Characteristics of Samson carrots
The Samson variety ripens in 3.5-4 months. Carrots grow normally in different soils. To obtain a good harvest, regular watering and fertilizing are required.
Maturation period
Samson carrots are mid-season or mid-late varieties. The ripening period ranges from 110 to 120 days from the moment the first shoots appear. Time depends on weather conditions, soil fertility and care.
Carrot yield Samson
The productivity of the Samson carrot variety is high and reaches 5-8 kg per 1 m2. For industrial cultivation, the indicator ranges from 528 to 762 c/ha, which is 70-120 c/ha more compared to the standard of the Nantskaya 4 variety. The yield of marketable products is very high - from 91% to 94%, which allows you to grow carrots not only for personal consumption, but also for sale.
Resistance to diseases and pests
The Samson variety is resistant to most diseases. If you follow watering recommendations and other care rules, the crop will grow normally. With excessive moisture there is a risk of black rot. An invasion of aphids, carrot flies and other pests is possible. Therefore, plants need to be inspected periodically. At the beginning of the season, it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment.
Landing regions
Samson carrots are unpretentious to growing conditions. Therefore, the crop can be cultivated in most Russian regions:
- middle zone and Moscow region;
- Volga region;
- Chernozem region;
- southern regions;
- Northwest;
- Ural;
- Western and Eastern Siberia;
- Far East.

Advantages and disadvantages
Samson carrots are valued for their good taste and stable yield. The root crops are large, with a smooth, leveled surface. They are suitable for preparing any dishes and preparations.
Pros:
- high yield of marketable fruits;
- pleasant taste;
- large root vegetables for universal use;
- keeping quality and transportability;
- high seed germination (no need to thin out);
- resistance to pests and diseases.
Minuses:
- relatively late maturation;
- requirement for regular watering;
- yield depends on weather conditions;
- seeds are more expensive than a number of other varieties.
Recommendations for cultivation
Samson carrots are cold-resistant, so the seeds can be planted at a time when night temperatures do not drop below 5 degrees Celsius. Specific dates depend on the climatic conditions of the region.
For example, in the south you can plant as early as mid-April, and in the middle zone - in early May. In regions with cool springs, it is recommended to plant seeds 1-2 weeks later, i.e. in the middle of May. Pre-winter sowing is also allowed in late October - early November.
Before planting, dig up the soil and apply organic fertilizer (a bucket of compost or humus per 2 m2) or complex mineral (80 g per 2 m2). If the soil contains a lot of clay, add 1 kg of sand or sawdust to the same area.
The algorithm for planting carrots of the Samson variety is standard:
- Soak the seeds in warm water for a day. It is advisable to add a growth stimulator to the solution, for example, “Kornevin”, “Epin”, “Zircon”.
- Etch in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 20-30 minutes.
- Mark several furrows 2 cm deep at a distance of 25 cm.
- Plant the seeds at a distance of 4-5 cm (no need to thin out, since germination is good).
- Sprinkle with soil and water.
In the future, care comes down to watering, fertilizing, loosening the soil and weeding.
Fertilizers are applied 7-10 days after the appearance of 3-4 leaves, then after four weeks and again a month before harvest. The best option is to alternate complex mineral supplements with organic matter (chicken manure 1:20, mullein 1:10).
Watering is stopped 2-3 weeks before harvest. Root crops are harvested in dry weather and stored in the cellar.
Pest and disease control
Samson carrots may suffer from black rot and phomosis. To prevent these infections, it is recommended to follow the watering norm, focusing on the weather forecast. 1-2 weeks after germination, fungicide treatment is carried out:
- "Falcon";
- "Prosaro";
- "Skor";
- "Tattu";
- "Profit".
Among insects, aphids, carrot flies, and psyllids pose a threat. If pests are detected, it is recommended to treat Samson carrots with solutions and infusions. You can prepare them yourself. An infusion of chili pepper, mustard powder, onion peel, and a decoction of marigold flowers help well. In extreme cases, insecticides are used:
- "Biotlin";
- "Aktara";
- "Aktellik";
- "Fufanon";
- "Confidor".
Conclusion
