Despite the fact that grapes are a heat-loving plant, they are grown in many regions of Russia, even in areas of risky farming. One of the favorite varieties is the Kesha grape. It is characterized by high yield and tasty berries.
The plant grows well, the yield increases from year to year. The main thing is to follow the rules of care and cultivation, and take into account the characteristics of the variety. Experienced gardeners advise having at least a few bushes of this variety on your grape plantation so that you can enjoy the tasty and aromatic fruits.
Description of the variety
Kesha grapes belong to large-fruited and productive varieties. The authors are Russian breeders VNIIViV named after. ME AND. Potapenko. The parents of the Kesha variety are Frumoas Albe and Vostorg grapes. Kesha is often called FV-6-5 or Improved Delight.
- Kesha grapes, according to the description of the variety, are early ripening, technical maturity occurs 4-4.5 months after the buds open, that is, mid or late August.
- The plants are tall, growing up to 5 meters per season. The flowers are bisexual, so there are no problems with pollination.
- On large bunches, peas practically do not occur. They are distinguished by their density and tightness. The length of the bunch is about 24 cm. The brushes themselves have a cone-shaped or cylindrical shape and a long stem.The weight of one bunch of the Kesha variety is from 600 grams to one kilogram.
You need to monitor the bushes and avoid overloading: no more than two brushes on one shoot. - Based on the description of the grape variety, the berries are initially green, but at technical ripeness they are pale yellow, as in the photo below.
- The fruits of this grape variety are uniform, with sweet pulp. The skin is dense, but does not cause any discomfort when eaten. But during transportation, the berries do not wrinkle and retain excellent presentation. The sweet berries, with a delicate aroma of flowers, contain only 2-3 seeds. Sugar 20-25%, acid 4.8-8 g/l. The shape of the berries, weighing up to 14 grams, is round.
Characteristics of grapes
The characteristics are excellent, which increases the popularity of the variety among gardeners:
- Kesha table grapes are frost-resistant, can withstand temperatures down to -23 degrees, which is why they are grown even in regions with risky farming.
- It has excellent keeping quality: it has a long shelf life in the refrigerator.
- Transportability is high, so grapes are grown not only in garden plots, but also on an industrial scale.
- Rooting of cuttings and early fruiting. With proper care, the first bunches can be harvested within two years.
- The plant is unpretentious in care, resistant to many grape diseases, including mildew. But bacterial diseases and oidium without treatment (two or even three times during the growing season) with Bordeaux mixture and fungicides are almost impossible to avoid.
Care and cultivation
The grapes of this variety, as well as its hybrid variants, are lovers of sunny places and fertile soil.First and second generation grape cuttings should be planted mixed with other varieties, since self-pollination will not occur if there is only one variety. After all, the flowers are only female.
Watering is necessary evenly, with sufficient precipitation only twice a year. The grapes are fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers once a year. During the growing season, shoots are pruned so that the plant is not overloaded.
According to gardeners, grapes and their descendants need shelter, despite their frost resistance. Therefore, after autumn feeding and pruning, the grapevine is removed from the trellis and well covered.
Varieties of Keshi
The Kesha grape variety has its own ancestral line of the first and second generations. It is difficult for beginners to understand them, since they are similar in description and taste, although there are still differences:
- variety Kesha;
- first generation - Kesha - 1 (Super Kesha or Talisman, Kesha radiant);
- second generation - Kesha - 2 (Kesha nutmeg, Zlatogor, Tamirlan).
Description of Kesha 1
And now detailed information about the variety:
- The Talisman (Super Kesha) grape variety is dining room form with medium-early ripening periods (from 127 to 135 days). It is more resistant than its parent to many fungal diseases, grape pests and frost.
- The flowers are female and require additional pollination. In this case, peas are practically not observed.If the procedure is carried out untimely or incorrectly, then the bunches will look like in this photo.
- The clusters of Talisman grapes are large, weighing up to a kilogram, have a conical shape, and are often dense.
- The berries are large, each weighing about 14 grams. There are specimens up to 16 grams.
- Talisman is an amber grape variety with a muscat aroma and a spicy, sweet taste.
Kesha red
This grape variety was obtained by crossing Talisman and Cardinal.
Description and characteristics:
- The plant is vigorous and root capable.
- Grones ripen within 125-135 days. They are dense and, with good care, weigh up to two kilograms. They can remain on the vine for a long time without losing their external and taste qualities.
- The berries at technical ripeness are light red or cherry, depending on the location of the vine in relation to the sun with a light bloom.
- The pulp has an apple tone and a harmonious taste.
- Due to the density of the berries, the clusters do not wrinkle and have excellent transportability. When transported over long distances, the presentation of the berries is perfectly preserved.
- Plants are not only frost-resistant, but are also rarely affected by mildew and gray rot.
Kesha 2
Kesha 2 was obtained by crossing Kesha 1 with Kishmish. The variety ripens early (120 days), which makes it possible to create vineyards in the northern regions of Russia. The clusters are conical in shape, weighing up to 1100 grams. At technical maturity, the berries are amber. The taste of nutmeg is more pronounced than that of its ancestor Kesha. The hybrid variety Kesha 2 is also called Muscat, Zlatogor, Tamirlan. There is another variety - Radiant.
Kesha Radiant
This grape variety was obtained in the city of Novocherkassk by crossing Talisman and Kishmish radiata. The author is amateur breeder V. N. Krainov.
Hybrid Kesha Radiant has an average ripening period: technical ripeness occurs around 130 days. Radiant was tested in Belarus, in the southern regions.
It was observed:
- ripening of the vine is successful, rooting of cuttings is excellent, almost along the entire length of the shoot;
- frost resistance up to -24 degrees;
- flowers are bisexual, unlike the parents;
- high-yielding variety: weight of one bunch is 1000-2000 grams, cylindrical-conical shape, no peas are observed;
- berries up to 20 grams with a soft pink or white tint;
- the fruits are fleshy, quite dense, transportable;
- The Luchezarny variety is resistant to fungal diseases, including mildew and oidium.
