Blackcurrant variety Sinegorye: photo and description

Currant Sinegorye is a new product on the market of fruit crops. The variety was bred in the Southern Urals, therefore it is perfectly adapted to a number of unfavorable factors. The Sinegorye currant is self-fertile, attractive with large berries with a harmonious taste, and produces a good harvest.

History of selection

Black currant Sinegorye was bred quite recently - in 2018. The selection work was carried out by specialists from the Scientific and Production Association “Gardens of Russia” (Chelyabinsk region). The novelty was obtained from the black currant Oriana - a complex hybrid descended from four different varieties at once, including Pamyati Vavilov and Zagadka, listed in the State Register of the Russian Federation. The name Sinegorye was given in honor of the ridge, which is part of the Ural Mountains.

We got a new product from reseeding Oriana seedlings. They purposefully chose the most unfavorable place for them, deliberately infecting the area with powdery mildew and anthracnose. Bushes were planted in the neighborhood that were severely damaged by bud mites. Such aggressive conditions were created specifically to obtain high resistance to them.The strongest seedlings were used and among them the most productive and large-fruited ones were selected.

Description of black currant Sinegorye with photo

Currant Sinegorye comes from the Oriana variety, and therefore is similar to it in many ways. This also applies to appearance.

Bush

Currant Sinegorye is a medium-growing variety. The spreading bushes reach 1-1.2 m in height. The shoots look like this:

  • straight shape;
  • thickness is moderate;
  • grayish-ashy color;
  • The leaves are medium in size, three-lobed in shape, deep emerald in color;
  • there are sparse teeth on the edges of the plates, the front part is smooth, and the back part has large veins;
  • The size of the flowers is medium, the color is yellowish.

Flowers bloom in mid-May. By this time, the buds are usually no longer afraid of spring frosts.

Comment! There is a risk of branches lodging due to the weight of ripe berries. Timely installation of supports is necessary.

Berries

Currant Sinegorye is a large-fruited variety. The mass of its berries is 3.5-4 g. They look like this:

  • regular spherical shape;
  • the skin is thin but durable;
  • the surface is shiny;
  • color black;
  • dry tear;
  • pronounced aroma;
  • juicy pulp, greenish color.

The cluster can contain up to ten fruits. They are located quite freely, which makes harvesting easier.

Sinegorye black currant berries, when fully ripe, are quite one-dimensional - this simplifies harvesting and improves presentation

Characteristics of the variety

To obtain a new variety, the best seedlings that were resistant to various negative factors were selected. This largely determined the characteristics of the Sinegorye currant.

Taste qualities

The fruits of black currant Sinegorye have a balanced sweet and sour taste. They contain more than 8% sugars and 3.3 times less acids.Berries are not only tasty, but also healthy. Per 100 g there are about 200 mg of ascorbic acid.

Ripening time

Currant Sinegorye is a mid-late variety. The harvest is harvested in the first ten days of August. When the summer is warm, ripening can begin 1.5-2 weeks earlier. The variety is self-fertile and therefore does not require pollinators.

Productivity

Sinegorye currants begin to bear fruit in the third year of life. Up to 5-6 kg of berries are harvested from the bush at the age of 3-4 years. They mature together. The culture reaches maximum productivity in 1-2 years.

Frost resistance

Black currant Sinegorye was bred in the Southern Urals. The harsh conditions of the region provided this variety with good winter hardiness. The culture can withstand frosts down to -40 °C. If the winter temperature does not exceed this limit, then the bushes do not require shelter.

The variety tolerates lack of moisture well. It is not prone to fruit shedding, but the berries become smaller in such conditions.

Disease resistance

When breeding Sinegorye currants, the seedlings were “given” harsh conditions and only the strongest specimens were selected. This provided the variety with high resistance at the genetic level to a number of diseases and pests:

  • powdery mildew;
  • wet rot;
  • spotting;
  • kidney mite

Advantages and disadvantages

Sinegorye currant berries are transportable due to their strong skin and dry peel. In a cool place (+5-7 °C) the shelf life is up to two weeks.

