Hybrid tea rose variety Mondiale (Mondial): photo and description, reviews

Rose Mondial is a relatively winter-hardy plant that can be grown in the middle zone and south (and if covered for the winter - in Siberia and the Urals). The variety is unpretentious, but is demanding on the composition of the soil. Even a novice amateur can grow these beautiful bushes with large white flowers.

History of selection

Rose Mondial is a variety bred in Germany in 1993 by specialists from the company W. Kordes‘ Söhne Rosenschulen. This is one of the oldest nurseries, founded back in 1887. The organization was founded by Wilhelm Kordes.

Quite quickly the variety spread to different countries. It began to be used not only in flower beds, but also in bouquets. As a result, the Mondial rose was awarded the highest rating, including in the Super Premium class. Belonging in this category means high decorative qualities.

Important! The name Mondial (Rosa Mondial) translated from French means “peace”.

The flower symbolizes harmony, reconciliation, mutual understanding between people. It can be given both as a sign of improving old relationships and to commemorate new relationships.

Description of the Mondial rose variety and characteristics

Rosa Mondial is a perennial flowering shrub. The variety belongs to the group of medium-sized hybrid tea roses (height from 40 to 90, less often 100–110 cm).

Main characteristics:

  • average height 60–80 cm;
  • the bush is not spreading, quite compact;
  • flower size when open is 7–11 cm;
  • number of petals: 25–30 (semi-double);
  • color white, cream, greenish;
  • abundant, repeated flowering (two waves), from early June to early September;
  • winter hardiness: zone 5 (withstands frosts down to –29 °C);
  • the best regions for cultivation: south, middle zone, Volga region, Black Earth region;
  • resistance to powdery mildew and black spot, average resistance to rain;
  • use: landscape design, classic bouquets, floral wedding compositions.

The stems are perfectly straight, strong, with a small number of thorns (from 4 to 8 on one shoot). The leaves are large, petiolate, dark green, rich in color. The surface is glossy, embossed - the veins stand out.

The buds are large, reaching 6–7 cm in diameter, and up to 10 cm when fully opened. They consist of 30 petals with graceful wavy edges of white, cream color (transition from lighter shades to greenish in the center). There are also other tones, for example, pink, coral rose Mondial and others. The embossed surface of the petals adds additional volume. Thanks to this, they can be used separately - in the form of a scattering. The aroma is delicate, faint.

The height of the Mondial rose bush can vary from 40 to 110 cm

Attention! The different lengths of the shoots allow the flowers to be used for any purpose.

Roses with a height of 50-80 cm look beautiful in classic bouquets, and with a shorter shoot of 4-50 cm - in floral arrangements for a wedding celebration.

Variety varieties

There are several varieties of Mondial with pink, white and even gray petals. They can also be used in compositions or to decorate a flower garden.

Rosa Pink Mondial

The hybrid tea rose Pink Mondiale was bred in Ecuador. Its large and dense buds are painted pastel pink, and the edges of the petals are light green, which gives them a very beautiful appearance. The bush has an average height of 70–80 cm, quite compact (width up to 50 cm). Prefers to grow on light, fertile soil with good lighting. Flowering, like the snow-white species Mondial, is long-lasting and repeated (at the beginning and end of summer).

Rose Pink Mondial is painted in pastel colors, which gives it tenderness and femininity.

Important! The winter hardiness of this variety of Mondial is low - the flower can withstand frosts only down to –23 °C. Therefore, in most regions of Russia the bush needs additional shelter.

Rose variety Fantasy Mondial

Fantasia Mondiale is a variety of the Mondial rose, which was bred in Germany in 2007. Its double flowers are composed of 50 fairly large petals with a core of salmon and coral shades, then closer to classic pink, and the edges are almost white.

It has good immunity to various diseases, especially black spot and powdery mildew. Winter hardiness is average (up to -23 °C), resistance to rain is low.

The colorful inflorescences of Fantasia Mondiale store well after cutting.

White roses Mondial

The main variety White Rose Mondial is characterized by a classic white-cream and light green (closer to the edges) color. This rose was bred in Ecuador. The bush is medium-sized, blooms in two waves, and is not stored for long after cutting. Directions for use: in garden design, for floral arrangements.

Gray Mondial

Mondial Gray - a rare variety of Mondial roses is painted in an unusual gray color. The flower was bred in Holland. The stems are not very tall - 50–60 cm. It is rarely available from suppliers; it is sold by pre-order.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Flower growers and florists value roses for their decorative properties and other advantages:

  • the flowers are large, pleasantly colored, lush;
  • have a delicate, although weak aroma;
  • used to decorate flower beds, arrange bouquets and floral arrangements;
  • long flowering - from the beginning of summer to the first days of September;
  • the stems are straight, long and strong - the bush does not need garter;
  • to get a bright, original composition, white petals can be painted in any color.

The snow-white petals of the Mondial rose can be enlivened by painting with aerosol paints

Along with the advantages, this variety also has its disadvantages:

  • winter hardiness is usually low. Almost all regions of Russia will need additional shelter for the winter;
  • the plant is demanding on the composition of the soil: the soil should be light and fertile, without heavy moisture;
  • to form a bush you will need to carry out regular pruning;
  • immunity in most varieties is average;
  • flowers lose their decorative properties due to frequent and heavy rains.

Reproduction methods

Since the Mondial rose is a hybrid variety, it can only be grown vegetatively - by cuttings. Harvesting must begin in early or mid-summer - when the shoots are just beginning to form buds or after the first inflorescences begin to fade.

