Tomato Auria: description, reviews

The Auria tomato has many names: Lady's whim, Manhood, Adam, etc. This is due to the unusual shape of the fruit. The variety can be found in catalogs under different names, but the main characteristics remain unchanged. The Auria tomato is famous for its high yield and excellent taste of the fruit.

Characteristics of the variety

Let's start the description of the Auria tomato with the fact that the variety was bred by Novosibirsk breeders. The culture is intended for open and closed growing methods.

Advice! For the middle zone and Siberia, it is recommended to grow Auria in greenhouses. The open method of cultivating the variety is more suitable for the southern regions.

Auria is an indeterminate tomato. The bush is a vine that can grow up to 1.8 m in height. In a greenhouse, a tomato grows more than 2 m. However, the structure of the bush is not spreading. There are few branches on the flexible tomato stem, the amount of foliage is average.

Important! In order for Auria tomatoes to produce a good harvest, the bushes need to be shaped by removing excess shoots.

Characteristics of the fetus

The most interesting thing in the description of the Auria tomato is its fruits. The vegetable, elongated to 15 cm, with tuberous walls, has given rise to many interesting names.The weight of the fruit reaches 200 g, but the average weight of a tomato usually varies between 80–150 g. Tomatoes are tied with a brush. Its weight can reach 0.8 kg. This weight is too much for thin shoots. To prevent them from breaking off, vegetable growers regulate the number of fruits by removing excess ovaries. The ripening period of tomatoes lasts from mid-July to September.

If you cut the Auria fruit lengthwise, you can see two seed chambers inside. The grains are small, evenly distributed throughout the fleshy pulp of the tomato. The skin of a tomato is thin, but quite dense walls are hidden underneath it. Tomato pulp is characterized by a large amount of dry matter. Thanks to this, Auria fruits are stored for a long time, do not crack and can withstand long-term transportation. A ripe tomato turns completely red. There is no green spot around the stalk. Sometimes the skin from the central part of the fruit to the end acquires a light shade. This is considered normal and does not affect the taste of the tomato in any way.

Without the taste of the vegetable, the characteristics and description of the Auria tomato variety will be incomplete. The fruit is more beautiful than tasty. In its fresh form, gourmets do not approve of it. The tomato pulp is slightly sweet, and when unripe it tastes fresh. A high content of dry matter makes the fruit low in juiciness. According to reviews, the Auria tomato is more suitable for preservation. The elongated shape allows you to conveniently place the fruits in the jar. Canned tomatoes turn out tasty and whole. The dense pulp does not crack during heat treatment.

Positive and negative traits of the variety

To fully characterize the Auria tomato variety, let's look at its advantages:

  • tomato is not afraid of temperature fluctuations;
  • if there is no epidemic, Auria’s resistance to diseases is high;
  • tomato variety is drought resistant;
  • high yield;
  • despite the dryness of the pulp, the good taste of tomatoes is manifested in canning;
  • The fruits are resistant to cracking, have an excellent presentation, and can withstand transportation.

The disadvantages of tomatoes include the following:

  • Auria fruits are stored well, but not for long;
  • thin stems break under the weight of the brushes;
  • The crop is demanding in the selection of fertilizers.

Another unpleasant factor is the difficulty of purchasing Auria seeds, since the variety is poorly distributed on sale.

Fruit processing

Auria tomatoes have specific fruits that are not suitable for fresh consumption. The vegetable is dry but meaty. Due to the small amount of water, the tomato pulp does not crack during heat treatment. Meatiness has a good effect on the consistency of tomato paste. The pureed puree does not need to be boiled for a long time to evaporate the water. The taste of a tomato is revealed only after processing. The finished paste acquires a sweetish taste. It becomes tender and very thick.

Canned fruits from a jar retain their shape, remain elastic and look beautiful on the table. Lightly salted tomato pulp retains a pleasant sweet and sour taste. Auria will deservedly take pride of place on the festive table.

Features of growing the variety

Growing the Auria variety is no different from caring for other tall tomatoes. Of course, there are a number of nuances, but they affect adult culture more.

Preparing seeds for sowing and growing seedlings

To get a good harvest of tomatoes, seeds begin to be prepared in February. First, the grains are calibrated, discarding small and broken specimens.Hand-sorted tomato seeds are poured into a jar with saline solution. After 15 minutes, all the empty grains will float, and the full ones will settle to the bottom. Pacifiers need to be thrown away. All other tomato seeds are washed with clean water, dried, and then placed in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate. The grains are disinfected within 20 minutes.

To speed up the germination of tomatoes, the grains are soaked before sowing. To do this, spread gauze over a wide saucer, lay out tomato seeds in one layer, cover with gauze on top and moisten. For soaking, it is better to use distilled warm water. Moreover, it should cover half the tomato grains. Sometimes vegetable growers add growth stimulants to the water.

Important! The soaking process lasts 12 hours. During this time, you need to change the water 3 times.

After soaking, an important process begins - germination. Tomato seeds are similarly laid out on gauze on a saucer, but they are not covered with water. The fabric is constantly kept moist by spraying with a spray bottle. Before pecking, tomato seeds should be kept warm at a temperature of at least +20OWITH.

