Bendrik's Cream tomato is a variety obtained by a Chernigov breeder on his own plot. The mid-early indeterminate tomato has captivated gardeners in Ukraine and Russia with its high yield, excellent taste and universal purpose of the fruit.
History of appearance
Gardeners learned about the new variety in 2014. Bendrik’s Cream is the fruit of many years of breeding work by a national specialist from Gorodnya (Chernigov region, Ukraine). Organizer – Alexander Nikolaevich Bendrik. He used the De Barao variety as parent material. After which the red mother bush began to bear yellow fruits.
In the second generation, the yield increased significantly. From the “father” the tomato received the taste, shape, and yellow color of the fruit; the “mother” endowed the plant with resistance to sunburn and late blight, and high shelf life of the berries.
Description of the tomato variety Bendrik's Cream
Bendrick's Cream tomato is not a hybrid variety, so there is no need to buy seed material every year. The plant is tall, reaches 100-150 cm, semi-spreading. Requires gartering to a support, needs regular pinching. The leaves have a regular shape and are colored juicy green. The foliage and branching of the bush is average.
Plum-shaped fruits. The berries are colored red and yellow, there is no green spot on the stalk. The weight of tomatoes ranges from 80-120 g. The tomatoes are fleshy; after ripening, they can remain on the bush and not fall off for several more weeks. There are few seeds in the fruits.
Characteristics of Bendrik's Cream tomato
Tomatoes of the Slivka Benderika variety are suitable for cultivation in open ground and under film. If agrotechnical standards are followed, the plant produces a bountiful harvest.
Productivity and fruiting period
The number of fruits in one cluster is from 15 to 30 pcs. Most of the berries are produced on the first and second clusters.
Resistance to diseases and pests
The Bendrik's Cream tomato has a high immunity to late blight, but preventive measures will not harm the bushes. It is not recommended to water the bushes in cold weather. To retain moisture in the soil longer, the beds are mulched with nettle, burdock or celandine.
Methods of application (briefly, 4-5 sentences)
This variety of tomato is universal. The fruits are suitable for all types of processing; their shape and size are convenient for preservation. Bendrik's cream is used to make juices, ketchups, and sauces.Tomatoes do not lose their taste and beneficial microelements when frozen, dried and dried.
Advantages and disadvantages
Tomatoes of this variety are thick-walled. They tolerate transportation well and retain their presentation for a long time.
Pros:
- immunity to most diseases that affect tomatoes;
- tomatoes picked at the stage of milk ripeness can be stored for several months;
- high productivity;
- versatility of application;
- extended fruiting;
- high germination of planting material.
Minuses:
- the need for stepsoning;
- the taste is not up to par with salad.
Features of planting and care
Tomatoes of the Bendrik Cream variety are recommended to be cultivated in seedlings. The author himself plants tomatoes in two terms. This helps extend the fruiting period.
Sowing seedlings
Sowing of seedlings is carried out in early April. If the gardener collected the seed material himself, it should be tested in a solution of table salt. Those seeds that have settled to the bottom are suitable for sowing; empty specimens float to the surface.
The soil mixture is collected in low boxes. Pre-germinated seeds are laid out on the surface of the soil, 1-1.5 cm apart from each other. After which the planting material is sprinkled with soil and moistened. The containers are covered with film and placed on the windowsill. On cloudy days, seedlings are illuminated.
In the phase of 3-4 leaves, seedlings are planted in separate containers. Bendrik is transplanted to a permanent location in mid-May. If there is a threat of frost, the plantings are covered with film or agrofibre.You should first harden the seedlings by taking them outside and increasing the residence time daily.
Planting in open ground
Legumes are considered the best predecessors. At the beginning of May, before planting seedlings, the site is dug up, but organic fertilizers are not applied.
The author of the variety recommends leaving 25-30 cm between bushes, 100-120 cm between rows. In this span, Bendrik sows onions and carrots, which protect each other from flies. Row spacing must be mulched. To protect plants from excess moisture, the protection is removed at the end of the season.
Watering
Alexander Nikolaevich refused to water tomato seedlings. He believes that evening irrigation of seedlings leads to late blight. The only watering that Bendrick does is when planting seedlings in the ground. The tomato root itself will find moisture and take as much as it needs.
If there is heavy rain at the time of ripening, to prevent the fruits from cracking, the author of the variety recommends cutting off the lateral roots. Having retreated 15 cm from the trunk, it is necessary to drive a shovel into the ground to the full depth of the bayonet. This should be done to the right and left of the main stem.
Stepsonning, garter
Bendrik's plum is recommended to be grown in a single stem. Stepchildren should be broken off every week, as they delay the ripening of the crop. It is better to break them off in the morning so that the wounds heal before evening. It is also necessary to remove 2-3 lower leaves every week. By the end of the season, the bush should have a few leaves at the top.
Weeding, loosening
In regions with arid climates, weeding is carried out every week.In areas where it rains frequently, the soil is loosened after each rainfall.
Feeding
The author believes that overfed plants get sick more often and increase green mass to the detriment of the harvest. Bendrick does not recommend applying either organic or mineral fertilizers. Instead of fertilizing, he uses green manure and mulch.
Pest and disease control
In rainy weather, if agrotechnical standards are violated, the variety can be affected by:
- root rot (leads to wilting of the bush);
- mosaic (appears on fruits as red and green spots);
- brown rot (dark spots form on shoots and leaves).
To prevent diseases in the greenhouse, you should regularly ventilate the room and maintain temperature conditions. The disease should be combated with the use of fungicides Quadris, Ridomil, Fundazol.
It is better to prevent diseases than to treat them. To stimulate the immune system, it is recommended to treat tomatoes with Mikohelp and Mikosan-B. The gardener regulates the frequency of use himself, in accordance with the instructions. In regions where precipitation occurs frequently, treatment is carried out every week.
Of the harmful insects, Bendrik's Cream can suffer from aphids, thrips, mole crickets, and slugs. It is recommended to combat them with a solution of ground mustard or pepper. Insecticides are used against the invasion of the Colorado potato beetle.
Conclusion
Bendrik's Cream tomato is an unpretentious variety whose fruits are widely used in cooking. Tomatoes are suitable for growing on an industrial scale because, in addition to high yields, they have good shelf life and can withstand transportation well.
