The crooked or distinctly nodulated champignon is an edible representative of the Champignon family. Grows among coniferous trees from July to October. In appearance it is very similar to the pale grebe, therefore, in order not to harm your body, you need to carefully study the description, view photos and videos.
What does a crooked champignon look like?
The cap, 10 cm in diameter, resembles a blunt bell at a young age; over time, the surface straightens and becomes flat and round. It is covered with a gray-white velvety skin that is easily removed during cleaning. The bottom layer is formed by thin dark plates covered with a dense film. As it grows, it breaks through and descends onto the leg in the form of a skirt. Reproduction occurs by elongated spores, which are found in dark brown powder.
The leg is smooth, cylindrical in shape, grows up to 8 cm. The velvety surface is colored to match the cap and becomes hollow with age. The pulp is dense, light yellow in color; when pressed or mechanically damaged, a small yellow spot remains. The species has a light anise aroma and mushroom taste.
Where does the clearly nodulated champignon grow?
The crooked champignon prefers to grow in coniferous forests, on a needle-like substrate. Found in single specimens and small families.
Is it possible to eat crooked champignon?
The species is edible and has the same taste as field champignon. It is used fried, boiled and canned. Before cooking, the mushroom crop is cleared of soil and the film is removed. They can also be dried and frozen. The frozen product is stored for no more than a year; thawed mushrooms are not frozen again.
False doubles
The crooked champignon, like any representative of the mushroom kingdom, has doubles. Based on its external characteristics, it can be confused with the following types:
- Field champignon - an edible specimen with good taste. It grows on sunny lawns, in grass, in urban areas, along roads. Fruits from May to October. The species is distributed throughout Russia.
- Yellow-skinned – a poisonous specimen, if consumed it causes severe food poisoning. The mushroom can be recognized by its yellow-white surface with a brownish speck in the center. When pressed, a yellow spot appears. The pulp is brown in color. When cooked, a strong phenolic odor appears.
Rules for collection and use
Crooked champignons are collected in the morning, in clear, dry weather. The found mushrooms are not cut off, but carefully twisted out. The resulting hole is filled with grass or earth. Since the mushroom, like a sponge, absorbs all harmful substances, collection should be carried out in environmentally friendly places, away from roads and industrial enterprises.
Mushrooms are great for cooking fried and canned dishes, and they also make tasty and aromatic soups.
It is not recommended to consume crooked champignon:
- pregnant and lactating women;
- children under 7 years old;
- people with gastrointestinal diseases;
- with individual intolerance.

Crooked champignon is a tasty, aromatic mushroom that grows in coniferous forests. Since it has poisonous counterparts, it is necessary to carefully study it before going on a quiet hunt. Experienced mushroom pickers recommend, in order not to harm yourself and your loved ones, to pass by old and unknown specimens.
