Growing tomatoes is a rather complicated process, so many people want to make it easier. Some summer residents prefer to purchase ready-made seedlings for planting, while others choose early varieties. Low growing tomatoes in some cases you may not pinch and don't tie it up. Growing tomatoes
The process of pinching controls the growth of the plant. As a rule, tomatoes grow strongly if they have enough food and sun.
Stepson is a minor escape. As a rule, they do not appear until the flowering process. To find the secondary stem, you need to look closely at the plant. The stepson grows immediately under the first flower cluster. It should be removed so that the plant produces as many fruits as possible.
If this is not done, the plant will become very overgrown, devoting a large amount of energy specifically to the growth of shoots, and not to flowering and fruit formation. For tall tomato varieties this is a real problem.
The stepsons are removed when they are small, only then the plant will not hurt after this procedure.To avoid creating a risk of infection, it is best to remove shoots on a warm, sunny day. This way, the wounds will dry out faster. It should be noted that this process requires both strength and time from the gardener. That is why early low growing tomatoes, which do not require pinching. Note that all varieties of tomatoes can be divided into:
- determinant;
- indeterminate.
Determinate tomatoes stop growing after the formation of four to five bunches, but the second type grows constantly. Since the ideal tomato is planted twice a week, more and more summer residents are paying attention to low-growing (determinant) varieties and hybrids. Tomatoes and cucumbers are most often grown in Russia. These are the vegetables that we cannot do without at any feast. As soon as spring comes, all summer residents begin to look for seeds to grow. First of all, they should be interested in information about the variety or hybrid, which is indicated on the packaging:
- speed of maturation;
- productivity;
- disease resistance;

Low-growing varieties that do not require pinching
Some determinate varieties require pinching; you need to remember this and not hope that if the variety is low-growing, you can plant it and forget about it until harvest.
We will describe only those varieties in the cultivation of which this procedure can be avoided. They will be short growing and intended to be grown in open ground.
Alpha
A tomato that can be eaten fresh. The taste is good, the tomatoes store well. In open ground it ripens in just 85-90 days, with yields reaching 6.2 kilograms per square meter. This tomato is one of the shortest, the bush reaches only 40-50 centimeters in height. The plant is not susceptible to late blight due to its early ripening. The fruits themselves are small, red, and round in shape.
Bakhtemir
Low-growing tomato varieties, such as "Bakhtemir", bear fruit very well. Due to the fact that the stems grow inactively and then stop growing altogether, the bush turns out to be completely strewn with fruits weighing up to 80 grams. The variety is a mid-early variety and ripens in 121 days. The taste is good, tomatoes can be stored for a long time and can be transported over long distances. The height of the plant is approximately 45-50 centimeters.
Buyan yellow
The seeds of this variety are quite popular, both red and yellow tomatoes. Let's talk about the second one. The bush is standard, does not exceed 50 centimeters in height. "Buyan" tolerates short-term temperature changes well and can be grown in open ground without risk. The fruits are small on a branch, the color is very beautiful bright yellow, the taste is excellent, with sourness. This allows you to use tomatoes both for salads and for canning. The ripening period is 115 days.
Vershok
This variety is famous for its small red fruits with excellent taste. From the appearance of the first shoots to ripening, only 90 days pass. The Vershok variety is resistant to TMV, fusarium and cladospirosis. The bushes are standard, reaching a height of 50-60 centimeters. Fresh tomatoes are most often consumed because they are very tasty. Since this is a mini-tomato, the high yield of the variety will not produce more than 2.8 kilograms per square meter.
Gavroche
Tomatoes of the "Gavroche" variety are small (up to 50 grams), and the bushes are low-growing without pinching. Ripening occurs very quickly, in just 80-85 days.
The fruits are of excellent quality, the plant itself resistant to late blight and never gets sick of it. The yield is average, the variety is valued precisely for its good keeping quality and excellent taste.
Cheerful gnome
This variety is represented more large fruits of elongated cylindrical shape. The color of the vegetables is red, they are dense and store well. In appearance, they look very unusual, as can be seen from the photo; of the few tomatoes that do not require pinching, they are considered one of the most unpretentious.
They ripen in about 105 days, the bush itself does not exceed half a meter in height. The variety was bred specifically for cultivation in Russia in open ground; it is not afraid of small temperature changes. The yield reaches 5.4 kilograms per square meter.
Foreign exchange
The variety with an unusual name is represented by medium-sized red fruits. Its yield is average, ranging from 5 to 5.5 kilograms per square meter. The bush is standard, but it will have to be tied up. The fruits are universally used, they are quite tasty, 110-120 days pass from the moment the first shoots appear until ripening. Ideal for growing in open ground.
Far North
Many varieties are bred specifically for cultivation in central Russia, where summer temperatures are quite unstable. “Far North” are low-growing tomatoes for open ground without pinching. The bush reaches a height of 45-60 centimeters, sometimes it does not even require tying. The tomatoes are small in size, round and red in color, their taste deserves a “five” rating, they are used for canning and in salads. It ripens very quickly, in 105 days, yielding the harvest before cold weather and late blight infection. Resistant to crown and root rot. It can be grown both in the south and in the north of the country.
Krakowiak
A variety with a small yield, but ripening in 78 days. However, this does not affect the quality and taste of tomatoes. They turn out meaty and very tasty, aromatic. The color of tomatoes is scarlet.
It is grown successfully in open ground, the plant is low-growing, the seeds can be planted for seedlings even later than others. The variety is demanding on the application of mineral fertilizers; it responds well to them.
A little prince
This tomato can be considered a dwarf tomato; some housewives plant the seeds directly in pots and wait for the harvest. The bush is small in size, only 40-45 centimeters high, so it does not require pinching or gartering. The ripening period does not exceed 95 days, and the yield for such a baby is very high. From a square meter you can easily harvest up to 5 kilograms of excellent quality tomatoes.
Rose of Wind
Low-growing tomatoes “Wind Rose” are designed specifically for open ground. The harvest finally ripens on the 105th day and is famous for its yield and excellent taste. The fruits are tasty, fleshy, and beautiful pink in color. The bush itself does not need pinching; it barely reaches half a meter in height.
The marketability and taste of the “Wind Rose” variety are excellent; tomatoes are used for making sauces, for salads, and canned.
Hurricane
This is the first hybrid on our list, which is why it produces a large harvest when compared with varietal tomatoes.
You need to pay attention to this. Hurricane tomatoes ripen in 90-110 days and have excellent taste. One cluster bears 6-8 medium-sized fruits (approximately 80-90 grams), under the weight of which the plant can bend to the ground. The hybrid produces a healthy harvest; a gardener can harvest up to 10 kilograms of tomatoes from one square meter.
There is no need to plant the plant; it is a standard bush and new branches are rarely formed. The hybrid is resistant to late blight.

For those gardeners who decide to demand unpretentiousness from their tomatoes, it is important to note that this will mean sacrificing some important qualities.
Most low-growing tomatoes are small-sized fruits, and yield suffers as a result. If a medium-sized bush produces 8-10 kilograms of tomatoes per square meter, then small fruits will produce 2-5 kilograms. Some housewives prefer fleshy and large tomatoes. Among those presented above there are fleshy ones, but there are no large ones at all.
