Description of clematis Stasik

Clematis Stasik belongs to the large-flowered varieties of clematis. Its main purpose is decorative. Mostly plants of this type are used for weaving various surfaces or structures. Clematis is considered one of the most unpretentious plants that can be grown in central Russia. Next, a description of clematis Stasik will be considered and its photos will be given.

Description of the clematis variety Stasik

Clematis hybrid Stasik is a classic shrub vine with climbing stems about 4 m long. Like most shrub vines, Stasik clings to obstacles and supports with the help of leaf petioles.

The plant is capable of entwining obstacles up to 2 m in height. The stems of the vines are thin and very strong. They are brown in color. The leaves are simple, which is common for the Ranunculaceae family. Trifoliates are occasionally found, but this is most likely the result of chance, depending on environmental conditions, rather than some hereditary trait.

The flowers of the plant are quite large, their diameter ranges from 10 to 12 cm, which is immediately noticeable, given the very thin stems. The flowers open very wide, with the sepals partially overlapping each other, which further enhances their effectiveness and impression. It seems that almost the entire surface of the climbing bush is covered with flowers.

The flowers are star-shaped and have six sepals. Sepals are oval-elongated, slightly pointed at the ends. The sepals are velvety to the touch.

The color of the flowers is cherry at the beginning, later it becomes lighter, turning into violet-red. The underside of the flower has clear white stripes down the center.

The anthers of clematis flowers are dark and purple in color.

Flowering time occurs at the beginning of July.

Important! Clematis Stasik blooms on the shoots of the current year.

There are several classifications of clematis. According to the standard biological classification, Stasik belongs to the Lyutikov family. In addition, among gardeners there are also other classification methods based on the methods of growing these flowers. According to this “intraspecific” classification, the Stasik variety belongs to the late-flowering large-flowered varieties or to the flowers of the Jacquemman group.

The author of the variety is Maria Sharonova, a famous botanist and florist. The variety was developed in 1972 by cross-crossing the Ernest Mahram variety with other large-flowered varieties. The name comes from the name “Stanislav”, which was the name of M. Sharonova’s grandson.

Clematis pruning group Stasik

All varieties and types of clematis, depending on the characteristics of the formation of generative buds of the shoots of this or the previous season, are also classified according to pruning groups.

Clematis Stasik belongs to the third pruning group, which is conventionally considered “strong”. This includes the most densely branching clematis, as well as those in which flowering occurs quite late. This type involves pruning shoots above the second or third pair of buds, which approximately corresponds to a height of 0.2-0.5 m above the soil level.

This type of pruning is used for almost all types of clematis that bloom in summer (which includes Stasik). The main purpose of such pruning is to limit their growth.

In addition, all dead shoots in the immediate vicinity of the plant root, as well as shoots at a height of 5-10 cm, are cut off.

Optimal growing conditions

Clematis Stasik needs moderate lighting. Although this is a light-loving plant, there should not be too much sun in its life. In temperate and northern latitudes it is recommended to plant it on the sunny side, but in the southern regions partial shade is best suited for it.

The plant does not like drafts and open spaces. Moreover, this factor plays a much more important role in winter than in summer. Wind-blown snow from a plant can expose the generative buds, they can freeze, and the clematis will not bloom the next year.

The soil for clematis Stasik should be nutritious and relatively light, with good aeration. The use of heavy clays or loams is highly undesirable. Soil acidity – from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline (pH from 6 to 8).

The plant does not like excess moisture, so it should not be planted in lowlands. In addition, it is desirable that the groundwater level at the clematis planting site should not be higher than 1.2 m. If finding such an area is problematic, care should be taken to drain the clematis planting site.

If it is necessary to “cover” some fairly large area with a carpet of vines, it is best to plant the plants in an even line with a distance of at least 70 cm from each other. In this case, the vines must be placed on a support so that all the leaves are illuminated more or less evenly.

When “covering” the walls of buildings, plants should be planted no closer than 60-70 cm from them. The support in this case can be located directly on the wall.

Important! When planting Stasik near solid metal fences, the support for the plant should not be located too close to it. This can cause heat burns on your clematis.

Clematis is a frost-resistant plant. According to the description of the variety, it can withstand wintering in frost resistance zones from 9 to 4 (that is, from - 7 ° C to - 35 ° C). Such a wide range of temperatures is most likely due to different approaches to preparing the plant for winter. Be that as it may, the plant can be grown even in some northern regions of the middle zone.

Planting and caring for clematis Stasik

Planting of Stasik is carried out in the off-season - in spring or autumn.

Spring planting occurs in late March or early April. In this case, the buds should not bloom. In addition, clematis flowering is not recommended in the year of transplantation. In order to prevent it, the developing buds of the plant are cut off.

Important! Generative buds should be trimmed only after they begin to bloom.

Autumn planting is done at the end of August or September. It needs to be done before the first serious cold snap, so that the seedlings have time to take root, and in the spring the development of the root system begins. If rooting does not occur, the gardener will lose a whole year, and flowering may occur only 1.5 years after planting.Therefore, it is recommended not to delay planting in the fall.

Selection and preparation of a landing site

Preparation of the planting site consists of preliminary application of fertilizers. It is carried out 2-3 months before disembarkation. In the case of spring planting, fertilizer is applied before winter. Humus should be used as fertilizer. No additional preparation is required.

