Pesticide Derby: instructions for use, active ingredient

Derby herbicide is a systemic preparation that protects grain crops from most common dicotyledonous weeds. It is considered a standard in the fight against grass such as tenacious bedstraw. It is used even at cool temperatures from 7-8 degrees Celsius. Gives a protective effect for 3-4 weeks. Can be used without crop rotation restrictions.

Composition and description of Derby herbicide

The herbicide is intended to protect different varieties of barley and wheat from most common dicotyledonous weeds: bedstraw, blue cornflower, spurge, knotweed, forget-me-not, henbane, garden sow thistle, shepherd's purse.

Derby herbicide contains two active substances of organic nature:

  • florasulam at a concentration of 75 g per 1 liter;
  • flumetsulam – 100 g per 1 liter.

The product is produced in the form of a suspension concentrate (colloidal thick solution, creamy consistency). The manufacturer is the American company Dow AgroSciences Vmbh. Packaged in cans of different sizes.

The shelf life of Derby herbicide is two years from the date of production. It should be stored in a temperature range from -5 to +40 degrees, excluding access to direct sunlight. Should also be kept away from children.

Operating principle

Both described components belong to the chemical class of triazolepyrimidines. They slow down the action of vital enzymes, which blocks the synthesis of amino acids such as leucine, valine and isoleucine. The substances have a systemic effect - they do not remain on the surface of the leaves, but penetrate through the vessels into all plant tissues.

Initially they enter through leaves and roots, but do not penetrate into the grains themselves. Inhibits the action of the enzyme acetolactate synthetase. After 2-3 weeks, signs of necrosis are visible on the surface of the weed leaves. The veins become discolored and symptoms of chlorosis appear. Complete death occurs four weeks after application of Derby herbicide.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of Derby herbicide is its excellent effect when used in the fight against tenacious bedstraw. The drug is considered a reference in this direction - other drugs do not give such stable results.

Derby is considered the standard in the fight against tenacious bedstraw

Pros:

  • no restrictions on crop rotation;
  • can be used both on seedlings and on overgrown weeds;
  • perfectly compatible with most drugs and fertilizers;
  • can be used even in cool conditions (from 7 degrees Celsius);
  • resistance to rain two hours after spraying;
  • low toxicity – class 3;
  • The pesticide is suitable for protecting cereal crops before harvest.

Minuses:

  • the period of protective action is no more than one month;
  • the product cannot be used in water protection zones;
  • Waiting times are long – 60 days.

Preparation of working solution

To prepare a solution of Derby herbicide, proceed as follows:

  1. Measure out the required volume of the drug, depending on the crop being treated.
  2. Fill a third of the tank with clean water.
  3. The drug itself is infused.
  4. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Bring to full volume and mix again.
Important! Derby herbicide solution can only be used in quantities that can realistically be used at one time. It cannot be poured into sewers or bodies of water and cannot be stored for long periods of time.

Instructions for use of Derby herbicide

Treatment with the drug is carried out during the period of active growth of weeds. Optimal weather is without strong wind or rain, moderately warm or cool (range 10-25 degrees). The best period for spraying is at the stage of 2-8 leaves, when dicotyledonous weeds are most sensitive to the toxic effects of the components of the Derby herbicide.

The consumption rate is from 200 to 400 liters per 1 hectare. In the case of aerial treatment, the norm is 50 liters per hectare. Treatment method: spraying. The procedure is carried out once per season. You can choose the following dates:

  1. During tillering and before the second internode phase.
  2. The early stages of the growing season are from two to four leaves.

The drug is used for processing grains

After the spring procedure, winter crops, for example, rapeseed, can be sown in the same fall. Next spring, treatment is carried out without restrictions. If reseeding is necessary, corn, sorghum, spring and grain crops can be planted in the same area.

Important! Derby herbicide cannot be used on grain plantings with legumes, for example, alfalfa or clover.

Speed and duration of exposure

Derby herbicide is effective within the first days after treatment.However, the maximum effect is noticeable after 2-3 weeks. At this time, tissues on the surface of leaves and stems die off in weeds, and root growth is also inhibited. This leads to yellowing of the veins, chlorosis. A month later, complete death occurs.

In the case of individual grasses, the effect of Derby herbicide occurs more quickly. For example, on particularly sensitive types of weeds, the Derby herbicide acts within 2-3 days. And signs of complete death, depending on weather conditions, appear after 7-20 days (the warmer it is outside, the faster).

The protective effect lasts for 2-3 weeks, maximum one month after treatment. The reason is due to the fact that the components of Derby herbicide are quickly absorbed by the root system and do not actually remain in the soil. As for the waiting period, it is 60 days. This is exactly how long it should take from the last spraying to harvesting.

Attention! When processing, it is important to take into account that the protective effect begins at 7-10 degrees Celsius. This allows Derby herbicide to be applied even in cool conditions.

Compatibility with other tools

One of the important characteristics of Derby herbicide is its compatibility with other drugs. The product combines well with most pesticides, including fungicides and insecticides, which include:

  • fenoxaprop-P-ethyl;
  • chlortoluron;
  • dichlorfop-methyl;
  • clodinafop-propargyl;
  • isoproturon.

The herbicide can also be used with various fertilizers. If a substance produces an acidic or alkaline environment, it is recommended to conduct a chemical compatibility test before preparing the tank mixture. If the medium is neutral, preliminary reactions are not necessary.

Security measures

In terms of danger, Derby belongs to the third class - the drug is slightly toxic to humans and bees

During solution preparation and processing, certain safety precautions must be observed:

  1. Wear gloves and a mask.
  2. Do not eat, drink or smoke during treatment.
  3. Restrict access to children and pets.
  4. Carry out spraying in the absence of strong wind.
  5. Do not allow the drug to come into contact with the skin - if such a case occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  6. If the Derby herbicide solution gets into your eyes, rinse with a gentle stream of water.
  7. If ingested, take several tablets of activated carbon, chew them and drink water. If symptoms of acute poisoning occur, be sure to consult a doctor.
  8. If the treatment is carried out next to the greenhouse, close the windows and doors.

Analogs of herbicide Derby

Derby contains two active ingredients at once, so it does not have many analogues. The main herbicide is Veyron. It contains the same substances, but the concentration is slightly different:

  • flumetsulam in a dosage of 120 g per 1 liter;
  • florasulam in the amount of 80 g per 1 liter.

Veyron is a direct analogue of Derby

This product is also designed to protect cereals from a wide range of dicotyledonous weeds.

Conclusion

Derby herbicide is one of the best means for protecting against tenacious bedstraw and other dicotyledonous weeds. It is used for processing at different stages, but it must be taken into account that the waiting period is two months. The product is quite effective, so it is popular among farmers.

Reviews about the drug Derby

Lyuberetsky Mikhail, 58 years old, Stavropol
Derby is an effective drug. I would advise applying it once upon spring shoots in the 4-5 leaf phase.The product is powerful, one treatment is enough. The rules of application are standard - in calm weather. It's better if it's not too much
Belozerov Maxim, 49 years old, Kazan
Herbicide Derby is quite effective. The cost is normal and is used sparingly. I do the processing in early May and you can forget about bedstraw, quinoa, cornflowers and other “delights”. I do not carry out repeated treatments in the same season. But even without them, you can safely sow winter crops in the fall. Review text
