Raspberry Taganka was obtained by breeder V. Kichina in Moscow. The variety is considered one of the best in terms of yield, winter hardiness and ease of care. The plant is especially sensitive to drought, so it requires regular watering. Below are photos and descriptions of the Taganka raspberry variety.
Description of the variety
The external characteristics of the Taganka raspberry bush are as follows:
- strong shoots up to 2 m high;
- thick and long spines are located on the lower part of the branches;
- on new shoots the thorns are softer;
- each bush produces up to 10 shoots;
- medium degree of density and spreading of the bush;
- two-year-old shoots are brown in color;
- young shoots have a brown tint;
- The frost resistance of the Taganka variety allows it to withstand temperatures down to -20 degrees.
According to reviews and photos of Taganka raspberries, the description of the variety is as follows:
- large berries weighing 5-6 g;
- elongated fruits;
- juicy pulp and pronounced berry aroma;
- fruit ripening occurs evenly;
- good transportability.
The Taganka variety is remontant. At the beginning of summer, the berries ripen on last year's shoots, and in the middle of the season, annual stems produce a harvest.The formation of the first harvest weakens the plant, and subsequently smaller berries are born. If you need to get one, but abundant harvest, then old shoots need to be pruned in the fall.
Productivity of the variety
Taganka raspberries are characterized by high productivity. During the season, up to 5 kg of berries are harvested from one bush, if the plant is properly cared for.
The Taganka variety is a late-ripening variety. The berries ripen on annual shoots in August, and fruiting lasts until late autumn.
Boarding order
The Taganka variety is planted in previously prepared areas. Be sure to take into account the rules of crop rotation. The soil under the raspberry garden is fertilized with manure or compost, as well as minerals. Seedlings are obtained from adult bushes or purchased from specialized centers.
Selecting a location
To ensure good fruiting, you need to choose a suitable place for Taganka raspberries. This plant prefers well-lit places, but can also grow in the shade.
If a dark place is chosen, this will negatively affect the development and yield of raspberries. Lack of sunlight also reduces the taste of the berries.
Plantings are not placed between fruit trees, since darkened areas form under them. Trees more actively absorb moisture and nutrients that raspberries may not get.
Preparing the soil for Taganka raspberries begins in advance, in the fall or spring, depending on the time of planting. The soil should be saturated with minerals that promote the growth of the root system.
The predecessors of raspberries are cucumbers, onions, garlic, melons, and perennial herbs (clover, fescue, alfalfa). It is not recommended to grow this berry after tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries due to the presence of common diseases.
Groundwater should be located at least 1.5 m deep. Taganka raspberries do not react to acidic soils, however, soil with average acidity should be fertilized with dolomite flour.
After harvesting the previous crop, you need to dig up the soil and apply fertilizer to each square meter:
- manure (5 kg);
- superphosphate (2 tbsp);
- potassium sulfate (30 g).
A month before planting, the area needs to be plowed, the soil loosened and its surface leveled with a rake.
Raspberry propagation
It is very easy to propagate Taganka raspberries. From plants more than two years old, young shoots are transplanted to a new site. Compared to other varieties, Taganka seedlings look thinner and smaller, but they take root well and quickly begin to grow.
To propagate the Taganka variety, select healthy and productive bushes that have lateral shoots with a lignified trunk. They should grow at a distance of 30 cm from the mother plant. The offspring should have a height of 10 to 20 cm. The shoots are dug up along with a lump of earth and transferred to a new place.
Landing in the ground
Remontant raspberries are planted in one of the following ways:
- Tape landing. Taganka variety seedlings are placed in several rows, with 1.5-2 m between them.Leave 70-90 cm between plants. This order will provide the shoots with access to the sun's rays and will prevent the plantings from becoming dense.
- Square bush planting. The plot for raspberries is divided into squares with sides of 1-1.5 m, into which plants are planted.
- Curtain planting. Raspberries can be planted in small groups of 2-3 seedlings. Leave 70 cm between groups.
- Triangular fit. Taganka variety seedlings are placed in a triangle with sides of 0.5 m.
Holes 40 cm deep and 50 cm wide are prepared for the seedlings. They are dug 3 weeks before work so that the soil can settle. After the specified time, the seedling is lowered into the hole, its roots are straightened and covered with earth. Be sure to water the raspberries generously.
Features of care
Remontant raspberry requires standard care for raspberries: adding moisture and fertilizers, as well as pruning plants. Landing and raspberry care Taganka in Kuban and other southern regions is simpler, but you need to monitor the soil moisture. In more northern regions, intensive feeding will be required.
Watering the plantings
Remontant raspberries of the Taganka variety need regular watering. The procedure is performed once a week; during drought, it is allowed to increase the frequency of watering. The soil in the raspberry garden should always remain slightly moist.
When watering, the soil should be wet to a depth of 40 cm. It is especially important to add moisture before flowering and when fruits ripen. In autumn, the last pre-winter watering is carried out.
Raspberry feeding
Since the fruiting of Taganka raspberries is extended over time, the plants require high-quality fertilizing. Procedures begin in the second year after planting.
Taganka raspberries are sensitive to a lack of nitrogen in the soil, so feeding carried out with organic fertilizer (infusion of mullein in a ratio of 1:10 or bird droppings in a ratio of 1:20). For every square meter of raspberry bush, 5 liters of such liquid fertilizer are required.
When the first berries ripen, potassium fertilizer or slurry is applied under the raspberries. Due to potassium, the taste of the fruit will improve.
In autumn, superphosphate is added to the soil under Taganka raspberries. For each bush, take one teaspoon of fertilizer, which is embedded in the soil. On sandy soils, you can double the fertilizer rate. Additionally, humus or rotted manure (1 bucket) is poured under each plant.
Pruning for winter
After fruiting, remontant raspberries of the Taganka variety are pruned at the root. This procedure is justified in the southern regions. Next year fruiting will begin on young shoots. Without a shoot, insects and pathogens will not be able to find shelter for the winter.
If pruning is not carried out, the shoots are bent to the ground and covered with a layer of mulch (dry leaves or spruce branches). Raspberries do not require additional shelter if there is high snow cover in the region.
Reviews from gardeners
Conclusion
According to the photo and description, the Taganka raspberry variety is a tall bush, resistant to winter cold snaps and diseases. Raspberries are planted on prepared soil, which is fertilized with compost and mineral components. Mandatory compliance landing schemeto avoid thickening. With proper care, the bush produces stable harvests of large berries.
