Brick BBQ in the gazebo

An integral part of summer holidays is cooking food over an open fire. Most often, people take a portable metal barbecue into nature, make a fire and grill shish kebab. However, in bad weather and with the onset of cold weather, it is uncomfortable to relax in the open air. A gazebo will be the solution to the problem, but using a metal barbecue will be inconvenient. The main obstacle is the smoke from the fire. A brick barbecue erected in a gazebo, the smoke from which will go far beyond the premises, will help you set up a resting place with all the amenities.

Why is a brick grill better than a metal grill?

You can install a barbecue in a built gazebo not only from brick. If you have a welding machine, skills and material, the structure can be welded from metal. But will a steel barbecue be better than a brick structure?

Metal barbecues are quite simple to make, even if there is a chimney. It is enough to weld the cut steel fragments and the structure is ready. Let's start looking for the disadvantages of such a barbecue with its functionality.Firstly, metal tends to burn out and become deformed when heated. The service life of a metal barbecue is short, and over time its deformed body will begin to spoil the interior of the gazebo. Secondly, steel heats up quickly and releases heat unevenly. The meat in different areas of the grill begins to burn, and in some places it is generally raw.

The ideal option is stoves for gazebos made of brick, where you can set up a barbecue, barbecue and other devices for preparing food. The brick does not have the property of burning out or deforming; it gradually gains heat, after which it evenly releases it to the product being prepared. The construction of a brick oven or barbecue is more complex than that of a metal structure, but its service life is much longer. In terms of aesthetics, brickwork also wins. If it was not possible to obtain facing bricks, the stove can be decorated with decorative stone.

Which brick structure will he choose?

You can build a structure inside a brick gazebo with your own hands for cooking. Many people immediately rush to look for a drawing on the Internet, where they encounter another problem. It turns out that there are many varieties of brick barbecues. So, where should we stop? It should be noted right away that only a structure with a chimney will fit into the gazebo, and this is a real stove. But now we’ll figure out what can be organized in it.

Brazier

The traditional solution to constructing a barbecue oven is to install a brick grill inside the gazebo. The structure of such a stove consists of one brazier, above which a chimney rises. A niche is usually set up under the brazier - woodcutter. The meat is cooked on the grill, threaded onto skewers. Usually such a stove is placed at the far wall of the gazebo.

To build a brick grill, you don’t need a complex drawing. It is even possible to weld a metal brazier in the shape of a box, which is simply lined with brick in the gazebo. If desired, the design of the grill can be complicated. An additional niche is built between the brazier and the chimney. It must be tightly closed so that smoke does not get inside the gazebo. This niche makes an excellent smokehouse. Now, in addition to barbecue, there will also be smoked products on the table.

B-B-Q

Lately, barbecuing has become fashionable. The principle of cooking food remains unchanged: inside the brazier there are coals, and the product is fried above them. Only if in the case of a barbecue the meat is skewered, then in a barbecue it lies on top of the grate. You can install a brick barbecue in a gazebo using the same principle as a barbecue. The design and design are the same, only protrusions are provided above the fryer for laying the grate. They can be made of brick or pieces of reinforcement can be embedded in the masonry. The grate is made removable, then the barbecue can be easily converted to a grill.

Advice! Barbecue ovens with attached countertops and a sink for washing dishes are convenient to use.

Portable barbecues for gazebos, which can be installed anywhere, even in the center, are very popular. The only condition for using a mobile barbecue in a gazebo is to install a hood above it.

Russian stove

The best option for a gazebo is a brick stove, which is equipped with various devices to help prepare food. The drawing of a Russian stove is complex, and a person without experience cannot master the construction itself. Here you will need a stove maker.

The Russian stove is equipped with a hob, a cauldron is installed for cooking pilaf, and a niche for a smokehouse is built above the grill. The barbecue itself has protrusions for the barbecue grill. The stove must be built with a spacious woodshed for storing logs.

Attention! All Russian stove projects on the Internet are for informational purposes only. During construction, the master independently makes individual calculations and makes his own adjustments.

What else can be built from brick in a gazebo?

A cauldron is considered a good cooking device in a gazebo. Under its installation, a mini-oven with a chimney is laid out of brick. A hole is cut out on the hob into which the cauldron is placed. The photo shows how its lower part is immersed in the firebox.

Installing a fireplace in the stove is important for a glass gazebo. You can relax in such a room even in winter, no matter the frost.

The Russian stove will be endowed with all the functions if a grill is also installed in it. That is, a special chamber is set up, inside which the fire roasts the meat from all sides. The photo shows a whole complex of multifunctional ovens.

Barbecue projects

For your information, we propose to consider the projects of two barbecues. Each drawing shows dimensions for informational purposes only. The dimensions of brick barbecues are individually calculated by an experienced stove maker for a specific gazebo.

