Arch grapes: variety description, photos, reviews

Grapes have been grown since ancient times. This plant is famous not only for its taste, but also for its ability to create decorative structures in the garden. Grape fruits are an excellent raw material for compotes, juices, wine, not to mention the consumption of fresh berries. Grapes are widely used in cosmetology and medicine.

As a rule, the place for the vine in the garden is chosen next to the wall of the house or around the gazebos. You can use grapes to divide the territory into zones by making arches and pergolas. Arched grapes (look at the photo) are just such a variety with which you can create various architectural forms to decorate the garden.

A little history

The Arochny variety is a hybrid of Russian selection. The authors are scientists from the Russian VNIIViV named after. ME AND. Potapenko. In some sources, Arched has other names: III-14-1-1, Pink Friendship or Tsvetnoy. According to known information, the Intervitis Magaracha grape variety and the white-berry Druzhba grape variety were chosen for crossing.

Botanical properties

The vine of the Arch grape variety is vigorous and, with good care, reaches three meters. The variety is early ripening, frost-resistant. The grapes propagate well from cuttings.Having planted a vine, you can get the first harvest in the second year.

Not every gardener will risk making new plantings without knowing the details about the plant. Therefore, we will present to our readers a description with a photo of the Arochny grape variety. In this photo the plant is three years old.

Description of fruits

  1. Arochny's clusters are large, with medium-sized berries, their weight reaches 400-600 grams. They have a standard cylindrical-conical shape. The grapes are almost the same size; there are no peas on dense clusters.
  2. The berries measure 18x25 mm and weigh about 6 grams. The shape is oval-nipple. The color of the berries is interesting, flowing from pink to red. Especially bright, as gardeners write in reviews, are the fruits of the Arochny grape variety, growing on the sunny side.
  3. The pulp is juicy, tasty and aromatic. Tasters give the Arochny variety 7.7 out of 10 points.
  4. But not everyone likes the thick skin and large number of seeds of this grape variety.
  5. The berries contain enough sugar – 16-18%, acid – about 5 g/l.

Beneficial features

The description of the variety would not be complete if we did not talk about the beneficial properties of the grapes. Berries are rich in chlorine and sodium, sulfur and zinc, iodine and chromium, boron. In addition, they contain glucose, fructose, ascorbic acid and pectin.

By consuming the Arochny grape variety, you can:

  • strengthen the immune system and normalize blood pressure;
  • get rid of pain symptoms in the joints;
  • forget about insomnia.

Doctors recommend fresh grape juice for many diseases.

Warning! But there are also contraindications to eating Arochny berries: the presence of cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes mellitus, colitis or obesity (grapes increase appetite).

In the photo: Arochny will soon be in time.

Technical specifications

And now - the characteristic features of the Arochny variety:

  1. Due to their density, the berries can remain on the bushes for a long time and do not lose their taste and aromatic qualities. Cut bunches of grapes can be transported over long distances without losing their shape and the berries do not leak.
  2. The vine is frost-resistant and can withstand -25 degrees. Even if some of the buds on the vine freeze in winter, fruiting remains in the duplicate buds. That is why the Arochny variety is recommended for cultivation in the northern regions.
  3. The harvest is stable from year to year, high.
  4. The Arochny variety vine is resistant to many grape diseases.
  5. The fruit makes excellent wine.
Important! Arched is resistant to mildew and oidium, but preventive measures are still necessary.

Features of cultivation

Grapes are a heat-loving plant, but increasingly the vine is grown in more severe climatic conditions. And judging by the reviews, it is quite successful. To prevent the vineyards from dying, you need to know how to plant them correctly, choose the soil, and care for them.

Preparing the pit

Arch grape variety requires sandy and sandy loam soils when planting. The root system of grapes goes to great depths, so when choosing a location you need to take into account the height of the groundwater to the horizon. The proximity of water has a detrimental effect on the development of the grapevine. The Arch variety feels good on the sunny side, namely in the southwest or southeast.

Advice! The pit for planting Arch grapes must be prepared in advance, in the fall. This is necessary to saturate the soil with oxygen and destroy most pests and disease spores that are unable to survive at low temperatures.

The size of the seat specifically for Arched Grapes is one meter by one meter.

