The Gift of Magarach grape is rightfully considered one of the best technical varieties used for the production of wine and juice. Good resistance to cold, diseases and pests, as well as high yield and ease of care make it possible to grow this crop both in professional viticulture and at home.
History of appearance
A variety of white wine grapes called Magarach's Gift was bred by Yalta breeders by crossing the wine variety Rkatsiteli (Georgia) and the technical hybrid Magarach 2/57/72, for the creation of which scientists used Mtsvane Kakheti and Sochi black. The originator of the variety is the All-Russian National Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking “Magarach” (patent No. 07371).This crop was bred for industrial production and was included in the State Register in 1987.
Description of the Gift of Magarach grape variety
Magarach's gift is white wine grapes, the external description of which is similar to other representatives of this culture. It differs from its table relatives in its less pronounced taste and berry size.
Bunches
The medium-density cylindrical-conical clusters of the fruit grapes Gift of Magarach are relatively small - the weight of one cluster at the stage of full maturity is 150-200 g. Each fruitful shoot contains 2-3 full-fledged clusters.
Berries
The berries are small (about 2 g), juicy. The juice content in them during the ripening period is 75-85%. The color of the fruit is white, with a slight pink tint, which becomes more pronounced as it ripens. The shape is regular, round, the surface is covered with a white waxy coating visible to the naked eye, which makes the berries more durable and allows them to be transported over short distances.
The skin of the berries is thin and elastic. The slimy pulp, reminiscent in structure of Isabella grapes, may become blurry at the stage of full ripeness.
Vine
White grapes Gift of Magarach is a climbing plant, the shoots of which are able to quickly take root in close contact with the soil. To prevent uncontrolled rooting, special supports are used for growing this crop - trellises, arbors, etc.
The growth rate of shoots is defined by experts as medium and high. Therefore, in order to prevent chaotic growth, which spoils the appearance of the vineyard and reduces the crop yield, annual pruning is performed.
The medium-sized, slightly dissected leaves have a rounded, five-lobed shape. The surface of the leaf blade is glossy, pubescent, covered with net wrinkles.
Grape flowers are bisexual, so pollination of the plant occurs without the participation of other varieties.

Planting grapes Gift of Magarach
Grapes Gift of Magarach are grown as a root crop on free lands in compliance with all quarantine measures.
This variety can grow in any soil except swampy and salt marshes. However, the harvest will be better if you use permeable, fertile soil for its cultivation.
To ensure normal development and productivity of Magaracha's Gift grapes, you need to use high-quality planting material. Healthy cuttings and seedlings have smooth bark without swelling, mechanical damage or signs of disease.
Cuttings and seedlings are planted, burying them in the soil to the growth point. When planting, the distance between bushes should be 80-90 cm, and between rows - at least 1 m.
Caring for grapes Gift from Magarach
Caring for grapes Magarach's gift is almost the same as for other representatives of this culture.
In the list of events:
- Watering. This variety requires regular, approximately twice a month, abundant moisture. An amount of water is poured under each bush that can wet the soil by 50 cm. You can reduce the frequency of watering by mulching the root zone.
- Feeding. Fertilizers for Magaracha's Gift grapes are selected individually, taking into account the composition of the soil and climatic characteristics of the region in which it grows.
- Trimming. The recommended bush shape for this variety is a two-armed cordon. After autumn pruning, 45-50 eyes should remain on the vine. Shoots are removed by 2-3 buds. To prevent overloading of the vines, the bushes are normalized, leaving no more than two bunches on the shoots.
- Protection from cold weather. One of the most popular methods of protection from cold weather is called dry shelter by winegrowers, during which the grapevine is laid on dry material (wood, roofing felt, cardboard), covered with polyethylene, and insulation is placed on top - agrofabric, spunbond, etc.
To prevent diseases, bushes are treated twice a season with a solution of colloidal sulfur, iron or copper sulfate. Pollinating bushes with sulfur will also help prevent troubles, which experts recommend to do at an air temperature of at least +20 °C.
Grapes can become victims of pests such as leaf roller and grape borer. To prevent the appearance of leaf rollers, in the spring, before the sap begins to flow, all the bark that has peeled off during the winter is removed and burned. After this, the plantings are treated with copper sulfate or colloidal sulfur.
To prevent grape itching, shoots are sprayed with insecticides before buds open.
During the fruiting season, winegrowers have to deal with invasions of birds and wasps. Sound devices (rattles) help scare off the former, and wasps are dealt with using special traps - bottles with an insecticide solution. To lure insects, sugar is added to the solution.
Conclusion
The Magaracha Gift grape is a noteworthy variety that, with proper care, will provide a good supply of high-quality white wine. And the unpretentiousness of the crop will allow it to be grown not only by experienced specialists, but also by beginning winegrowers.
