Perennial shrubs for the garden and dacha: names with photos

Perennial shrubs – an excellent option for decorating a country landscape. After all, such plants retain their decorative properties throughout the season and require annual replanting.

Flowering shrubs at certain times are covered with many beautiful and fragrant flowers, which looks even more impressive than just lush greenery.

Photos and names of flowering perennial shrubs will help gardeners decide on the type of flowers and choose the most suitable plants for their site.

How to choose the right variety of flowering shrub

Not all shrubs can take root in absolutely any conditions, so when choosing flowers it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the site. When choosing garden flowers, you need to consider the following factors:

  1. Frost resistance bush is very important, especially in the northern regions of the country. If in the south almost all varieties of perennial shrubs can grow, then for Siberia and the Urals it will be necessary to select the most frost-resistant varieties.
  2. The need for shelter shrubs for the winter should also worry the gardener, because this requires certain skills, special material and, of course, time
  3. Method of care behind the bushes is no less important.This question is especially interesting for summer residents who visit their plot only on weekends. As a rule, perennials do not require complex care: they only need watering and fertilizer.
  4. Removing flower stalks may be mandatory or not, you need to find out about this detail at the stage of choosing a shrub
  5. Soil composition significantly affects the flowering of certain perennials. Some shrubs are only suitable for fertile soils, some of them thrive on clay or sandy soils, and there are those that can grow on rocks.
  6. Length of "life" It is customary to call the period during which the bush will bloom and delight the owners of the site with its beauty. As a rule, gardeners prefer long-lived shrubs that do not need to be replanted for several years or decades.
  7. Crown height and volume shrub, the branching of its root system is also necessarily taken into account when purchasing plants, because a perennial bush must fit in the space allocated for it.

Advice! When choosing perennial shrubs for your site, you need to take into account the maximum size of the crown and roots that the plant will reach at maturity.

Park rose

This perennial is also called "shrub rose" There are several ways to plant this plant:

  • cuttings;
  • seeds;
  • layering;
  • seedlings.

Park rose

In essence, the shrub is a cultivated rose hip, blooming profusely and for a long time, and bearing fruit at the end of the season.

The best soil for parkland roses Clay soil with a high humus content is considered. This shrub loves light soils; if the soil on the site is too heavy, you need to add a little peat or sawdust to it.Rose bushes should be planted in well-lit open areas; in the shade of buildings or trees, roses begin to ache and bloom very sparingly. You should care for park rose bushes in this way:

  • fertilize (especially young bushes) several times a season;
  • Roses need to be watered, but do it with caution - these flowers do not like excessive humidity;
  • the ground around the bush needs to be loosened regularly;
  • A rose grafted onto a rose hip must be properly pruned so that the bush does not run wild and forms normally;
  • many varieties and absolutely all young shrubs need to be covered for the winter; for this, the soil around the stems is mounded and the shoots are wrapped in thick paper;
  • For some varieties of park roses, it is important to cut off the withered peduncles, otherwise fresh buds will not appear.

Jasmine

This shrub is often confused with mock orange - both plants have similar flowers, distinguished by their beauty and unsurpassed aroma. It is better to plant jasmine in early spring or autumn.

Jasmine

You can do this in several ways:

  • seeds;
  • seedlings;
  • layering;
  • cuttings;
  • dividing the bush.

Jasmine loves the sunHowever, it is best to avoid areas with direct sunlight throughout the day. Humidity and temperature conditions are very important for this shrub.

Jasmine

In winter and autumn, jasmine requires a lower temperature than in summer and spring, which is excellent for the domestic climate.

Many varieties of jasmine are frost-resistant - this bush does not have to be covered for the winter. The perennial blooms in June and July. The flowering is very abundant, the inflorescences are white or cream-colored, with a pronounced exotic aroma. The height of the bush usually does not exceed two meters.

In order for jasmine to bloom abundantly and lushly, the perennial bush needs to be fed with humus, watered well, dry shoots cut off and removed weeds.

Lilac

There is probably no person in Russia who has never seen a lilac. This is a universal shrub that decorates gardens and summer cottages in all regions of the country.

Lilac

The shrub is extremely unpretentious, can be grown on any soil (but does not really like sandy soils), and can easily tolerate even severe frosts.

For proper development and formation of the bush, it is necessary to regularly cut off the root shoots and remove wilted clusters of inflorescences.

The strong floral aroma of lilac bushes is familiar to everyone; this smell cannot be confused with anything else. Today, many varieties of this shrub have been selected: with double flowers, with multi-colored petals, with flowers from snow-white to deep burgundy.

Lilac

It is recommended to grow lilacs in a well-lit area; it is better to plant them in spring or autumn. Regular watering and maintaining soil moisture are very important for shrubs, so the ground around the stems must be mulched or loosened.

Advice! Experienced gardeners recommend that when watering a lilac bush, generously moisten the foliage itself, and not just the soil around the bush.

Forsythia

A perennial shrub that is one of the first to bloom in the garden. Bright yellow bell-shaped inflorescences appear on forsythia branches earlier than green foliage - this is the uniqueness of the shrub.

Forsythia

It is recommended to plant bushes in well-lit garden areas protected from strong winds. It’s good if there is enough free space around the bush. Forsythia usually grows to 1.5-2 meters in height and has a fairly spreading crown.

There is no need to water this shrub too often and abundantly - there is a high risk of root rotting. The plant needs to be fertilized with rotted manure. Old shoots should be pruned so that they continue to grow in the new spring. Also, pruning is used to shape the crown of the bush and get rid of dry branches.