The first project in the photo is for a rectangular barbecue, which can be installed inside the gazebo against the far wall.

The next photo shows a corner brazier made of brick. The construction principle is the same, only the structure can be placed in the corner of the gazebo.

Arranging a foundation for a brick barbecue or oven

A brick barbecue, and even more so a Russian stove, is a very heavy structure that requires the construction of a reliable foundation. How to make a concrete base yourself? Yes, very simple. It is possible to pour a strip foundation around the perimeter of the future furnace, but in heaving soil conditions this is not the best option. To prevent the foundation from breaking, it will have to be buried below the freezing level of the soil.

The ideal option is concreting a monolithic slab. To do this, a recess of up to 500 mm is dug according to the dimensions of the barbecue, the bottom is covered with a layer of sand and crushed stone 200 mm thick and a reinforcing mesh is laid.

Attention! The reinforcement is placed precisely at the bottom of the foundation, and not in the middle or at the bottom of it. Otherwise, the strength of the base is reduced, and under the weight of the brick grill it will bend or crack.

Formwork is installed around the pit. The sides must protrude at least 100 mm above ground level. The foundation is poured with concrete and crushed stone. No work is carried out on the base until the cement has completely hardened.

Construction of a Russian stove

Now we will look at how to build a Russian stove out of brick in a gazebo. The instructions are provided for informational purposes only, and if you perform the work yourself, it is advisable to consult a specialist.

Preparatory work

So, the concrete foundation for the stove inside the gazebo has frozen, it’s time to start preparing for stone work. To lay out a barbecue or Russian stove, you will need red and refractory bricks. The first one will go on the walls, and the firebox will be laid out of refractory bricks. It should be noted right away that silicate and hollow bricks are not suitable for furnace work.

Attention! To prevent the brick from drawing water from the mortar, it is soaked in water overnight, but not completely immersed, but simply sprinkled generously.

The top of the concrete foundation is covered with a sheet of roofing material for waterproofing. The first row of bricks is laid out dry without mortar. It forms the outline of the ordering oven. At this stage, the masonry is adjusted in such a way as to avoid cutting the bricks during further construction.

To get reliable brickwork, you need to properly prepare the mortar. Sometimes the walls of a stove or barbecue are laid out on cement mortar, and the firebox itself is laid out on clay. You can do this, although many stove makers are more inclined to use only clay mortar. There is such a thing as clay fat content. From here the proportions of the solution are determined, and this is done individually. They can be 1:1 or 1:2. The fatter the clay, the more sand is added.

Attention! To prepare the solution, clay is soaked for two days to give it plasticity.

The refractory brick inside the firebox is laid on another mortar of refractory clay. This dry mixture can be bought in a store, and at home you just need to dilute it with water. It is advisable to prepare another solution for the chimney. Condensation will destroy the clay masonry, so the best option would be a solution of three parts sand and one part lime paste. For strength, it is allowed to add one part of cement.

The laying out of the first and subsequent rows begins from the corner. It is important to maintain the level of the brickwork so that the stove or grill does not warp. At all corners, wire is embedded into the masonry of each row. It will add strength to the structure.

Furnace laying

The photo shows an example of a brick oven laying scheme. In this project, on one side there is a smokehouse with a barbecue on top, and above them a chimney. There is an ash pan under the grill firebox. On the other side of the stove there is a niche for storing firewood. It is laid out from 6 rows of bricks. On the 8th row, a ledge is made and a steel sheet is laid to cover the firewood box from above.

The bottom of the ash pit begins to be equipped from the second row of brickwork. Here, too, it is better to use a steel sheet. The height of the ash chamber is 3 bricks. The ash pit opening is closed with a cast iron door. On the 6th row above the ash pit, grates are laid and the firebox is driven out of 4 rows. The inside is lined with refractory bricks.

If you count from the very bottom of the stove, then the 11th row of brickwork is made with a protrusion in the middle. A cast iron hob is placed on top, which additionally forms the bottom of the smokehouse. Above are the rows of the smoking chamber itself, and a door is installed in its opening.

On the other side of the furnace, two rows of red and one row of refractory bricks are laid on a metal sheet. A barbecue is formed in this area. Further laying of the stove goes up to the 16th row, where they begin to form an arch. It ends on the 19th row, forming the upper part of the grill chamber.

Next, the masonry is driven out to row 22, where a steel sheet with windows for smoke is placed above the smokehouse. They will allow for cold and hot smoking. Starting from row 23, the top of the oven is made. Further cladding proceeds with the brick being shifted inward by one quarter. The top of the stove consists of 10 rows, after which a smooth chimney is laid out.
