Growing garden plants is not an easy task. It is necessary to take into account the characteristics of each planting, but they can vary significantly. Another thing is the Lovely Lydia rose, which is much less demanding compared to other ornamental crops. Being a product of modern selection, Lovely Lydia inherited not only beautiful flowers, but also good immunity to diseases.
History of variety development
The rose was obtained in the Netherlands, which is sometimes called the “flower country”. This name is justified by the achievements of Dutch scientists. They developed hundreds of ornamental plants and improved the scale and production process itself. The author of the variety is Peter Ilsink, who at that time worked at the Interplant nursery.
Lovely Lydia was discovered in 1995, when modern selection produced not the first masterpieces. This rose is known even outside the country - it can be found in European stores, American gardens and some Russian parks. Culture combines the best qualities. Many consider this rose to be “classic”, thanks to which Lovely Lydia still does not lose its relevance.
Description of rose Lovely Lydia
The variety belongs to the so-called compact group. It grows up to 90 cm in height and up to 45 cm in width. Rose Lovely Lydia owes its decorativeness not to its size, but to the density of its shoots. Dozens of dark green leaves are scattered along the stems.
Rose Lovely (favorite) Lydia has a soft pink hue. This palette is very noticeable against the background of other decorative plantings. From time to time the flower changes tone - a white border appears. The diameter of the flower does not exceed 5 cm. However, the buds are located quite close, which gives the bushes an interesting appearance. From Lovely's side, Lydia is in no way inferior to large-sized roses.
The splendor of the flowers is also due to the large number of petals - about 44 pieces. Thanks to this, the variety fell into the category of densely double. On one stem of Lovely Lydia there are up to 14 inflorescences. The plant has a light aroma, which is beneficial for florists and indoor gardeners.
A distinctive feature of the rose is its long flowering time. With the beginning of the vegetative cycle, the leaves open very quickly, and plant juice rushes to the buds. They are fully formed by the beginning of summer and bloom at about the same time. Flowering lasts until November.

Planting and care
The process of planting Lovely Lydia can be called traditional. However, you need to know some agrotechnical principles in order to grow a strong and beautiful rose. Before starting work, prepare a fertile substrate, which will later fill the planting hole.
The easiest option is to purchase a nutritional mixture in the store. But if you don’t want to spend money on something you can cook with your own hands, follow the following recipe:
- peat;
- river sand;
- chopped wood;
- leaf soil.
The ingredients (in equal proportions) are thoroughly mixed together.
After preparing the substrate, you can begin digging a hole. Its depth should be twice the diameter of the roots. When the hole is ready, do not forget to take care of the drainage pad.
Rose Lovely Lydia is taken by the stem, all the roots are straightened and placed in the planting hole.The pit is filled with the prepared nutrient mixture, after which the area is watered abundantly. By the next evening, mulch is collected and the root zone is covered. Mulching is for roses what a glass is for a person. The material stores water, allowing you to take a “sip” at the right time.
Lovely Lydia prefers to grow in partial shade, so it is advisable to choose a shaded area. The abundance of sunlight affects the decorativeness of flowers, which is why they fade and break off. It is optimal to illuminate the rose for no more than five hours. For the remaining time, Lovely Lydia is hidden in the shade. Rose loves small winds. They play an important role, since dense shoots prevent normal ventilation.
It is better not to plant Lovely Lydia in ravines - the most moisture accumulates there. And fungi love excess phlegm. Flooding harms the rose's immunity, interferes with normal development and contributes to rotting of the root system.
If the area is quite open, you can plant Lovely Lydia next to the house so that it is shaded by the walls. Otherwise, it is necessary to build some kind of object that will hide the planting at the height of the day.
Otherwise, the stock rose Lovely Lydia is no different from other garden crops. It is watered 4-8 times a month, twice as often in summer. This is done in the evening, when the sun no longer stings the withered leaves. Do not water during the day because ultraviolet radiation and wet vegetation enter into an undesirable reaction.
In spring and summer, Lovely Lydia needs feeding. They can be neglected - it will not cause any harm to the plant.However, the number and size of flowers will be reduced, which is bad for most gardeners. Potassium, phosphorus and organic matter are used at different times.
The top of the rose can be trimmed periodically if it is in the way. In the spring, sanitary pruning is carried out.
Reproduction methods
The simplest propagation method is cuttings. Preparations can be made from late spring to September. To do this, choose a long stem and cut it to 20 cm, leaving a few leaves at the top.
Rose Lovely Lydia is placed in water diluted with a growth stimulator. After the roots appear, the cuttings are planted in nutrient soil. It is better to keep a young plant in a greenhouse. If there is no greenhouse, just cover Lovely Lydia with film. After the seedling has adapted, it is transplanted to a permanent place.
Diseases and pests
Floribunda rose Lovely Lydia rarely gets sick. However, situations are different, and sometimes the plant suffers from infections. This may be due to frequent precipitation, poor lighting, poor soil quality, or excessive watering.
Here it is important to monitor the reaction of the rose itself. If it dries out, add water; if it softens, reduce the moisture. Fitosporin is used to fight diseases. This is a fungicidal drug that has a complex effect, saving Lovely Lydia from most diseases.
When a pest is detected, in particular spider mites, folk remedies are used. Insects do not like soap, the strong smell of garlic, or onion skins. If things get really bad, they switch to insecticides.
Application in landscape design
The rose is compact in size, so making it the background is a bad idea.Designers recommend using the full decorative potential of Lovely Lydia and placing it in the foreground. The plant looks great in a flower bed, near the border.
Conclusion
Rose Lovely Lydia is one of the exhibits of the Dutch selection. The bush is unpretentious in care, but agrotechnical prudence should still be observed. Otherwise, there can be no talk of any flowers. Roses are quite winter-hardy for Russia, but it is advisable to cover them for the winter. The exception is the southern part of the country, where the cold season is much less severe.
