Clematis Omoshiro: photo, pruning group, reviews

Decorativeness is what attracts gardeners to clematis varieties. They are a type of vine and are great for vertical gardening. Clematis Omoshiro has amazingly beautiful inflorescences and is unpretentious to growing conditions. The variety will not only beautify and decorate the area, but can also bring practical benefits. The characteristics of the Omoshiro vine are ideal for Russian regions with risky farming areas.

Description of clematis Omoshiro

Lianas are distinguished by long shoots. These are climbing plants that serve as decorative landscaping plants on the site. The weaving stem can be directed in the desired direction. The popular name of the plant is clematis. The structure of clematis has its own characteristics. The vine has strong leaf petioles, with the help of which it can be held even on a steep vertical plane. The length of shoots of clematis Omoshiro reaches 2-3 m. The main advantage of any variety of vines is flowers.

The Japanese species has soft pink petals, the shade of which changes closer to the edge. The tips are most often pale lilac or pink-purple in color. This makes Omoshiro clematis flowers unusual, and the wavy edges create an original shape.The diameter of the flowers is 14-18 cm, the number of petals is 6-8 pieces, the stamens are on cream-colored threads with purple-red anthers. Flowering of the Omoshiro variety lasts May-June and August-September. In the second period, flowering is slightly weaker.

Russian flower growers have been growing the variety since the end of the 19th century. By decorating an area with a climbing plant, you can give it a very aesthetic appearance. Clematis is used for:

  • marking the boundaries of the territory (only with supports);
  • decorating unsightly buildings, walls or facades;
  • shading of gazebos, terraces, balconies;
  • creating arches, pergolas;
  • framed by rock gardens.

With proper care, the variety looks very impressive. Photos and descriptions of the variety help gardeners properly care for clematis Omoshiro.

Clematis pruning group Omoshiro

Omoshiro belongs to the third group of pruning varietal vines. The difference between such clematis is the ability to form flowers on the shoots of the current year. For the winter, branches are pruned in one of the following ways:

  • to the first sheet (real);
  • to the kidney, the most developed;
  • 20-30 cm from the soil surface.

Gardeners note the advantages of pruning group 3 clematis:

  1. Minimal time investment. All shoots can be trimmed quickly, so such an autumn event does not interfere with the schedule for preparing the garden for winter.
  2. It is convenient to build a shelter for the root zone of Omoshiro clematis.
  3. There is no need to waste effort, material and time to preserve the long branches of clematis.

Planting and caring for clematis Omoshiro

Seedlings are planted in spring and autumn. Gardeners do not give a clear answer to the question of the best time. Although spring planting allows the vine to prepare for winter - to form a powerful root system and develop resistance to diseases. When choosing a planting date, you should consider:

  1. Region.In areas of the southern and central regions, planting can begin very early. And gardeners in the northern regions should wait until the end of April or the beginning of May. In these regions, autumn planting of the Omoshiro variety is not recommended. Climatic conditions will not allow plants to properly prepare for winter.
  2. Root system category. If you purchased clematis Omoshiro with OKS, then it needs to be planted quickly. Seedlings in containers can be grown on a balcony or windowsill until the right time.

Additional nuances of planting clematis Omoshiro:

  1. Spring planting should not be later than the end of May. Otherwise, the plant will not have time to adapt. It is also not recommended to plant the variety before mid-April, so that the seedlings do not fall under return frosts.
  2. Summer planting of the Omoshiro variety is undesirable.
  3. In autumn, the last date for planting the Omoshiro vine is 1-1.5 months before the onset of frost. The deadline is early October. Then the clematis must be covered for the winter.

According to the description of the clematis variety Omoshiro, a place for the vine is chosen that is well-lit and windless. Shade significantly reduces flowering, and strong winds can break shoots and tear off flowers. You should not plant clematis near the roof so that water does not flow onto it, or in low areas. Omoshiro definitely needs support.

The soil is prepared fertile, alkaline, well structured.

Stages of planting clematis Omoshiro:

  1. Digging a hole for one plant - 60x60x60 cm. For group planting, dig a 60x60 cm trench. The bushes are placed at a distance of 1.5 m from each other.
  2. Laying a drainage layer on the bottom. Expanded clay, crushed stone, broken brick are suitable. Layer thickness 15 cm.
  3. Then a mound of fertile soil is poured. Place a seedling on it and straighten the roots.
  4. The root collar should be at ground level or slightly buried.
  5. Fill the hole or trench, compacting the soil slightly.
  6. Water clematis generously and shade.
Important! You will have to ensure that the roots do not become waterlogged during the spring rains.

