The creators of the Flavor garlic variety are French breeders. Vegetable growers from different countries are familiar with it. It is well known in Holland, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain, Romania and the Mediterranean countries. In the Russian Federation, despite the fact that the variety is not included in the State Register, it is also grown quite often. Garlic ripens well, and the heads planted in the spring develop well even in the harsh conditions of Siberia.
Description of the spring garlic variety Flavor
Garlic of the spring variety Flavor is not a bolting species. It is not winter-hardy, which is why it is unsuitable for planting before winter. The heads of the plant ripen quite large, with an elegant short neck, about 5 cm in diameter, and some specimens reach 6 cm. The weight of the bulbs is from 60 to 80 g, the integumentary scales are light, matte and dry, the teeth are shiny, soft pink, when peeled pastel cream. Taste qualities
Flavor – garlic with a pleasant, not very spicy taste, juicy and dense pulp. It is used fresh; housewives also add cloves to marinades, use it in preservation, and as a seasoning for various dishes.
Ripening and yield
Flavor is considered a mid-season variety of garlic. Its harvesting is usually carried out at the end of August, when the heads reach full maturity. This happens when the leaves of the plant die, dry out, and their color changes.
As for yield, many vegetable growers consider Flavor to be a fairly productive variety of garlic. From a square meter of land it is possible to collect an average of 2 kg of finished raw materials.
Disease resistance
Garlic Flavor is a relatively resistant variety and, with proper care, is not particularly susceptible to diseases, but, according to experienced farmers, it is better to disinfect all planting material before sowing. To disinfect the cloves, you can use a weak solution of potassium permanganate, table salt or copper sulfate.
Growing regions
The flavor is zoned for planting in the regions of central Russia. In the south, the crop is also allowed to be grown, but the timing of its sowing and harvesting is slightly shifted. The Flavor variety is predominantly distributed in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.

Landing rules
The most favorable place for growing Flavor garlic is an area with light, medium-loamy soil. The land must be well cultivated and fertilized with organic matter and minerals.
It is advisable to prepare the beds for the plant in the fall and, during digging, add garden compost or humus (a bucket for each square), plus phosphorus and potassium, into the soil.
Planting of Flavor garlic begins towards the end of April, when the soil is well warmed up and the threat of frost has completely passed. Pre-wetting the beds is also a necessary condition.
For planting, elastic cloves without damage, weighing up to 6 g, are taken from heads that, two months before planting, were kept for several days in the refrigerator, wrapped in a damp napkin.
After 8-10 hours, disinfected cloves are planted bottom down, to a depth of 4 cm, at a distance of 10 cm from each other, keeping an interval between rows of 25 cm. The furrows are mulched on top with peat chips, straw or sawdust.
Care instructions
If you take good care of the beds with crops, then later you will be able to reap a large harvest from them. To do this, water the garlic quite often, but without excessive moisture. The soil should always be moist, without stagnant water. The next day after the procedure, the soil between the rows is loosened.
Garlic is fertilized at the beginning of the growing season, a couple of weeks after the appearance of green mass, with nitrogen, for which ammonium nitrate or urea is used. At the stage of mass gain by the head, humatized urea and a salt solution are added to the soil to protect against diseases.
If the growing region is cold, then the mulch layer is maintained at a height of 5-10 cm throughout the entire cultivation period.
Conclusion
Garlic Flavor is a tasty and productive variety with a long shelf life. The variety is not particularly demanding in terms of care, although it does require adherence to a feeding schedule. It grows well in different Russian regions, but prefers warm and non-rainy weather. Suitable for growing for personal use and for sale.