Hardening is an important stage that increases the resistance of seedlings and adult tomatoes to temperature changes. Plus, productivity increases by 50%. The process involves placing the tomato seeds in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Hardening occurs at a temperature of +2OC. After this, the tomato seeds are heated at room temperature +20OC. The procedure is performed at least 3 maximum 5 times.

The time for sowing seeds directly depends on the location where the tomato seedlings are planted. In the south, Auria grows well in the open air. In this case, the grains are sowed 62 days before the seedlings are planted in the garden.When growing Auria in greenhouses, seeds are sown 45–55 days before seedlings are planted. It is better to use purchased soil. It already has all the necessary microelements. If the soil is collected from the garden, it is disinfected by watering it with a strong solution of manganese, and then heated in the oven. To completely kill pathogenic microorganisms, it is enough to keep the soil at a temperature of 190 for 20 minutes.OWITH.

The treated soil is left for up to 14 days to ventilate in the fresh air. After this, the soil is poured into containers, grooves 1 cm deep are made and the hatched tomato seeds are sown. The tomato grains are covered with earth on top, watered with a spray bottle, after which the container is tightly covered with film.

Every day until the shoots emerge, the container is opened for 30 minutes. At this time, the tomato seeds receive oxygen. If the soil is dry, then lightly moisten it. The seeds are kept under the film at a temperature of +28OC. With the emergence of seedlings, the shelter is removed and the temperature is lowered to +20OWITH.

During the entire growing period, tomato seedlings should receive maximum light. Before planting, it is hardened by taking it outside into the shade, and then gradually into the sun.

Features of caring for an adult tomato

Continuing to consider the description of the Auria tomato variety, it is worthwhile to dwell in more detail on the features of caring for an adult plant. The crop is characterized by high yield, which means the plant needs a lot of nutrients. Auria is very fond of feeding with organic matter and mineral fertilizers. Despite its resistance to drought, tomato responds well to timely, abundant watering. The soil around the roots should always be loose.

The Auria bush is a vine and needs to be pinched.The plant is formed into 2 stems, and all other stems are removed. As the stems grow, they are tied to a trellis. Branches with bunches of tomatoes are supported, otherwise they will break off under the weight of the fruit. A prerequisite for the Auria variety is the removal of excess leaves. Usually this is the lower tier. Plus, they tear off the leaves near each brush, leaving 2 or 3 pieces.

Returning to fertilizing, it is worth noting that for tomatoes of the Auria variety it is usually enough to apply fertilizer three times during the entire growth period:

  • when planting seedlings;
  • during flowering;
  • with the appearance of the ovary.

This amount of fertilizing is considered normal if the site has fertile soil. Otherwise, the frequency of fertilization is selected individually.

In general, the Auria variety is considered heat-loving. In the northern regions, cultivation is allowed only in heated greenhouses, and the result is not always successful. If the air temperature drops to zero, the inflorescences will begin to fall off.

Important! You can collect seeds from Auria for propagation. You just need to choose powerful, well-developed bushes with a lot of fruits.

Tomatoes ripen no earlier than 115–125 days from the moment the sprouts peck. Auria from 1 m2 under normal growing conditions it can bear up to 12 kg of fruit. The harvested crop is usually immediately sent for processing and conservation.

Disease Control

The disease resistance of tomatoes promised by breeders does not always coincide with reality. Reviews from vegetable growers about the Auria tomato variety say that plantings on acidic soil are partially affected by blossom end rot. Often the problem occurs when there is a lack of moisture. The method of struggle is simple. For Auria, it is necessary to water more frequently so that the soil under each bush is slightly moist.You should not immediately resort to expensive chemicals. A reliable tomato saver is a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture. It contains copper sulfate and lime. Tomato bushes are treated with the solution 2 to 4 times per season. Reducing the acidity of the soil will not hurt either. To do this, dolomite flour is added to the soil.

Now let's read reviews from vegetable growers about the Auria tomato variety.

I grow the Auria variety for conservation. The tomato is so productive that six bushes are enough. I tried making salads. The tomato tastes good, but it is better to eat the juicy fruits fresh. For this I have other varieties, but Auria is used purely for pickles.

Our climate is cool, so Auria tomatoes grow in my greenhouse. Bushes did not grow more than 2 m high. Once, for technical reasons, I didn’t heat the greenhouse on time. A few inflorescences fell off, but the bushes survived. Auria is excellent for conservation. Doesn't sell very well. People prefer round fruits.

  1. I have been growing Auria in Belarus for 4 years in open ground. I plant 4-5 bushes, remove about 4 buckets. We use it for pickling and lecho, it’s a bit dry for food and there’s no point in storing it. The appearance is peculiar, it is very rare here, people are interested, but there are few people willing to try breeding

  2. This is the third year they have been planted. The taste is very sweet (my daughter says that our tomatoes are the most delicious)). I have many varieties, but for some reason Auria is the first one that starts to hurt (the leaves turn yellow or late blight attacks it). Grows in a greenhouse, very compact, little foliage, many ovaries and large clusters. But the very last one bears fruit. I won't give them up))
