The variety was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2004. Approved for cultivation since 2010. Recommended for greenhouses and open ground.

Description and characteristics of tomato variety Bourgeois

A determinate culture is a standard, heavily leafy plant. The height of the Bourgeois tomato is 0.8 - 1.5 m. The leaves are dark green, ordinary. Developed root system.

Attention! During active growth, the shoot is tied to a peg. It is recommended to form a culture of 2–3 stems.

Bourgeois tomato fruits are flat-round in shape with slightly pronounced ribbing

The color of the tomatoes is uniform, red, without spots at the base. When unripe, it is light green. The skin is dense, smooth, with a glossy sheen. Resistant to cracking. The weight of the fruit is about 200 g, but in greenhouses they grow up to 400–500 g. Good transportability of the fruit and long shelf life (up to 45 days).

When it ripens

Tomato Bourgeois is a mid-season variety. The first fruits appear 3–3.5 months after transplanting the seedlings into the ground. With proper agricultural technology and good weather, ripening ahead of schedule is possible. Fruiting lasts for several weeks.

Bourgeois tomato yield

Proper care guarantees a good harvest. 7–8.5 kg are removed from the bush per season. On average from 1 sq. m harvest up to 10 kg of tomatoes.

Disease resistance

The Bourgeois variety has immunity to almost any virus and diseases, such as cladosporiosis, verticillium, tobacco mosaic, fusarium wilt, blossom end rot and late blight. Despite the developed immunity, preventive measures (especially in greenhouses) must be carried out.

Growing regions

The Bourgeois tomato variety is recommended for cultivation in the following regions: Northern, Northwestern, Central, Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, Ural, Far Eastern, Northern Caucasus, Western and Eastern Siberia.

Purpose and application

The peculiarity of the Bourgeois variety is a proportionate combination of acidity and sugar, so tomatoes have an excellent taste both fresh and processed.

Tomatoes are successfully used for pickling in a barrel, canning whole, fresh and in salads and other dishes. Suitable for processing into juices or tomato paste.

Advantages and disadvantages

Determinate tomatoes, in particular Bourgeois, are popular among summer residents. They attract attention with the small size of the bushes, which makes it possible to place many plants in small areas, with simple cultivation and a good harvest.

An important advantage of the Bourgeois variety is its long shelf life from 30 to 45 days.

Pros:

  • beautiful appearance of the fruit;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • decent taste of tomatoes;
  • multifunctionality of application;
  • low maintenance requirements;
  • tolerance to lack of watering;
  • developed immunity:
  • resistance to diseases and pests.

Minuses:

  • average yield;
  • fragility of branches;
  • need for garter.

When and how to plant

Since the Bourgeois tomato is a hybrid, it is grown in seedlings. 1.5–2 months before planting in open ground or a greenhouse, seeds purchased from trusted suppliers begin to germinate at home. Sowing time varies in different climates.

Sowing schedule:

  • southern region – late February or early March;
  • northern – the first days of April;
  • temperate climate – second and third ten days of March.

Seeds are disinfected before planting. To do this, soak them in water and remove any floating specimens. Then soak in a solution of manganese, copper sulfate, soda solution or other disinfectants. Before planting, they are immersed for some time in a growth stimulator.

Priming

To sow Bourgeois tomato seeds, prepare light soil containing peat, black soil or garden soil. One of the raising agents is added to the soil: humus; sawdust; sand; coconut shavings. The prepared soil mixture is introduced as a fertilizer.To make your work easier, simply buy a soil mixture for tomatoes or a universal soil mixture.

Sowing

Heated soil is poured into a common box, lightly watered, grooves are made, centimeter deep. Bourgeois tomato seeds are buried at a distance of 3 cm from one another. Sprinkle with earth. The box is covered with glass or film and transferred to a room where the air temperature is 23–26°C.

Sprouted Bourgeois tomatoes are dived into separate pots with a volume of more than 300 ml

Transplantation to a permanent place

The seedlings are transferred to open or closed ground when they become stronger and the thermometer in the soil at a depth of 12 cm shows 15 °C. Leave 0.5 m between holes, and more than 0.7 m between rows.

Schedule for transplanting the Bourgeois variety into place by region:

  • northern - early June;
  • moderate – May 11–20;
  • southern - end of April.

Regardless of the region, the yield indicators of Bourgeois tomatoes when grown in a greenhouse or open ground are stable.

Care instructions

Water Bourgeois tomatoes twice a week, introducing 3 liters of warm water under the bush. Then the soil is loosened and the weeds are pulled out.

Mulch with humus, hay or rotted straw. Mulch will protect the roots and serve as another feeding.

Fertilize 3-4 times per season. Nitrogen fertilizing is introduced once. The rest are potassium-phosphorus.

Bourgeois needs staking, as it is a determinate variety with rather tall bushes and fragile stems. The main stem, as well as the clusters with heavy tomatoes, are tied up.

The bushes do not need to be formed. But experienced gardeners recommend leaving two stems. Regular removal of foliage at the bottom of the bush is necessary. The procedure is carried out once every seven days. Remove up to three leaves.

To protect tomatoes from night frosts, use a film cover for the first two weeks.

Caring for a variety in a greenhouse is not much different. But you should pay attention to some nuances. Due to poor air circulation, closed spaces require regular ventilation. Insect nets are installed on the windows.

Tomatoes are watered weekly, as moisture in greenhouse beds evaporates more slowly.

Even before planting seedlings in the greenhouse, its walls are sprayed with copper sulfate. And they completely change the soil in the beds where tomatoes were previously grown.

Treatment against diseases and pests

The Burzhuy variety has stable immunity against diseases. But protecting against pests is a top priority. The most common damage is caused by aphids and the Colorado potato beetle.

To prevent slugs and aphids, spray the bushes with a soap solution

For prevention, use a decoction of wormwood. Protect from mole crickets with ground shells.

They can be saved from the Colorado potato beetle using specific means, such as “Prestige”, but it is safer for tomatoes to collect pests manually

Conclusion

Tomato Bourgeois F1 is a hybrid that will not disappoint even knowledgeable gardeners who have grown many varieties. This unpretentious crop will not react to skipping watering. Seedlings do not require complex care. Not afraid of temperature changes, bad weather and drought. And even in the cold summer, the Bourgeois tomato will delight you with good yield. Suitable for fresh use and canning.

This is my second year growing the Bourgeois tomato in the garden. The fruit has a pleasant classic tomato shade. The durability of the hybrid is impressive. I water it every week. I fertilize twice a season. The tomato does not need pinching. But a garter is necessary.