The stages of caring for a vine consist of activities familiar to a gardener:

  1. Watering. Omoshiro is demanding about meeting schedules. The liana needs to be watered abundantly during the period of active growth. Completeness and timeliness are the main requirements of clematis for watering. Watering too often is not necessary; it is enough to prevent the soil from drying out completely.
  2. Feeding. A liana planted last year is fed 4 times during the growing season, always after watering. You can use organic and mineral compounds, alternating them with each other. In spring, water the plants with lime milk (200 g per 10 liters of water). In summer, clematis Omoshiro is watered once a month with a solution of potassium permanganate or boric acid in a ratio of 2 g per 10 liters of water. During the flowering period, feeding is stopped.
  3. Weeding. Weeds can reduce the amount of moisture and nutrition for the vine. The root zone of clematis variety Omoshiro needs to be weeded and mulched regularly.
  4. Trimming. They begin to prune Omoshiro clematis according to the rules in the third year of the growing season. Until this time, seedlings of any group are pruned in the same way. Before the onset of cold weather, shoots are completely removed down to one bud. Thus, the plant is stimulated to awaken dormant buds, and the number of lashes increases. If weak growth is observed in the second year, then the radical pruning of the Omoshiro variety is repeated.
  5. Pinching is done at the beginning of summer. For varieties of the third group, pinching is performed for the first time at a height of 10-15 cm from the soil surface.Then repeat when the shoots grow to 20-30 cm, the third and final time - at a height of 40-50 cm.
    Important! Pruning of the Omoshiro variety must be carried out with a sharply sharpened and disinfected tool.
  6. Transfer. The peak of decorativeness occurs when clematis is between 3 and 7 years old. Then the intertwining of roots leads to an increased need for watering and nutrition. Therefore, Omoshiro is rejuvenated once every 7 years.

Another important activity is preparation for the winter period.

Preparing for winter

The Omoshiro variety can withstand frosts down to -23 °C, so shelter is necessary for it. It is important to thoroughly cover the soil around the roots. If this is not done, the soil will become waterlogged in the spring. During night frosts, the water freezes and the ice damages the roots. Clematis begins to cover at the end of October. To do this, use soil and weathered peat. Additionally, a layer of spruce branches is laid.

In the spring, the shelter is gradually removed.

Reproduction

The main methods of propagation of clematis variety Omoshiro:

  1. Cuttings. The most common option. It is better not to use the tops of shoots - they take root worse. Green and lignified cuttings are suitable for rooting.
  2. By layering. Ideal option for beginners. All rooted cuttings retain varietal characteristics.
  3. Dividing the bush. The event is scheduled for autumn - September. At this time, clematis tolerates it better.

Hybrids are not propagated by seeds; in this case, varietal characteristics are not preserved.

Diseases and pests

The main diseases that can appear on the clematis bush of the Omoshiro variety are fungal infections, gray rot, leaf spot, and powdery mildew. In case of fungal infections and gray rot, the diseased parts are removed and the clematis is treated with a solution of Fundazol.Other problems of the Omoshiro variety are removed by copper sulfate.

Pests – nematodes, slugs, snails, spider mites. The main attention should be paid to preventing the appearance of pests. During attacks, appropriate drugs are used.

Conclusion

Clematis Omoshiro is a large Japanese variety with beautiful flowering. Following the recommendations for growing vines guarantees gardeners a spectacular decoration of the site.

Reviews of clematis Omoshiro

Elena Fedorovna Zamyatina, 39 years old, Belgorod
For me, Omoshiro is my favorite variety. This year I even left a couple to spend the winter on supports. The winter was not too frosty, we survived it well. It begins to bloom actively in the third year. Before this, it produces single flowers, but very beautiful ones. Loves light and abundant watering. It is not necessary to water frequently and little by little. I feed it with mullein, ash and minerals (sometimes). In spring - treatment with copper sulfate. Not sick.
Tatyana Viktorovna Samokhina, 44 years old, Krasnodar region
Omoshiro is a charming clematis. I try not to plant it close to the wall. Once the flower suffered greatly during a rainy year. The water that flowed from the roof of the house stagnated in the root zone. The roots began to rot and the plant had to be saved. It needs to be planted at a distance of at least 30 cm. In our region I don’t provide additional cover, I just cut it off and sprinkle it with a little soil. Winters great!
