Horus preparation for plant treatment

The reality is that without preventive and therapeutic treatments of cultivated plants, it will not be possible to obtain a normal harvest. Almost all plants, trees and shrubs need spray special means to protect them from pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms. Today, one of the most popular broad-spectrum drugs in Russia is Horus, an aminopyrimidine that can not only prevent infections, but also successfully treat them at different stages. This product has a lot of advantages, but the gardener must also be aware of the disadvantages of Horus in order to successfully use it on his site.

Below we will talk about the composition of the drug and provide instructions for using Horus for fruit trees and shrubs. The article also contains information about the dosage of Horus and the compatibility of the drug with other treatment agents.

Chemical composition and principle of action

Horus is a broad-spectrum fungicide. This drug was developed by the Swiss company Syngenta and presented as a powerful antifungal agent.The active ingredient here is the organic compound cyprodinil. The composition of the drug is as follows: a liter of Horus contains 0.75 liters of the active component.

The principle of action of the fungicide is based on the penetration of the active substance into fungal cells and inhibition of amino acid synthesis. As a result of exposure, the vital activity of harmful microorganisms is disrupted, and the mycelium is completely destroyed.

Attention! Cyprodinil is able to penetrate into cells only through thin membranes, so Horus is most active for treating young shoots and leaves with a thin epidermis.

The developers of the drug note its amazing ability to destroy pathogenic fungi of several classes when they are in a dormant state. That is, Treatment of plants with Horus is most effective in the early spring. The remedy is systemic, that is, it can not only prevent the disease, but also cure it.

The drug Horus is produced in the form of small granules that can easily dissolve in water. On sale there are packages with fungicide weighing one, three and fifteen grams, there is also a kilogram package for large farmers and industrial gardens.

Spectrum of action

Most often Horus is used for gardening and fruit tree processing, berry bushes, strawberries, wild strawberries. Unlike other similar fungicides, the Swiss drug effectively and very quickly destroys pathogenic fungi.

Chorus is effective in cases where the disease of fruit trees or other plants is caused by this number of infections:

  • scab;
  • powdery mildew;
  • Clusterosporiosis;
  • moniliosis of stone fruit crops;
  • fruit rot;
  • gray rot;
  • white and brown spots;
  • mildew;
  • leaf curl;
  • Alternaria blight;
  • oidium.
Important! Horus fungicide reliably protects, first of all, plant leaves, without having any toxic effect on them. Phytotoxicity is one of the main advantages of the drug.

Advantages and disadvantages

The use of Horus in gardening allows you to avoid a number of problems. Choosing Horus fungicide for treating plants in the garden should be for a number of reasons:

    • the active substance penetrates into the leaf plate very quickly - within three hours;
    • The fungicide can be used even at low temperatures - from +3 degrees, which allows you to destroy mycelium during the wintering stage;
    • suitability for late processing of fruits, which reduces the risk of infection of the harvested crop with rot by 50%;
    • lack of phytotoxicity;
    • compatibility with other antifungal agents, pesticides and insecticides;
    • economical use of expensive products;
    • weak absorption into the soil, non-distribution of Horus into groundwater;
    • convenient packaging;
    • wide spectrum of action.

Unfortunately, there is still no ideal drug that does not have drawbacks. Horus is no exception; this fungicide has its disadvantages:

  • the product is not able to penetrate the thick epidermis, therefore it is not suitable for treating mature trees and shrubs - It is recommended to spray young plants with Horus at the very beginning of their growing season;
  • the action of the fungicide is local, that is, the substance does not penetrate all parts of the plant;
  • The drug is most effective at average air temperatures – from +3 to +25 degrees. Extreme heat, as well as cold, significantly reduces the effectiveness of Horus.

Advice! To treat mature trees and shrubs, you should choose a different fungicide.Do not use Horus in the summer heat; you can try spraying in the morning or evening, or replace the drug.

Preparation of the solution

Since Horus granules are water-dispersible, they are easy to dissolve in water and prepare a solution in the required proportion. It is necessary to prepare a fungicide solution immediately before treatment - the finished product cannot be stored.

The preparation is very simple:

  1. The spray container is washed with clean water.
  2. Fill the container one third with water.
  3. According to the instructions, calculate the dosage of Horus and pour out the required amount of granules.
  4. Stir the resulting mixture thoroughly.
  5. After that, just add the remaining water. Stir again.
Attention! After use, the remaining fungicide solution must be poured out, as they cannot be stored.

The consumption rate of Horus is 1 cubic meter per hectare of gardens. These are approximate figures recommended for industrial scale. A more precise dosage should be calculated taking into account the type of plant, treatment time and crown size.

