Feijoa marshmallow recipe

Feijoa - an amazing tropical fruit, reminiscent of strawberries and kiwi, pineapples and banana in taste and aroma. This exotic fruit is not yet a very frequent guest on Russian tables, but if you try it once, then it will be difficult to deny yourself the pleasure.

Feijoa is usually consumed raw, scooping out the delicious, aromatic pulp with a spoon. But unfortunately, it does not last long. And how I would like to enjoy feijoa on winter evenings. Many housewives are interested in how feijoa pastille is prepared.

Choosing the right fruits

Feijoa is used to make marshmallows, marmalade, jams and jellies. Jams are very tasty and healthy, the preparation of which does not require heat treatment.

But no matter what recipe you choose, you need to choose the right feijoa fruits. Only ripe specimens are suitable for marshmallows. Unripe or overripe ones can bring all your efforts to naught. Pastila is an excellent product for tea. Due to the presence of a large amount of vitamin C, the preparations are stored for a long time.

Feijoas ripen in the fall, and they begin to be sold in stores in late October. Since transporting ripe fruits is problematic, they are cut unripe. Ripening occurs on the way to potential buyers.

When buying feijoa, pay attention to the external signs of the fruit:

  • the presence of stains and darkening of the peel indicate a low-quality product;
  • there should also be no wrinkles;
  • When cut, the flesh of ripe feijoa is transparent and resembles jelly.

Marshmallow made from exotic fruits, even after heat treatment, does not lose its valuable properties, and the main element, iodine, is also not lost.

Feijoa pastille

To prepare a delicious dessert according to the recipe below, stock up on the following products in advance:

  • exotic fruits - 2 full handfuls;
  • natural honey – 2 tablespoons;
  • apple – 1 piece;
  • peeled seeds - 1 handful;
  • sesame seeds and peeled seeds for sprinkling.

How to prepare a delicacy

  1. We wash the feijoas, let the water drain and cut them off from both ends. Then cut into pieces.
  2. Wash the apple, cut out the stem and core with seeds, and chop finely.
  3. We wash the peeled sunflower seeds and dry them with a napkin.
  4. Place the feijoa, apple and seeds in a blender and blend thoroughly until you get a homogeneous puree.
  5. To make the dried delicacy look attractive, pour the mixture onto a sheet in a thin layer. Use a spoon for leveling. Sprinkle sesame or sunflower seeds on top.
Important! Place parchment paper or a special mat on the sheet, which we grease with oil, otherwise the marshmallow will stick.

Place the sheet in the oven, preheating it to 38 degrees. Since there is plenty of moisture, the fruit treat will take at least 20 hours to dry. If it does not have time to dry during this time, leave the sheet for another 5-6 hours.

It’s easy to check the readiness of the marshmallow: if it doesn’t stick in the center, it means it’s ready. Remove the sheet of marshmallow from the oven and let cool slightly. The fact is that it is more convenient to roll the marshmallow while it is still warm.

Dried feijoa marshmallow can be cut into circles or rolled into a tube for further storage in a cool place.

Conclusion

Of course, drying marshmallows in the oven is not entirely convenient. If you do this type of work all the time, it is best to purchase special equipment. The role of dryers in the preparation of marshmallows is well described in the video:
