate creamy pink color (photo below). In addition, the varieties “Gertrude Jekyll” and “Williams Maurice” have pink petals.

White varieties

There are few white varieties of peony roses. However, they are widely popular among flower growers and florists, as they can not only become decorations in the garden, but also add class to wedding bouquets. Photos and descriptions of the most famous varieties of white peony flowers are given below.

Tranquility

This superb rose is new to the market. It was bred by English breeders in 2012, and with its beauty and sophistication it has already managed to win the hearts of many connoisseurs of beauty. The buds of “Tranquility” are not very large, up to 12 cm in diameter. The closed petals of the flower have a yellowish tint, however, as the bud opens, their color becomes white. Roses exude a pleasant apple aroma and can be used for cutting. You can see the buds of this peony flower in the photo:

The rose is represented by a fairly powerful shrub, the height and width of which reaches 120 cm. This allows you to attach shoots to vertical supports or use the plant as a lush flowerbed decoration. Each stem produces 3-5 buds. There are practically no thorns on the stems. The plant blooms twice per season.

Claire Austin

Another peony rose of stunning beauty. Its buds are cup-shaped, the petals are white with a light cream tint. The diameter of the buds is small: 8-10 cm, however, not one, but 2-3 buds are formed on each stem of the plant, which gives the bush a rich, lush appearance. The flower has a bright, rich aroma.

Shrub variety "Claire Astin" of medium size. Its height does not exceed 150 cm, while the width can reach 100 cm. The variety is resistant to diseases and high humidity. The flowering of this wonderful plant can be observed twice per season.

Speaking of white peony roses, the Alabaster variety should also be mentioned. Its flowers are densely double, with a pleasant aroma. The inflorescences consist of 5-6 buds located on tall stems, which makes this variety suitable for cutting. "Alabaster" shrubs are compact, up to 90 cm high, up to 50 cm wide. The plant blooms twice per season.

A special feature of white varieties is the fact that pure white color is quite difficult to obtain in rose breeding, so most flowers have some additional shade, for example, pink, cream or yellow. For example, the above varieties can hardly be called pure white, however, their beauty is striking in its sophistication.

Yellow varieties

There are many peony roses with different shades of yellow. In this case it is necessary to highlight bushes with the best adaptability to the Russian climate, which makes them especially popular in our country. These yellow peony varieties are:

The Shakespeare shrub is quite massive, up to 2 m high and up to 1.2 m wide. The plant has increased resistance to diseases and rainy weather conditions. The peony red rose blooms for a long time and consists of two stages: in early summer it blooms profusely. The second stage of flowering is less intense, starting from the end of July until the onset of frost.

Benjamin Britten

This variety is distinguished by cup-shaped, tightly closed flowers, which open only slightly throughout the entire flowering period. The petals of the peony flower are double and have a delicate orange tint. Reviews

Anna Vlasova, 34 years old, Obninsk
Rose "Graham Thomas" has been decorating my garden for 5 years. During this time, the bushes grew well and acquired the necessary shape. They bloom all summer, while exuding a sweet, alluring aroma. Everyone who sees this beauty asks for cuttings for propagation. I am always happy to share, because the rose is, without a doubt, wonderful.

Kira Orlova, 29 years old, Rostov-on-Don
My bush of the “Miranda” variety is only 2 years old, but it is already quite large, about 1 m high. The flowers on it form en masse, strewing all the thorny shoots. The rose blooms from June to October, with a short break in August. I consider the only drawback of this variety to be its weak aroma. Otherwise the rose is excellent.