Printed bags are not stored for long, since the fungicide granules actively absorb moisture from the air. Unopened containers with Horus are stored for up to three years in a dark place, out of reach of children and pets, at a temperature of -10 to +35 degrees.

Dosage calculation

The application rate of Horus also depends on the type of plant and the disease to which it has been exposed. Most often, this fungicide is used to treat pome and stone fruit crops.

Molonial burns and leaf curl of stone fruit trees should be treated with a solution with the following concentration: 2 grams of Horus per 10 liters of water.The first spraying of trees is carried out in the phase of pink buds, and again after two weeks.

Clusterosporiasis, coccomycosis, fruit rot eliminated with a more concentrated composition: 2 grams of fungicide per 5 liters of water. The first treatment of fruit trees can be carried out at the “green cone” stage, subsequent sprayings are carried out at intervals of 15 days.

Attention! The last treatment of trees with Horus is carried out no later than 15 days before harvest.

Pome fruit trees (apple trees, pears) are treated with Horus for fruit rot, scab, and Alternaria blight. To do this, 2 grams of fungicide are dissolved in 10 liters of water and the trees are sprayed twice: during the period of bud swelling and after 15 days.

How to apply the product to different plants

Instructions for using Horus are usually given on the fungicide packaging. As practice shows, for each young fruit tree you will have to spend from two to four liters of the finished solution. Due to the water dispersibility of the product, it dries quickly and covers all parts of the plant with a thin film. After just a couple of hours, there is no need to fear rain, since the active ingredient of Horus has penetrated inside.

Important! The effect of Horus on a plant can last from 7 to 10 days. Repeated treatment cannot be carried out earlier than 10 days after the previous one.

For apple and pear trees

It is recommended to treat pome fruit crops with Horus to prevent scab, powdery mildew, monilial blight and Alternaria blight. Spraying is carried out twice: at the stage of bud break (“along the green cone”) and, somewhere on the tenth day after the end of flowering of the trees.

The fungicide consumption in this case is 10 liters per 100 square meters of garden.

Advice! A couple of weeks before the upcoming harvest, you can directly process the fruits of stone fruits. Horus will protect the crop from premature rotting and spoilage and will allow you to store fruit longer.

For cherries, peaches, apricots, cherries, plums

To treat and prevent infection of stone fruit crops (for example, peach) with monilial burn, treatment with Horus must be performed before flowering, and repeated spraying is carried out a week later.

Fruit rot can be treated immediately after the first symptoms of the disease appear. Spraying the fruit with a fungicide is repeated at intervals of two weeks so that the last treatment takes place no later than 15 days before harvest.

Coccomycosis and klyasterosporiosis are treated with double treatment: at the initial manifestations of the disease and 10 days after the first exposure to the drug.

Grape processing

Chorus is also effective for grapes. With the help of a fungicide, this crop is treated for gray rot and downy mildew. The leaves and vines should be processed three times during the growing season: at the budding stage, during the formation of bunches, and during the ripening of the grapes.

Attention! To process grapes, a more concentrated solution of Horus is used: 6 grams of the drug per 5 liters of water.

Spraying strawberries and wild strawberries

Horus also helps against diseases of berries, such as strawberries and wild strawberries. The fungicide is effective in cases of plant infection with white and brown spot, powdery mildew, and gray rot.

Berry crops are sprayed three times per season, and the concentration of the fungicide is always different. Before flowering and immediately after picking the berries, strawberries are treated with a solution of 6 grams of Horus and 10 liters of water.During the period of ovary formation, the concentration should be halved: 3 grams of fungicide per 10 liters. For a strawberry plot of 100 mAbout five liters of working composition are consumed.

Advice! You can increase the effectiveness of Horus by adding products such as Skor and Topaz. Trees and shrubs can be treated with the resulting substance no later than two hours after preparation.

Review

Svetlana Igorevna
Previously, I used Bordeaux mixture for early spring spraying of my trees and shrubs. When I started spraying with Horus, I realized the difference: now two preventative treatments are enough, and the trees do not suffer from anything all season long. What I like most is the drug’s resistance to precipitation; many gardeners are probably aware of the problem of rain after treating plants. In spring, warmth does not come to us for a long time, and you can use Horus already at three degrees - fungi and infections simply do not have time to wake up.

Conclusion

Horus is an effective and popular fungicidal drug. The drug has earned the love of gardeners due to the possibility of early use, a wide spectrum of action and economical consumption.

Reviews about this fungicide are only positive; the only drawback identified by domestic gardeners is the rapid disappearance of the drug from shelves. It’s better to buy Horus in advance, without waiting for spring!
