It is unknown which species served as the basis for the Children's Sweet tomato. But the result obtained fully met expectations.

After successful variety trials, the tomato was included in the State Register in 2011.

Description of the tomato variety Children's sweetness

The variety is determinate, so its main stem eventually ends in a flower raceme, which leads to growth arrest. The height of the Children's Sweet tomato bushes varies between 50-60 cm. This tomato is a compact plant, slightly branched.

During the period of fruit ripening, the stems bend toward the ground, and due to the high yield, they can break under their weight. Therefore, it is recommended to tie the bushes to a support. The leaves are standard in shape, medium in size, bright green with a glossy surface. The tomato inflorescence is simple, the stalk is articulated.

The first flower cluster is formed above the 6-7th leaf, and then every 1-2. Each of them subsequently forms from five to seven ovaries.

Important! The tomato needs to remove the stepsons before the first flower cluster, which allows it to show high productivity in the future.

The variety belongs to the cocktail category. Therefore, it produces small fruits, weighing between 50-70 g. The shape of tomatoes is ovoid. Ripe tomatoes acquire a rich red hue without a white spot at the stalk.

The skin of tomatoes is dense, smooth, but at the same time thin, almost imperceptible. The taste is balanced, sweetish, with a small amount of sourness. Inside each tomato there are 2-3 seed chambers.

Characteristics of tomato Children's sweetness

Tomato yield Children's sweets

The variety is capable of producing up to 6 kg of fruit per 1 sq. m. However, this indicator directly depends on the correct care of it throughout the growing season.

Important! In the case of increased nitrogen content in the soil, the bushes intensively increase green mass, which negatively affects the ovary.

Resistance to diseases and pests

Tomato variety Children's Sweetness, according to the characteristics and description of the variety, is immune to common crop diseases such as fusarium, verticillium wilt and blossom end rot. This tomato is also not susceptible to late blight because it has a short growing season. By the time the disease develops, the bushes have time to yield almost the entire harvest. However, this does not negate the preventive treatment of seed material and soil before planting tomatoes, which will maintain their immunity at a high level.

If the growing conditions are not met, a tomato can be affected by aphids and whiteflies.

Where is it grown?

Features of growing tomatoes Children's sweets

This variety is recommended to be grown in seedlings. This makes it possible to get the harvest much earlier than by direct sowing in the ground. By the time the seedlings are planted in a permanent place, their age should be 50-55 days. Therefore, it is recommended to plant the Children's Sweet tomato in early to mid-March.

To do this, you will need to prepare wide containers, 15-20 cm high, with drainage holes and fill them with a loose nutrient substrate consisting of turf, sand, humus and leaf soil in a ratio of 2:1:1:1. The recommended planting depth is 0.5-1 cm.After sowing, the soil mixture must be well moistened and the containers covered with film or glass, and then transferred to a dark, warm place with a temperature of +22-23 °C.

If all conditions are met, friendly sprouts appear within 5-7 days. Then the containers should be moved to a bright windowsill, the maintenance regime should be reduced to +18-20 °C and the daylight hours should be ensured for at least 12 hours. When the sprouts become stronger, they need to be adapted to external conditions and the film or glass removed.

At the stage of two true leaves, the seedlings of Children's Sweetness must be planted in separate containers, and after 10 days the first fertilizing with Kemira Lux or nitroammophos should be carried out. Caring for seedlings of the variety at home also involves dosed watering at the root as the top layer of soil dries out.

Important! During the first three weeks, seedling growth will be slow, which is normal for this variety.

It is recommended to plant tomatoes in a greenhouse at the end of April or early May, and in open ground only at the end of spring. When planting, it is necessary to bury the seedling down to the first leaves, which stimulates the development of a powerful root system. Afterwards, it is recommended to immediately install a strong support near each plant for further tying them up.

Recommended planting scheme for tomato: 5-6 pcs. per 1 sq. m

The Children's sweet variety does not require complex care. Tomatoes need to be watered 1-2 times a week, soaking the soil up to 20 cm. In this case, irrigation is carried out at the root to prevent moisture from getting on the leaves.

The variety needs dosed feeding. It is recommended to fertilize it during the formation of bushes, using organic matter and mineral mixtures with a high nitrogen content, as well as during flowering and ovary, using phosphorus-potassium preparations.

It is also necessary to ensure that the root system of tomatoes does not dry out during hot periods. To do this, peat mulch up to 3 cm thick should be laid at the base of the bushes.

Pest and disease control

Tomato variety Children's sweetness does not need protection from diseases. But in case of prolonged cool weather, it is recommended to treat the bushes with fungicides 1-2 times. To do this, it is necessary to use drugs such as Ridomil Gold, Quadris.

Important! It is recommended to alternate fungicides during repeated treatments to prevent pathogens from becoming accustomed to their action.

If bushes are damaged by aphids or whiteflies, it is worth using protection products such as Fitoverm and Teppeki.

The best prevention of diseases and pests is proper crop care

Conclusion

The Children's Sweet tomato belongs to the category of varieties that are capable of showing good results without causing much trouble to the gardener. And the compactness of its bushes and the accelerated growing season make it possible to grow this species even in small areas and in short summer conditions.

Reviews from gardeners about the tomato Children's sweetness

Marina Smekhova, Ryazan
good harvest. The tomatoes have a pleasant sweetish taste, but there is a slight sourness. The fruits were used for preservation. They withstood the hot marinade perfectly and remained intact. I also use the harvest fresh, but the taste of the variety is significantly inferior to salad tomatoes.
Irina Kurgan, Podolsk
I have been growing children's sweets for the last five years to get an early harvest. I collect the seeds myself, but in the last season I noticed that the varietal properties were lost, so it is better to renew the planting material. I use the harvest mainly for processing. I like the variety for its early ripening and unpretentiousness. I consider it one of the most reliable, since it manages to produce the harvest before late blight appears.
