Raspberry Polesie

The remontant Polesie raspberry was bred in Poland in 2006. The variety is intended for farms and private farms. The popularity of Polesie raspberries is explained by its unpretentiousness, productivity and affordable cost of planting material. When growing a variety, the planting location, natural light, and the supply of moisture and nutrients are important.

Features of the variety

Description of the Polesie raspberry variety:

  • remontant look;
  • early maturation;
  • harvesting from the end of July to the first days of October;
  • moderate raspberry growth;
  • medium-sized plant;

  • sweet and sour taste.

The yield from the Polesie variety bush is up to 4.5 kg. It is recommended to remove ripe berries regularly. When left on the shoots for a long time, the fruits darken.

The Polesie variety is used for cultivation in garden plots and farms. Jams, jams, and compotes are made from the berries. The fruits are highly transportable and suitable for freezing.Overripe berries should be processed quickly; their shelf life is limited.

The frost resistance of the Polesie variety is assessed as high. Plants tolerate frosty winters well under snow cover. In its absence, additional shelter is required.

Planting raspberries

Polesie raspberries are planted in a suitable area. When choosing a place to grow a variety, light, soil composition, and the location of groundwater are taken into account. Seedlings are purchased from trusted suppliers or obtained independently from the mother bush.

Reproduction of the variety

When purchasing a Polesie raspberry seedling, the root system is assessed. In strong bushes, the roots do not have defects and are not overdried, and there are buds on the shoots. The thickness of the shoots at the base is approximately 5 cm, the height of the plant is 30 cm.

Remontant raspberry seedlings are obtained independently in one of the following ways:

  • root suckers;
  • cuttings;
  • dividing the bush.

The Polesie variety is characterized by slow shoot formation. Most planting material can be obtained from bushes aged 4-5 years.

In summer, root shoots up to 10 cm high are selected. They are dug up and transferred to a separate bed. The plants are regularly looked after: watered, fed, protected from the sun. After rooting, the bushes are transplanted to a permanent place.

To propagate the Polesie variety by cuttings, in the fall, dig up raspberry rhizomes and cut them into strips 10 cm long. The cuttings are buried in a trench, watered and mulched the soil. Next year sprouts will appear, which are watered and fed throughout the season. In the fall, raspberries are ready to be planted in a permanent place.

Remontant varieties are grown in one place for no more than 12 years. When transplanting, the bushes are divided to produce new plants. The sections are treated with charcoal.

Site preparation

Remontant raspberries are demanding in terms of where they are grown. For a raspberry garden, select an area that is well lit by the sun and protected from the wind.

In the southern regions, the Polesie variety is provided with partial shade. Under constant exposure to the sun, the berries bake and lose their appearance and taste.

Groundwater must be at a depth of more than 1 m so that the root system is not affected by it. To plant Polesie raspberries, choose a site located on a hill or with a slight slope.

Important! Raspberries are not planted after potatoes, tomatoes and peppers. Crops are susceptible to similar diseases and pests.

Before planting Polesie raspberries, it is recommended to grow mustard or lupine on the plot. 1-2 months before work, the plants are buried in the ground. Green manure enriches the soil with nutrients.

Instead of green manure, when digging up the soil, also add 3 buckets of compost per 1 square meter. m. From mineral fertilizers, add 200 g of complex fertilizer containing potassium and phosphorus.

Work order

Raspberries of the Polesie variety are planted in the fall at the end of September or in the spring before the buds open. The sequence of work does not depend on the timing of planting.

Procedure for planting raspberries Polesie:

  1. Prepare planting holes with a depth of 50 cm and a size of 45x45 cm. Leave 70 cm between the bushes.
  2. The roots of the seedling are dipped in a growth stimulator for 2 hours.
  3. The plant is placed in the planting hole. The root collar is left, the roots are sprinkled with earth.
  4. Raspberries are watered abundantly.
  5. The soil is mulched with humus.

Young plants need special care. As the soil dries, moisture is added. For the winter, raspberries are insulated using covering material.

Variety care

Polesie raspberries are cared for by watering and fertilizing.To get a good harvest, shoots are pruned. Preventative treatments will help protect plantings from diseases and pests.