Seedling preparation

For planting, it is recommended to use one- or two-year-old seedlings. The seedlings should first be carefully examined and rejected according to the following parameters:

  • they must have at least three roots with a length of 10 cm;
  • seedlings must have at least 2 strong stems;
  • on each stem - at least two unopened buds (in spring) or three developed buds (in autumn).

The roots of seedlings are dried before planting, and then placed in a bucket of warm water for 6-8 hours. A few ml of rooting agents (Kornevin, Epin, etc.) are added to the water. In case of small seedlings, growth stimulants can be added. Immediately before planting, the root system should be treated with a 0.2% solution of potassium permanganate.

Landing rules

Under the clematis, dig a hole in the form of a cube with an edge of 60 cm. If there are several plants, then dig a trench of the required length with a section of 60x60 cm. At the bottom of the hole or trench, drainage is laid (brick, pebbles, crushed stone, expanded clay, etc.) with a height of no more than 15 cm.

Next, the hole is half filled with soil mixture.

If the soil is loam, then this mixture consists of the following parts, taken in equal proportions:

  • loamy soil;
  • sand;
  • humus.

If the soil is sandy loam, then the composition will be as follows:

  • the soil;
  • peat;
  • humus;
  • sand.

The components are taken in equal proportions.

The soil is first mineralized with 1 liter of wood ash and 100 g of slaked lime per plant.

Next, a mound is made in the center, on which a seedling is placed, the roots of which are straightened. The height of the mound should be such that it does not reach the top layer of soil by 5-10 cm for small seedlings and 10-15 cm for large ones.

After this, the hole is filled in, the soil is leveled and lightly compacted. A support is immediately installed next to the plant.

Watering and fertilizing

The first watering is carried out immediately after planting. Further watering is carried out once every 2-3 days in hot weather and once every 3-5 days in cool weather. Water clematis carefully, pouring water under the root. Watering rates depend on the composition of the soil; after watering, the soil should be slightly moist. Important! Watering is best done in the evening.

Clematis Stasik is fed 4 times per season. At the same time, organic and mineral fertilizers are alternated. The first feeding is done in early spring. The second - during the formation of buds. The third - immediately after flowering. The fourth - in early or mid-September.

Important! It is impossible to feed the plant during flowering, as this significantly shortens the duration of flowering.

Mulching and loosening

To prevent the plant's roots from overheating, and also to control weeds, it is necessary to mulch the soil within a radius of 30-50 cm around it immediately after planting (or in early spring for an adult plant).

Straw, bark, sawdust or grass clippings are used as mulch. On poor soils, mulching with peat is recommended.

Trimming

Stasik belongs to the third pruning group, so it must be pruned quite intensively.In autumn, faded stems are cut off and the first 30 cm of the strongest shoots are left on the plant.

Important! When pruning, at least 2 and no more than 4 buds should remain on the shoots.

To make the plant branch more strongly, it is recommended to pinch the shoots at the beginning of the year. In the first year, this is done immediately after planting and at the beginning of summer.

In order to speed up the onset of flowering, when pruning shoots, their length is left not 30, but 50 cm.

Preparing for winter

For the winter, it is recommended to insulate clematis with sawdust, dry leaves or humus. Sometimes you can use spruce branches or straw. The height of the protective layer is at least 30 cm. In the spring, in order to avoid the plant becoming overgrown, the shelter should be removed at the end of February.

Reproduction

The following methods of propagation of clematis Stasik are mainly used:

  1. Dividing the bush. To do this, you should divide the bush with a shovel, moving the plant with part of the root system with an earthen lump to a new place. Despite such a “barbaric” method of transplantation, the plant adapts perfectly to the new location and quickly begins to bloom.
  2. Reproduction by layering. In spring, the lateral layers are pressed to the ground using staples. The main thing is that there is at least one bud on the continuation of the stem after the staple. It is covered with earth and the next year, when a new stem grows, it is cut off from the mother plant. Then it, along with a lump of earth and its own root system, is transferred to a new place.

Since Stasik is a large-flowered clematis, seed propagation is not used for it.

Diseases and pests

The main diseases characteristic of clematis are fungal diseases (powdery mildew, gray mold, etc.).d.) Methods of their treatment and prevention are standard: treatment with copper-containing preparations once a week until symptoms disappear.

Conclusion

Clematis Stasik is one of the most popular ornamental plants used for weaving large surfaces and large objects. Caring for it is not difficult and is accessible even to novice gardeners. The plant thrives in the middle zone; it can be grown even in climates with frosts down to -35 °C.

Reviews of clematis Stasik

Semenov Dmitry Sergeevich, 50 years old, Voronezh
I have been growing Clematis Stasik for several years. During this time I did not experience any problems with it. An easy to care for and propagate plant with huge beautiful flowers. The flower adapts perfectly to almost any conditions and tolerates even the coldest winters. I recommend it to everyone who appreciates beauty, but at the same time does not like to spend a lot of time with growing ornamental plants.
Petrova Anna Vladimirovna, 40 years old, Pskov
Clematis Stasik is one of the most unpretentious plants I have ever grown. It has been growing on my balcony for several years now, and I haven’t even changed the soil in its pot. Every summer this beautiful flower grows, clinging to the supports on the balcony and creating excellent shade. And there are so many flowers on it that we practically don’t notice the stems. I can say that raising Stasik is very simple and caring for him does not take much time.
