Raspberry Tulamin

Canadian breeders have developed a raspberry variety that has gained great popularity and become a recognized leader among the best. We are talking about Tulamin raspberries, a description of the variety, photos and reviews of which will be posted in the article. Gardeners in Canada, Europe and the USA are happy to plant raspberry varieties on their plots and harvest beautiful, tasty berries. If you need to feel the real taste of raspberries, then farmers recommend trying the Tulamin raspberry fruits. The variety is considered the standard of raspberry taste. In the Russian climate, Tulamin raspberries are easier to grow in greenhouses, but in the south, gardeners get good results even without shelter.

Let's consider the main characteristics and nuances of growing raspberries on the site. We will also get acquainted with the description of the variety and photo of the Tulamin raspberry.

Characteristics and description of the variety

According to the fruiting period, Tulamin raspberries belong to the mid-late summer varieties. The harvest is ready for harvest from the end of July; this important period for gardeners continues until the beginning of September.

The raspberry variety forms quite large bushes. Mature plants reach a height of 2 meters or more. The Tulamin raspberry produces a small number of shoots. This is enough to propagate the raspberry variety, but no special measures are required to protect the site from excessive spread of the crop.The Tulamin raspberry bushes are powerful with a small number of thorns and grow quickly. The leaves are deep green and medium in size.

The yield of the raspberry variety is quite high. If you do not violate the requirements of agricultural technology, you can get 3 kg of ripe large berries from one Tulamin bush. And if you pay more attention to the variety, this value will increase to 3.5-4 kg.

The self-fertility of the Tulamin raspberry is also noted in the description of the variety. This characteristic allows farmers to plant bushes in masses without worrying about the location of pollinator varieties. Plantings of Tulamin raspberries look compact, the plants maintain maximum yield.

It’s worth mentioning the fruits separately. The berries of the Tulamin variety of raspberries are large, sweet (with a slight sourness), and aromatic.

Those who grow the plant speak only of admiration about raspberry fruits. One berry weighs 6 g and exudes an unsurpassed aroma. In their reviews, gardeners consider the most important advantage to be the same size of Tulamin raspberry fruits throughout the entire fruiting period.

Important! The berries grow large all the time, do not become smaller, and retain their rich color and aroma.

During storage, the shape and size remain original. The conical shape of the fruit allows them to be compactly placed in containers for transportation. Therefore, when commercially growing raspberries, this is a very advantageous parameter.
Another quality of Tulamin raspberries that makes the variety very attractive to gardeners is good winter hardiness. Of course, in harsh winters, raspberries freeze, but at low temperatures in the southern regions they overwinter well even without shelter. Canadian scientists took care of this at the stage of breeding the Tulamin variety.

Tulamin bushes have high resistance to raspberry diseases.The high resistance of the variety to infection ensures that the fruit does not rot during storage.

Versatility of use. Raspberries of this variety are good fresh, as preparations, and suitable for freezing.

Planting in open ground

Tulamin raspberries are grown in one place for 12 years, so choosing a place for planting should be approached very responsibly. For Tulamin, a flat area is allocated, with good lighting and drainage.

Raspberries do not like stagnant moisture. Usually, if you need inexpensive Tulamin raspberry seedlings, they are purchased with an open root system. This type of planting material:

  • has a limited period from purchase to planting;
  • requires planting in completely thawed soil.

To avoid a large percentage of fallout when planting raspberry seedlings, the site is prepared in advance. And after acquiring raspberry bushes, they are immediately planted in the ground, having first dipped the roots in a clay mash.

A smart solution would be to place rows of Tulamin raspberries along the fence, where the plants will be protected from the wind and will receive good snow cover in winter. Predecessors should not be cultures that have similar diseases. These include potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries.

Important! In open ground, you can get a good harvest of this variety only in the southeastern regions.

If planting Tulamin raspberries is scheduled for spring, then soil preparation should begin in the fall. If it is decided to plant seedlings in the fall, then a month before the scheduled date they begin to prepare the site. The soil is dug up deeply with the simultaneous application of fertilizers. Raspberries respond well to the addition of humus, compost and mineral components. Organics need 3 buckets per 1 sq.m, 60 g of superphosphate is enough, 40 g of potassium fertilizers.

Garden raspberries “Tulamine” are grown in two ways:

  1. Kustov. In this case, each raspberry plant is planted in a separate hole and no more than 10 shoots are left in the bush.
  2. Trellis. This is the name of the strip method of planting raspberries in a row. For this method, trenches are dug.

For bush planting of raspberries, holes measuring 40 x 50 cm are prepared. For the trench, the same parameters are maintained.