Sinegorye currant fruits are good fresh, but they have a universal purpose

Pros:

  • large fruits;
  • one-dimensional berries;
  • high productivity;
  • no tendency to shedding;
  • self-fertility;
  • good taste;
  • good transportability;
  • universal purpose;
  • high frost resistance;
  • immunity to a number of diseases and pests;
  • resistance to adverse climatic conditions;
  • the berries gel well.

Minuses:

  • chopping fruits due to lack of moisture;
  • branches are overloaded with ripe berries - without supports they can break.
Comment! The need to install supports makes mechanized harvesting of Sinegorye currants impossible.

Landing rules

For Sinegorye currants, an open sunny area is allocated, which is not flooded by melting snow in the spring. Fertility and breathability are important for the soil. The reaction is better neutral, slightly alkaline is acceptable. If the soil is acidic, add dolomite flour two weeks in advance - 1 kg per 3 m².

The landing algorithm is simple:

  1. Prepare planting holes with a diameter of 0.5 m at intervals of 1.2-1.5 m.
  2. Organize drainage - 2-3 cm of crushed stone.
  3. To the fertile soil add compost (rotted manure can be used) and river sand in ½ part, complex granular fertilizer (volume according to instructions), 1 liter of wood ash.
  4. Fill the hole with water.
  5. Place the seedling at an angle of 45°, straightening the roots.
  6. Cover with soil, gradually compacting. The seedling is buried 5-9 cm lower than it grew in the nursery.
  7. Water generously.
  8. Trim, leaving 25 cm of height.
Comment! Planting in the shade slows down growth, increases the risk of disease, and is fraught with a lack of fruiting.

Sinegorye currants can be planted in April-May or September, in the summer only with a closed root system

Features of care

In summer, Sinegorye currants are watered once a week if the period is dry or fruiting has begun. A 10-liter bucket of water is used per bush. Moisturizing is required every 5-7 days.

When growing Sinegorye currants, it is necessary to apply fertilizers.It is better to use minerals in the fall, adding them before digging. Nitrogen is used only in spring. During the season, it is recommended to use natural organic matter.

Comment! You should not organize compost heaps near Sinegorye currants. Thick ash infusions, mineral concentrates, and slurry are not recommended for fertilization.

Sinegorye currant pruning needs more sanitary pruning. Thickening of bushes is fraught with diseases, crushing of berries, and their shedding. The branches take 3-5 years to bear fruit, so the old ones need to be cut out. Leave 18-20 shoots:

  • three pieces at the age of 1-2 years;
  • 4 – 3 and 5 years;
  • 2 – 6-7 years.

All sections are immediately treated with garden varnish. To prevent the branches from falling down under the weight of the crop, it is necessary to install supports in advance.

To prepare for winter, only autumn digging with the application of fertilizers and mulching is required. A layer of 15 cm is sufficient.

Among the pests of Sinegorye currants, aphids are the most annoying. She is attracted mainly by young growth. The following drugs are used to control the pest:

  • Biotlin;
  • Fitoverm;
  • Decis Profi;
  • Confidor;
  • Karbofos;
  • Tanrek;
  • Aktara.

To prevent aphids, it is important to fight the ants that attract them.

Conclusion

Currant Sinegorye is a large-fruited, productive variety with high resistance to a number of diseases, bud mites and unfavorable climatic conditions. When growing, be sure to organize supports. The berries are suitable for transportation.

Reviews from gardeners about black currant Sinegorye

Marina Novoseltseva, Moscow
I planted Sinegorye currants in 2019. Last year there were only a few berries, but it is already clear that they are large and have a pleasant taste. The bushes survived the winter well.
Evgeny Baranov, Chelyabinsk
I got the Sinegorye currant back in 2018 from a friend. Last year I got my first harvest. The berries are large, there are ten in a cluster, about the same size. So far we have collected only for food, we will try to process it.

Comments
  1. My “Sinegorye” did not survive the winter.
