Vinograd Victor

Victor grapes were bred by amateur winegrower V.N. Krainov. Over the past twenty years, it has rightfully been recognized as one of the best due to its excellent taste, high yield and ease of cultivation.

Features of selection

Victor grapes were developed as a result of many years of selection work. For crossing, Krainov used the varieties “Kishmish radiant” and “Talisman”. This variety has such characteristics as high frost resistance, abundant harvest, resistance to diseases and pests. Over the past period, gardeners have noted a high survival rate of seedlings, rapid growth and ease of care.

This variety was developed relatively recently - in 2000-2002. In such a short period, it was not possible to compile a complete description of the Victor grapes, all of its advantages and disadvantages. But over the years it has deservedly received the title of “premium grape”.

Features of the hybrid

A special feature of this hybrid is its early maturity. It takes 100-110 days from the beginning of the vegetative process until the fruits ripen. Winegrowers begin harvesting in early August.

Victor has a massive, well-developed vine with a large number of healthy buds.Flowers combine the quality of both sexes, female and male. For this reason, it self-pollinates easily.

Victor grapes begin to bloom in early June. The active growth of grape bunches increases after systematic pruning of the leaves.

This grape variety has excellent winter hardiness. Without shelter, it tolerates winter frosts well. Thanks to this important quality, it is widely zoned. Seedlings quickly adapt to changing climatic conditions. The grapes take root well and are characterized by high fertility both in the southern regions with a hot climate and in the harsh conditions of the central regions with sudden changes in temperature.

Interesting! Grapes, which have a reddish tint, have long been known for their medicinal properties. Victor is also reddish-purple in color.

Description of grape fruits

Victor grapes are distinguished by large, large clusters that have a conical shape. The average weight of one bunch is from 500 g to 1 kg. If all rules of agricultural technology are followed and proper care is taken, the weight of the bunch can reach 1,800-2,000 grams. From one grape bush you can harvest up to 6-7 kg of crop.

It differs from other varieties in the absence of peas. The fruits are very large, the average grape weight is 15-18 grams. The berries are oval in shape, with a slightly pointed end. Externally, the fruits are similar to the lady's finger variety.

The size of the berries varies within the following limits: from 2x3.4 cm to 2.6x4.2 cm. Experienced gardeners often note higher figures - with excellent care, the length of the grape can reach 6 cm and weight up to 20 grams.

Grapes have few seeds - no more than 1-2 pcs.

The color of the grapes depends on how long they are exposed to the sun during the day, ranging from deep light pink to dark reddish purple. The ripening phase also affects the color of the berries. As you can see in the photo, the Victor grapes ripen evenly.

The taste of the berries is distinguished by its nobility and harmony. Fleshy-rich pulp and thin peel, practically unnoticeable when eaten, increase the value of this variety.

Grapes of this variety ideal for the production of raisins.

Sugar content in berries is 17%, acid content is no more than 8 g/l.

In addition to excellent taste, the Victor grape variety has such positive qualities as an attractive appearance and excellent preservation of its presentation during transportation.

Interesting! The first grape leaf cutter was an ordinary... donkey. The winegrowers noticed that the bushes eaten by the animal produced a bountiful harvest.

Grape care

This hybrid variety does not require any special approach or attention. In order to annually obtain a large amount of high-quality harvest, it is necessary to follow the basic rules of agricultural technology:

  • Timely and abundant watering. Overmoistening and overdrying of the soil are equally harmful to Victor grapes and immediately affect the appearance and taste of the berries.
  • To maintain soil moisture under the bushes, it is recommended to mulch.
  • Must be removed promptly weeds and loosen the soil under the grape bushes.
  • Winegrowers advise carrying out mandatory catarrhization in the spring.

Even novice gardeners can follow these rules.

Winter hardiness of Krainova grapes

Victor grapes have excellent frost resistance. Without shelter, it can withstand frosts down to -22˚С - 24˚С.In the southern regions there is no need to cover the grapevine. But in the central and northern regions, it is better to take care of preserving the bushes and covering them in accordance with generally accepted rules for caring for grapes.