A few days before planting the grapes, drainage is placed in the hole. You can use pieces of brick, expanded clay or crushed stone. Pour a nutrient mixture on top: sand, peat and humus in equal quantities.

Sprinkle each layer with mineral fertilizers, such as:

  • potassium superphosphate – 100-200 grams;
  • ammonium nitrate - about 30 grams;
  • potassium salt – 100 grams.
Attention! Potassium salt can be replaced with wood ash.

Fertilizers should not be poured onto the last layer of soil, otherwise burns will form on the root system. Fill the hole with warm water up to two buckets and let the soil settle a little.

Planting a vine

A grape seedling of the Arochny variety can have an open or closed root system. Preparation and planting will vary slightly:

  1. A vine with an open root system is soaked for two hours to awaken the roots and saturate them with moisture. It is best to carry out this procedure in a heteroauxin solution.
  2. In the central part of the pit, a hill of soil about 15 cm high is made, on which a grape bush “sits”, like on a chair. The roots are carefully straightened. Make sure the roots are pointing straight down!
  3. It is easier to plant Arochny grape seedlings with a closed root system; you just need to make a depression of the required size in the center of the hole.
  4. After planting, the plants are watered abundantly. Then mulching is done to retain moisture.
  5. Subsequent watering of the grapes is carried out weekly, pouring 10 to 20 liters of water under the bush. This procedure stops in August so that the plant prepares for winter.

Shaping and pruning vines

One of the characteristics of the Arochny grape variety is its strong growth. Therefore, it needs to be formed correctly. Otherwise, the branches will be very thick and you won’t have to wait for the harvest.

The vine planted in the first year is not touched; the first pruning is planned for next spring. Two lashes are left on the plant, which are cut differently:

  • the first is the fruiting link, from 5 to 8 buds are left on it;
  • the second branch is called a replacement knot. It is cut into two buds.

In the third spring, the Arochny variety grapevine is already pruned with a replacement knot. The work is carried out by analogy: on one branch there are 5-8 buds, and on the other a replacement knot with two buds is again formed. The next year, a fruiting branch will form on it again.

Important! The first bunches are harvested from Arch grapes on a two-year-old vine, so formation must be carried out annually.

Pruning grapes in the fall is also necessary: after collecting the clusters, the vine is cut to a stump. If the vine is formed incorrectly and the old branches are not cut out, the berries become small and tasteless.

Wintering

As already mentioned, the Arochny grapevine is frost-resistant. But in the first years of life, more often in the southern regions, not to mention in areas of risky farming, the vine needs to be covered for the winter.

It is carefully removed from the supports and laid on the ground. You can cover it with agrospan or spunbond. These covering materials not only allow oxygen to reach the grape bushes, but also create favorable conditions for wintering.

In northern latitudes, the plant requires careful shelter. Spruce branches are thrown on top and sprinkled with soil.

Attention! Additional shelter is especially important during winters with little snow.

Reviews from gardeners

Matvey, 41 years old, Novorossiysk
There are several varieties of grapes in my garden. I have been growing arch grapes for several years. It was planted next to the gazebo. The vine climbs right over it. When the clusters begin to ripen, the arbor “paints” different colors: on the southern side the berries are already pink-red, and on the northern side they are yellowish-green and pink. We use them fresh; the clusters hang on the vine for a long time without losing their taste. We save ourselves from wasps and sparrows by covering the berries with gauze.
Alexander, 64 years old, Krasnoyarsk
He took up viticulture after retiring. Three years ago I was on vacation in the south, my friends gave me a grape cutting and said it was the Arochny variety. Immediately upon arrival, I planted it on the site. The vine survived the winter well because I covered it thoroughly. Moreover, I planted it in a trench, and now I put the vines in it in the fall. I pile boards on top, lay down spunbond and cover with earth. Last year the first bunches ripened. They are exactly the same as in the description and in the pictures, I compared them specifically. I also liked the taste and aroma.
Veronica, 45 years old, Mytishchi
When I planted the first grape cuttings, the neighbors laughed at me and said that they wouldn’t ripen. I have been working with these plants for 10 years now. I have several Arched bushes. Excellent grapes. Although there are many problems with growing. This includes pest control, disease control, and, most importantly, shelter from winter frosts. But it’s nothing when you see the result in reality. Don’t be afraid to grow grapes; your own are much tastier than what they sell in the store.
