History of appearance

The tomato variety was approved for use in 2021, but it was created back in 2019. The originator is Vasily Blokin-Mechtalin. In the State Register of the Russian Federation it is listed under number 8057733. Interestingly, the creator and originator of the Violet Heart variety is the host of the program “Country Life and Estate”.

Important! The director of the large domestic seed-growing agro-industrial complex “Agrofirm Partner” (the village of Gory, Moscow region) does not have an agricultural education. People call him “Kolomensky Michurin” and “The most fashionable agronomist in Russia.”

The young enterprise (2020) and its director already have many varieties with high yields and resistance to diseases characteristic of tomatoes.

To disinfect tomato seeds, a weak solution of potassium permanganate is usually used.

The variety is mid-season in terms of ripening. From the appearance of the first harvests to the receipt of the first harvest, 111-115 days pass.

Tomato yield Purple heart

The yield of the variety is high; when grown in protected soil, you can get 25 kg from 1 square meter, from polycarbonate greenhouses - 18 kg.

Attention! When planting in open ground, you can count on 18-20 kg, depending on the climate and compliance with care rules. Tomatoes respond well to fertilizers and watering.

Disease resistance

The variety resists well common diseases inherent in tomatoes. They can easily cope with stressful situations. However, tomatoes require all the preventive measures characteristic of their “brothers”.

It is useful to use irrigation with a mixture of water and whey to prevent parasites.

Where is it grown?

Tomatoes are suitable for growing in greenhouses, under film covers and even in open ground. Suitable regions are the North Caucasus, Western and Eastern Siberia, Northern and Central districts of Russia, Far Eastern, Lower Volga, Middle Volga regions.

Methods of application

The main purpose of Purple Heart tomatoes is to be consumed fresh. However, tomatoes are ideal for processing and canning. They make delicious tomato juice, pasta, and sauces. They are very tasty if preserved in their own juice.

Advantages and disadvantages

In addition to the pleasant taste and unique color, Purple Heart tomatoes have many advantages.

Before planting seeds, it is recommended to lay a layer of eggshells on the bottom of the container, which will serve as calcium supplement and drainage.

Pros:

  • the fruits do not burst;
  • high productivity;
  • large fruit;
  • varietal tomatoes, so you can collect seed material yourself;
  • high transportability;
  • are stored for 1.5-2 weeks in a cool place without loss of taste.

Minuses:

  • You can experience the full flavor only when the tomatoes are fully ripened on the bush.

Landing dates and rules

The seedlings are moved to a permanent place when the average daily air temperature does not fall below +16 °C. Depending on the growing region, the optimal planting date is from late May to early June. The recommended density is no more than three bushes per 1 square meter. Planting pattern – 40x70 cm.

Before replanting, if the land was used to grow other crops, it must be enriched.About seven days before transferring tomato seedlings, it is recommended to fertilize the soil with a solution of chicken manure, which is an excellent alternative to mineral fertilizers.

The day before, you can add superphosphate. But at this stage, as a preventive measure for late blight, it is better not to use ready-made compounds, but to add pre-prepared eggshells to the holes.

About 60 g of shell is placed in one hole

In open ground, it is better to plant tomatoes in a well-lit area. Purple Heart tomatoes prefer soft loam with plenty of organic matter.

Important! Tomatoes will not produce a harvest and may even die if the soil is acidic and too wet.

Neutral predecessors, for example, cucumbers and onions, should grow on the site before tomatoes. They cannot be planted in places where strawberries, potatoes, and peppers were grown last season.

How to properly care

The plant should be formed into 1-2 stems. If you leave one shoot, the fruits of the Purple Heart variety will be larger, but in smaller quantities than with two. All hands are required to be gartered.

It is recommended to water tomatoes according to the standard scheme. After irrigation, weeding and loosening of the soil are necessary. Mulching is carried out as needed if there is a risk of roots freezing.

Important! Feed the bushes 3-4 times throughout the season.

Disease and pest control

Purple Heart tomatoes are resistant to all tomato diseases, but prevention will not harm them. When growing in a greenhouse, irrigation with sodium and potassium humate is recommended during the formation of buds and flowers. The product will strengthen the plant’s immunity and improve productivity. Fungicides are recommended to prevent fungal diseases.

Important! The greenhouse must be ventilated regularly. The procedure stimulates pollination and prevents the development of pathogenic bacteria.

When growing in open ground, it is important to promptly disinfect garden equipment. After harvesting all crops and removing plant residues, it is treated with a solution of chloroethanol or Karbofos. Preventive measures in the garden are carried out similarly to those in the greenhouse.

Regardless of the growing method, it is recommended to disinfect tomato seeds of the Purple Heart variety before planting. They are the ones who most often act as carriers of most diseases.

When growing seedlings, you should not give them too much light; if there is too much light, the fruits will not set.

Conclusion

Tomato Purple Heart is a new product on the Russian market. Tomatoes have an interesting color and pleasant taste, are undemanding in care and resistant to diseases. They can be grown in a greenhouse, under cover and in open ground, and you can collect the seeds for the next season yourself.

Reviews from gardeners about the Purple Heart tomato

Irina Starokon, Kislovodsk
This year I planted Purple Heart tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. I really liked the appearance, I surprised all my friends all summer. A neighbor even asked for seeds. Next year I hope to grow seedlings from my seeds.
Dina Gribova, Angarsk
I often experiment in my greenhouse with what varieties of tomatoes I have not grown before. The purple heart was a pleasant surprise, the fruits are very original, color and shape, and also have a pleasant taste. They look very nice in a salad. I didn’t try canning, since I only planted 10 bushes; my grandchildren ate the entire harvest fresh – for good measure.