Advantages of a hybrid

Despite its “young” age - the grape variety was bred about seventeen years ago - many winegrowers noted a considerable number of advantages of Victor compared to other varieties.

  • Retains its appearance for a relatively long time, which makes it invaluable during transportation;
  • Excellent taste of berries;
  • Disexual, that is, self-pollinates;
  • High yield;
  • If you follow the rules of care, the grapes will not “spear”;
  • Early ripening;
  • Ease of landing. Cuttings are accepted very quickly. The percentage of rooted chibouks is more than 95%;
  • Quickly adapts to climate change;
  • The vine quickly gains green mass, ripens by 2/3 of its length;
  • Not picky about soil composition;
  • Easy to care for;
  • High frost resistance;
  • Raisins from this grape have a long shelf life and excellent taste. The berries are also great for making compotes;
  • High resistance to diseases: mildew, oidium and gray mold, as well as many fungal diseases. However, once every 3-4 years it needs to be treated with antifungal agents for prevention.
Interesting! The high content of glucose and fructose in berries promotes active brain function.

Disadvantages of the variety

In addition to a lot of advantages, this variety also has several disadvantages.

  • High sugar content attracts wasps. As soon as the bunches begin to actively ripen, these insects literally attack the berries. It is very difficult to fight their invasion. Professionals advise setting traps for wasps.Water mixed with a large amount of sugar is poured into a glass. Poison is added to the syrup. This is the only way to fight during the maturation period.
  • Since Victor grapes bloom very early - in early June - this is its advantage, but at the same time also its disadvantage. Late spring frosts occur in late spring and early summer. The grapes, which are just beginning to bloom, may freeze. In this case, there is no need to wait for the harvest.

Grape propagation

Thanks to its rapid rooting and high resistance, Victor grapes reproduce in four ways:

  • Saplings;
  • Grafting cuttings;
  • By layering;
  • Bones.

With any method, the grapes take root well, maintaining varietal qualities, except for grafting. In this case, a hybrid may result that combines the qualities of the mother bush and Victor grapes. When propagating by seeds, you should be patient - it will take a lot of time until the first clusters appear on the bushes.

The video describes the main characteristics of the Victor variety:

Where is it preferable to plant Crainova grapes?

Victor grows well and produces abundant harvests in sunny places. It is highly undesirable to plant grapes near fences or near the house; proximity to other trees and shrubs should also be avoided. The vine grows quickly.

Grapes of this variety do not like drafts. In particularly hot and dry weather, abundant watering is required.

Victor grows on any soil, as it is undemanding to the composition of the soil. But the more fertile the land, the higher the yield. For gardeners interested in obtaining a large amount of harvest, it is useful to know that the greatest fertility is observed when growing grapes on black soil.

Interesting! “Ampelotherapy” is a new method of treatment with grapes, in which almost all parts of the plant are used to prepare medicinal tinctures.

Conclusion

According to the description of the Victor variety compiled by the author and many amateur gardeners, it can be noted that it is excellent for both cultivation on a personal plot and for cultivation on an industrial scale.

I planted Victor grapes four years ago. The vine has grown and strengthened beautifully. In the first year of fruiting, I collected 3 kg 700 g from it. This year the yield is much higher. I'm courting behind the bushes according to all the rules. Maybe that’s why the largest bunch weighed 1 kg 400 g. I think that this is not the limit.

I planted seedlings the year before last. The first fruits appeared this summer. The clusters, of course, are large, you can’t say anything. But the berries on them look like they are shriveled. But lately we haven’t had much rain, and we watered it once a week. Maybe it needed more watering. I blame it on insufficient watering.

    1. Good afternoon
      The absence of inflorescences on grape seedlings in the first two years after planting is the norm. There is no need to do anything yet.
      If you are going to replant grapes to a permanent place, it is best to do this in the fall.Next spring the inflorescences will definitely delight you.

  3. Excellent grape variety.
    The taste is extraordinary.
    I ate it and want more.
    The next year, after planting, it produced a harvest of 7 kg.
    Responsive to fertilizers.
    I treated it only 2 times per season (nitrafen and Bordeaux mixture).
    I am expecting a full harvest this year at the level of 15-20 kg.