In any case:

  • a small mound of soil is poured onto the bottom;
  • moisten the roots of a raspberry seedling in a solution of soil mixture or mullein;
  • lower the plant into the planting hole;
  • sprinkle with soil (the root collar is raised a few cm above ground level);
  • tamp down carefully;
  • water the raspberries.

The optimal location of Tulamin raspberry seedlings on a plot for bush planting is 1 m between plants and 2 m between rows. The following dimensions are used for trenches:

  • between bushes 40 cm;
  • between trenches 1 m.

If the buds develop well, the seedlings are pruned, leaving no more than 30 cm in length. After watering, mulch the plants.

Important! If there was good rain before planting, then the raspberries do not need excess moisture. Therefore, it is better to cancel watering.

In the greenhouse

Planting scheme for Tulamin raspberries for a greenhouse – 0.4 m x 2.0 m. If you decide to plant the bushes in containers, then each should contain at least 5 liters of high-quality substrate. No more than 2 raspberry plants are placed in one pot, on a ridge of 5 by 1 square. m.

Raspberry care

According to gardeners, the most favorite type of care for Tulamin raspberries is watering. The culture is very sensitive to the amount of moisture. You can’t overwater raspberries, but even without a sufficient amount of moisture, the roots will not provide the plant with the necessary elements.It is especially important to water Tulamin regularly after planting so that the plant takes root well. The soil should be saturated with water to the depth of the root tips. For a month, maintain the frequency of watering raspberries 1-2 times a week, pouring 1 bucket of water under one bush. In dry times, increase the volume to 15 liters per plant. You should also not forget about the autumn watering of raspberries, which the variety needs during the period when the shoot growth points are formed.

The second important stage of care is loosening. Raspberry plantings are loosened after watering, but very carefully. The root system is close to the soil surface, so care is required. To simplify this operation, gardeners use mulching. Sawdust or humus (will also serve as fertilizer), peat, hay (without seeds!) are suitable. If you decide to take compost, then it should not contain leaves of fruit trees. Pests love to spend the winter in them.

And one more necessary action when caring for Tulamin raspberries is gartering the bushes. For a single planting, 2 stakes are driven between two bushes, to which the branches of both plants are tied, combining them in a fan. For trench planting, trellises are used.

We list summer activities for caring for Tulamin raspberries based on the description of the variety and reviews from gardeners:

  1. Remove excess young growth. You can either cut off the shoots or dig them up. This must be done so that the raspberry bush does not lose much strength in maintaining the young.
  2. Before flowering begins, spray with a solution of copper sulfate. Additionally, you need to regularly monitor the quality of lighting of the bushes and weed weeds. If the shoots do not get enough sun, it will be more difficult for the raspberries to resist attacks from pests and diseases.
  3. When the ovaries begin to form, feed the Tulamin raspberries with organic matter. An infusion of bird droppings (1:15) is suitable for this purpose. Then it is diluted with water again in a ratio of 1:10. One bush will need 5 liters of fertilizing solution.

After harvesting, it is necessary to prune the shoots that bear fruit from the previous year. At the same time remove diseased, weak and excess ones. Leave 9-10 healthy branches on the bush, on which you trim the tops.

Now let's look at the autumn events. The list consists of watering and another feeding. During this period, the formation of buds for a new harvest occurs. Fertilizers are applied alternating organic matter and mineral complexes. If it’s time to feed organically, add 3 buckets of manure per 1 square meter. m. If it is a mineral complex, then take any for autumn without nitrogen. Before frost sets in, remove the leaves under the bushes and dig up the soil. If the plantings are mulched, then the mulch is incorporated into the soil.

When the temperature in the area reaches sub-zero temperatures even during the day, the raspberry tree is watered for the last time, the leaves are removed, the branches are tilted to the ground and pinned. Cover the top with spruce branches or straw.

Important! Do not collect the shoots in a bunch, otherwise the buds will freeze under the snow.

In a greenhouse, the variety grows more intensively, so trellises and staking are necessary.

Reviews

Tatiana, Krasnodar
I grow Tulamin in open ground. I like the variety for its unpretentiousness and excellent taste. I try to pay attention to watering and fertilizing; diseases do not bother this raspberry much.To prevent the roots from being damaged by rot, I make sure that there are no potatoes, peppers or eggplants among the predecessors. It is important not to plant crops suffering from the same pests next to raspberries. I cover it for the winter, although not very much.

My Tulamin raspberries are growing in a greenhouse. Powerful beautiful plant. The harvest is of very high quality, the berries are well stored and retain their characteristics. The variety is very resistant to diseases, you just need to protect it from root rot - monitor watering, carefully loosen the soil and feed the bushes.