Raspberries of the Polesie variety are grown without tying if the plants are not exposed to wind and rain. To organize the support, several metal or wooden planks are installed. Two levels of wire are pulled between them.

Watering

By raspberry reviews Polesie is sensitive to lack of moisture. Its deficiency leads to a reduction in the number of ovaries, withering of leaves and fruits.

When watering, it is important to ensure that moisture does not stagnate in the soil. The soil should be wet to a depth of 40 cm. For watering, choose morning or evening time.

On average, Polesie raspberries are watered every week. During drought, moisture is added more often; in rainy weather, you can do without watering.

Advice! To retain moisture, the soil is mulched with humus or peat.

After watering the Polesie raspberries, loosening is performed. Plant roots will have access to oxygen and will better absorb nutrients.

Feeding

After planting, when applying fertilizers, Polesie raspberries begin to be fed in the third year. In early spring, plants are watered with mullein solution in a ratio of 1:20. The fertilizer is enriched with nitrogen, which promotes the appearance of new shoots.

Throughout the season, Polesie raspberries are fed with minerals:

  • 50 g superphosphate;
  • 40 g potassium sulfate.

Intervals of 3 weeks are made between procedures. When it gets colder, spraying is done so that the raspberries quickly absorb the nutrients. For leaf processing, the fertilizer content is reduced by 2 times.

In the fall, wood ash is scattered between the rows of raspberries. The fertilizer contains potassium, calcium and other trace elements.

Trimming

In autumn, it is recommended to prune Polesie raspberries at the root. Then in the summer they get one abundant harvest, reducing the likelihood of the spread of diseases.

Pruning helps maintain the viability of the bush. In the spring, new branches will grow, on which the harvest will ripen.

Important! Be sure to remove dry and frozen raspberry shoots.

If you leave annual shoots, the bushes can be harvested twice per season. With this treatment, the plant is subjected to increased stress.

Diseases and pests

According to the manufacturer’s description, the Polesie raspberry variety is characterized by average resistance to diseases. By following agricultural practices and proper watering, the risk of disease development is minimized. The choice of high-quality planting material and the disinfection of garden tools help protect the area from diseases.

Raspberries are susceptible to attack by aphids, weevils, beetles, caterpillars, and gall midges. Pests are carriers of diseases and cause direct damage to plantings.

Chemicals are used against insects. Raspberries are processed before buds open and in late autumn after harvesting. To prevent diseases, prepare Bordeaux mixture, a solution of the drug Nitrafen or Karbofos.

For preventive purposes, raspberry plantings are treated with an infusion of onion peels, garlic, and tansy. Plants are sprayed leaf by leaf.

Reviews from gardeners

Karina, 32 years old, Ufa
I planted Polesie raspberries after studying variety descriptions, reviews and photos. I have long been looking for a reliable remontant variety so that the fruits ripen until the end of autumn. Polesie raspberries did not disappoint; the first berries appear in August. The fruits themselves are very large, dark red in color. The harvest ripens on annual branches, so I always prune it in the fall.

I have been growing raspberries for several years, a lot goes for sale. I chose Polesie raspberries based on reviews because of the high yield and high commercial qualities of the berries. In total, I planted about 20 seedlings, of which about 95% took root. The berries have an excellent taste, are large and transportable.

Elena, 56 years old, Ryazan
Based on the description of the variety, reviews and photos, I liked Polesie raspberries. I purchased several seedlings from the nursery and planted them in the garden in the fall. The bushes grew small, no more than 1.5 m high. The first berries had a watery taste. When the bushes grew, the yield increased and the taste of the raspberries improved. The size of the berries is comparable to a small plum. The shoots do not droop under the weight of the crop, but I have a trellis installed for all the raspberries. The Polesie variety has become one of my favorites. For the winter, I definitely cover remontant raspberries.

Conclusion

Polesie raspberries bring an early harvest of tasty and aromatic fruits. The berries are large, have a good taste and are stored for a long time. The variety is suitable for industrial cultivation and planting in private gardens.

Raspberry care Polesie includes watering and fertilizing; shoots are pruned for the winter. To preserve the commercial qualities of the berries, their timely harvesting is required. The fruits have universal use and are suitable for processing and fresh consumption.
