The Krasa Severa grapes were obtained by domestic scientists by cross-pollination of the Taifri pink and Zarya Severa varieties. An alternative name for the variety is Olga. According to the variety description and photo, Krasa Severa grapes are distinguished by early ripening and good taste. The variety is used both fresh and for winemaking.

Planting grapes

The place for growing grapes must meet certain conditions: light, fertility and soil moisture. The Krasa Severa variety is planted in prepared planting holes. Be sure to choose high-quality planting material. When planting, fertilizers are added to the soil.

Preparatory stage

Planting work is carried out in October. It is allowed to plant later, 10 days before frost. Autumn planting is more preferable than spring planting, as it promotes the formation of the root system of grapes.

For planting crops, choose a lighted area that is not subject to wind loads. The final taste of the berries and yield depend on the presence of natural light.

Grapes are not planted in lowlands where moisture accumulates. When planting on slopes, choose its central part. It is best to choose a site in the south, west or southwest. The distance to fruit trees and bushes is more than 5 m.

Advice! For planting, choose high-quality seedlings of the Krasa Severa variety.

Annual shoots are 50 cm high and 7 cm thick. The optimal number of roots is more than 3. The plant must have mature buds, the root system is powerful and not overdried.

Work order

A planting hole measuring 80-90 cm is prepared for the grapes. Then it is left for 3-4 weeks for the soil to settle.

Sequence of planting grapes:

  1. A drainage layer of crushed stone or crushed brick 10 cm thick is placed at the bottom of the pit.
  2. A 5 cm plastic pipe is installed vertically in the hole. 20 cm of pipe should remain above the ground surface.
  3. Fertile soil is poured on top.
  4. 0.2 kg of potassium salt and superphosphate are added to the planting hole.
  5. Fertilizers need to be covered with soil and then reapplied.
  6. Soil is poured on top and watered abundantly.
  7. When the ground settles, they begin to plant grapes. The roots of the plant are kept in clean water for a day, after which the shoot is cut off, leaving 4 eyes. The roots of the plant are shortened slightly.
  8. A mound of earth is poured into the hole and grapes are placed on top.
  9. The roots are covered with soil, which is well compacted.
  10. The grapes are watered generously with warm water.

In order for the seedling to take root faster, the soil under it is covered with film. Holes are left under the plant and the watering pipe. The top of the plant is covered with a 5-liter plastic bottle with the neck cut off.

Variety care

Krasa Severa grapes produce high yields with constant care. Plants are cared for by watering and fertilizing. In the fall, the bushes are pruned and prepared for winter. To protect against diseases, special means are used.

Watering

After planting, the grapes require regular watering. The plants form a hole with a diameter of 30 cm around the trunk. Each bush requires 5 liters of water weekly. After a month, the intensity of watering is reduced. It is enough to water the plants twice a month. In August, the introduction of moisture is completely stopped.

Adult bushes are watered several times per season:

  • after the snow melts and the shelter is removed;
  • a week before the buds open;
  • after flowering;
  • a week before sheltering for the winter.

Young grapes are watered through a pipe dug in when planting the crop. The moisture should settle and warm up in the sun.

When the berries begin to ripen, the introduction of moisture is completely stopped until the onset of autumn. Pre-winter watering helps the grapes to better withstand the winter.

Top dressing

The use of fertilizers has a positive effect on crop development.When adding nutrients to the planting hole, feeding the grapes begins in the fourth year.

Important! In spring, plants are fed with fertilizers containing nitrogen. From natural remedies, use mullein solution in a ratio of 1:15.

After removing the cover, Krasa Severa grapes are watered with a solution consisting of 35 g of superphosphate, 25 g of potassium sulfate and 40 g of ammonium nitrate. Substances are applied in dry form directly into the soil. In summer, nitrogen fertilizers are removed from fertilizing so as not to cause excessive growth of green mass.

A week before the start of flowering, the plantings are treated with slurry with the addition of potassium and phosphorus fertilizers in the amount of 20 g of each. When the berries ripen, the plants are fed only with phosphorus and potassium.

Krasa Severa grapes respond positively to foliar treatments. They are carried out using complex fertilizers Aquarin or Kemira. Plants are sprayed leaf by leaf in cloudy weather or in the evening.

Trimming and tying

As the grapes grow, they are tied to supports. It is best to install several supports and stretch a wire between them. The shoots are secured in a horizontal position at an angle, vertically, in an arc or in a ring.

According to the description of the variety, photos and reviews, proper pruning of Krasa Severa grapes ensures high yields. The procedure is carried out in the fall after harvesting.

When pruning, you need to leave from 5 to 8 eyes. Long pruning is allowed when 10-12 eyes remain on the shoot.

Important! From 40 to 45 eyes are left per bush of the Krasa Severa variety.

In the spring, if the grapes are damaged, the vine takes a long time to recover, which negatively affects fruiting. In early spring, it is allowed to remove broken and frozen shoots.In summer, it is enough to pinch the vine, remove excess shoots and leaves covering the bunches of berries.

Shelter for the winter

In autumn, grapes are fed wood ash and prepare the plantings for winter. In regions with harsh winters, the vine is removed from its support and laid on the ground.

The grapes are hilled up and covered with spruce branches. A frame of metal arcs is built on top, to which agrofibre is attached. In winter, additional snow is thrown on the bushes.

Protection from diseases

The Krasa Severa variety has average resistance to fruit cracking and gray rot. When gray rot spreads, the green parts of the grapes become covered with plaque. The disease develops in damp weather.

The Krasa variety is susceptible to oidium and mildew. Oidium appears as a powdery coating on grapes. Gradually, the leaves of the plant become curly and the berries dry out.

Mildew appears as oily spots that appear on the leaves. With high humidity, plaque forms on the back of the leaves. The affected parts of the plant turn yellow and die.

To protect the vineyard from diseases, pruning is carried out in a timely manner, stepsons are removed, and fertilizers with phosphorus and potassium are applied. Plants are treated with Ridomil, Antrakol, Horus, and copper oxychloride. The procedures are carried out in early spring before flowering begins.

Reviews from gardeners

Maria, 54 years old, Barnaul
We have been growing Krasa Severa grapes for more than 10 years. The berries ripen on average in 120 days. According to the variety description and photo, the clusters are quite large, reaching 0.5 kg. The shoots grow quickly and the yield is high. The taste is quite simple. The variety is not resistant to gray rot. Wasps love sweet berries, so you need to additionally protect the plantings from pests.This variety is suitable only for cold regions where it is difficult to grow most grape varieties. In warm climates, it is better to pay attention to other varieties.
