The Melitopol black cherry variety is in the State Register for the North Caucasus region. A variety was invented with the direct participation of a variety of crop called “French Black”. Bred at the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture named after. M.F. Sidorenko UAAN breeder M.T. Oratovsky.

Description of culture

The tree of this variety is a fast-growing one. An adult plant reaches large sizes. Its crown is round, dense and wide. The leaves, like the fruits themselves, are large: ripe berries weigh up to 8 grams, are oval in shape, dark red (almost black) in color. The pulp and juice are also dark red.

The taste is excellent, the berries are sweet with pleasant sourness and a subtle bitterness (characteristic of cherries), dense in structure.

Melitopol black cherries suitable for cultivation in the south of Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. In these regions it is grown on an industrial scale.

The fruits do not crack or fall off.

Drought resistance and winter hardiness

The culture tolerates frost well. Even in the winter cold, at an ambient temperature of 25 C. The freezing point reached only 0.44. But during severe spring frosts, the death of pistils can reach 52%.