Cuttings are cut only from semi-lignified shoots. For this, it is better to use relatively mature bushes (aged 3 years or older). The instructions are simple:

  1. Cuttings are obtained 7–8 cm long so that the upper part is 0.5 cm above the bud.
  2. Two cuts are made - the upper straight and the lower oblique (45°).
  3. Remove all leaves.
  4. Immerse the lower cut in a solution of a growth stimulator - for example, “Heteroauxin” or aloe juice mixed with water (1:1).
  5. After a few hours, rinse with water and plant immediately in open ground or in a box with a mixture of sand and peat (1:1). If planting in a garden bed, the same substrate must be poured on top of the soil.
  6. Cover the box with film, and the seedlings in the open garden bed with plastic or glass jars.
  7. Moisturize generously daily.
  8. Give urea or ammonium nitrate after 15 days (1 incomplete tablespoon per standard 10 liter bucket of water).
  9. After a month, the cuttings of the Mondial rose will give roots: at this point the jars can be removed. The seedlings are transferred from the box to a permanent place. If they were originally planted in the ground, this is not necessary.
Important! Cuttings can even be obtained from donated roses, if they still have several living buds. The sequence of actions will be the same.

Growing and care

Judging by the reviews and description, caring for the Mondial rose (pictured) is not very difficult.But special attention needs to be paid to the composition of the soil. The flower prefers light, fertile soil. The best option is loose loam with a neutral reaction medium (pH = 7).

Rose Mondial blooms all summer only on fertile soil

If you are not sure, it is better to carry out an additional test using litmus paper, sold in a country store (alkaline soil is acidified with vinegar or citric acid, and acidic soil is alkalized with slaked lime or dolomite flour).

The planting site itself should be:

  • well lit (fully open);
  • not waterlogged (better at higher elevations rather than in lowlands);
  • protected from strong winds (by buildings, trees, bushes).

Planting is carried out in mid-April (south) or closer to the beginning of May (middle zone). In regions with an unfavorable climate (Ural, Siberia) - in mid-May. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Clean and dig up the area.
  2. Garden compost or mature humus is added to the soil in an amount of 2–3 kg per 1 m2. You can also add a tablespoon of superphosphate and wood ash to each well. Thanks to this, the Mondial rose buds will produce lush flowers.
  3. Form several holes of such depth that the rose roots fit freely in them, and there is still 10–15 cm of space left.
  4. Root the seedling, fill it with soil, and lightly compact it. In this case, the root collar should remain close to the surface - the depth level is about 1 cm.
  5. Water generously with a bucket of settled water and mulch with humus, peat, straw or other materials.
Important! The interval between neighboring roses is at least 60 cm. In this case, the planting will be dense, this option is suitable for a hedge.

After planting, you need to care for the Mondial rose as follows:

  1. Water every week, in case of drought - 2 times more often, in case of heavy rains - without additional moisture.
  2. Loosen the soil regularly (one day after each watering).
  3. Fertilizers for roses of the Mondial variety are applied 3 times per season: in April, nitrogen compounds. During the formation of buds, and then for re-blooming (August) - superphosphate and potassium salt. The break between feedings is at least two weeks.
  4. Shelter for the winter - after the temperature drops to 0 °C. The above-ground part is completely cut off, leaving shoots at least 15–20 cm high. The Mondial rose bush is hilled up, mulched with peat or sprinkled with leaves and soil, and laid with spruce branches on top. The total height of the protective layer is at least 20 cm.
  5. Pruning at least 2 times a year: in spring - all branches, leaving shoots no more than 15 cm (2-3 buds in height). In the fall, remove all faded flower stalks and shoots that never produced inflorescences.

The classic covering material for the Mondial rose is spruce spruce branches.

Pests and diseases

The immunity of the Mondial rose depends on the specific variety - for some it is good, for others it is average. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out mandatory preventive treatment of bushes in May with any fungicide:

  • "Fitosporin";
  • "Skor";
  • "Tattu";
  • "Topaz";
  • "Profit";
  • "Maksim".

In summer, plants can be attacked by aphids and other pests. They can be controlled with insecticides:

  • "Fitoverm";
  • "Decis";
  • "Biotlin";
  • "Aktara";
  • "Match";
  • "Vertimek".
Important! The treatment of the Mondial rose is carried out in the evening, in calm and dry weather.

Application in landscape design

Rosa Mondial is a lush bush with beautiful white flowers. This is a self-sufficient plant that is often used in single plantings. It is also planted in rose gardens, combined with representatives of other varieties:

  1. The central accent of the site.
  2. Flower arrangement with rose Mondial.

Conclusion

Rosa Mondial produces not only white, but also pink, coral and even gray flowers. This is a beautiful plant that does not require special care. Great for making bouquets and for garden decoration.

Reviews with photos about rose Mondial

Galina Nikolaevna, 54 years old, Korolev
I have 2 Mondial rose bushes on my property, all of them have taken root wonderfully. They showed good growth in 2 years - they have already grown more than a meter. Flowering really goes on continuously. They write that my immunity is not strong, but I don’t get sick from anything. Rose is wonderful in every way. I use it for sale, this is the kind of bouquets I get.

For lovers of delicate white flowers, the Mondial rose is the most suitable option. It loves the sun very much, it grows in the very center of mine. The flowers are beautiful, they don’t smell much, but they decorate the garden all summer. The last buds open at the beginning of September, so we often give them to teachers.