Forsythia

The plant prefers nutritious soils that are loose and saturated with oxygen. In the first years after planting, forsythia is covered for the winter; for this purpose, the branches of the bush are pinned to the ground and wrapped in insulation.

The soil around the bush needs to be dug up with about half a shovel's worth. So, the soil and roots of forsythia will be saturated with oxygen.

Important! For a forsythia bush, a little drought is much more favorable than excessive moisture.

Weigela

A very interesting perennial shrub. Firstly, it is a deciduous species, secondly, the color of the flowers varies from pale pink to rich fuchsia, and thirdly, weigela blooms twice during one season (in May and August).

Weigela

Plant the shrub in the spring before the buds open. Choose a place that is sunny, warm, protected from drafts and wind. The soil is suitable loamy or sandy loam. If several weigela bushes are planted nearby, an interval of at least 1.5 meters must be maintained between them, otherwise the plants will not have enough air, nutrients and moisture - the flowering of the bush will become less abundant.

Perennial bushes need to be watered abundantly, especially do not forget about watering on hot days. Old shoots and too thick crowns must be trimmed once every three years. This is done in the spring, before the buds and flowers bloom. Every spring, the bush is fed with urea, superphosphate and potassium.

Weigela is a heat-loving shrub, so it must be covered for the winter. Dry leaves, spruce branches or sawdust are used for this. The top of the bush is covered with film or polymer covering material.

Hydrangea

This wild-flowering shrub is quite capricious, especially regarding the level of humidity and soil composition. For planting bushes, choose a place in partial shade, since in the sun the hydrangea foliage will be lethargic.

You can plant a bush in spring or autumn; in cold regions it is better to do this in the spring, so that before the onset of winter cold the bush is fully strengthened and grows a little.

Hydrangea

Hydrangea bushes will have to be watered at least twice a week; 30-50 liters of warm water will have to be poured onto each adult bush. To prevent the soil under the bush from drying out, it is better to mulch it (peat or sawdust). If this is not done, you will have to dig up the ground around the bush at least three times a season.

Pruning faded inflorescences is mandatory for hydrangeas. It is also necessary to trim young branches every spring to stimulate their growth and give the desired shape to the crown.

Hydrangea

To prepare for the winter, hydrangeas are pruned to the fourth bud in the fall - this will ensure the density of the bush for the next season and protect it from freezing. After the first frost, the shrub is hilled up and the area adjacent to the hydrangea is mulched.

Brugmansia

A very interesting plant from the nightshade family. This shrub grows like a liana, its height can reach five meters. The inflorescences are very large - their length is about 50 cm, their shape resembles pointed bells.

Brugmansia

You will have to water the bush every day - the vine loves moisture very much. At the same time, you also need to spray the foliage, trying to prevent water from getting into the open flowers.The water for watering the bush should be warm.

Brugmansia should be planted in partial shade, protecting the bushes from wind and drafts. During the flowering period, the branches become very heavy; it is better to strengthen them with supports. Fertilizing is very important for flowering shrubs; it is carried out with complex fertilizers throughout the summer season.

Results

When choosing a shrubby perennial for your site, first of all, you need to find a place for a new flower. After all, bushes can be quite tall, they require a certain level of light and humidity.

For lush flowering, absolutely all shrubs need to be fed, at least occasionally. However, you should not overuse mineral fertilizers - this can lead to excessive greening of the bush, and flowering, on the contrary, will become scarce.

It is better to plant perennial shrubs in Russia in the spring, so the plants can grow and become stronger before the onset of frost. In the first few years after planting, it is better to cover young bushes for the winter using vapor-permeable material.

Simple rules of care and planting will help decorate the garden with spectacular shrubs, which will delight the owner for several seasons with abundant flowering and the sweet aroma of the bushes.

  1. Good afternoon, Angiza!
    If you decide to bring good, fertile soil to the site, then you must replant the flowers. And there are several reasons for this.
    1. How many years have you had flowers growing on your property? Probably long enough. In any case, the land, as you yourself wrote, is already quite scarce. And it doesn’t hurt to enrich it with nutrients and vitamins.
    2. Any flowers, even those that can grow in one place for quite a long time, need to be replanted and replanted at least once every 4-5 years. During this time, the root system of flowers grows greatly, and often the flowers simply do not have enough minerals and nutrients. Over time, flowers grow worse, bloom less luxuriantly and brightly, and lose varietal characteristics. Replanting your flowers will not hurt, on the contrary, it will breathe new life into them. The main thing is to follow the recommendations of experts on replanting plants and meeting deadlines.
    3. Bulbs, and there are a lot of them in your flower beds - tulips, daffodils - they definitely need to be planted. Over several years, the bulbs grow greatly, and they have to “fight” for nutrients in the literal sense. Otherwise, this threatens degeneration and loss of varietal characteristics.
    Of course, you can add soil. But the whole point is that by scattering soil over the surface, you will not solve the problem of impoverishment. In this case, you need to dig up the soil so that the nutrients are well mixed with the meager soil. And this can be achieved only in one way - by carefully digging the soil.

  2. In the spring we plan to add good soil to our plot (the land is depleted). The following grow on the site: roses, clematis, spirea, deutia, hydrangea, tulips, daffodils, buttercups, daisies. If you add soil, will the bushes and flowers grow and bloom as before or do they need to be dug up and planted again. Answer please.
