Cultivation details

When coming to the store to buy eggplant seeds in winter, you need to understand that all varieties will be demanding on certain conditions:

  • warm conditions;
  • timely watering;
  • good lighting;
  • looseness of the soil.
Important! “Samurai Sword” is the same variety that tolerates short-term drought and temperatures above +28-30 degrees Celsius.

Eggplant is a rather capricious plant. Such stability is a big plus when growing. This means that the gardener will not need to spend a huge amount of time caring for seedlings and adult plants.

The “Samurai Sword” eggplant passed soil control, which means that all the seeds were previously planted in the ground by specialists, and a harvest was obtained from them. This makes it possible:

  • determine germination;
  • establish the energy of germination and, in fact, growth;
  • confirm the quality and yield of the variety.

Eggplant is a non-native crop for Russia, so everyone who has encountered cultivation thinks that it is difficult, since maintaining the optimal temperature for a long period of cultivation is problematic. Please note that even such a mid-early eggplant variety as “Samurai Sword” ripens within 110-120 days from the moment the first shoots appear. That is why the entire growing process is divided into two stages:

  • growing seedlings;
  • planting and growing seedlings in the ground.

Growing seedlings

Seeds of the “Samurai Sword” variety are planted in separate cups so that the plant does not suffer during replanting. As a rule, in central Russia, seed planting begins on March 10 and ends on March 20.

The seeds are buried 1 centimeter, no more. In this case, the soil must be moist.If there is not enough sunlight, you will have to add additional light to the seedlings. This is very important because eggplants love light and warmth. Additionally, you need to move the seedlings to a cooler place overnight. This will create conditions close to real ones.

Planting seedlings in open ground

When transplanting seedlings of the “Samurai Sword” variety, you will need to do this according to the 70x40 pattern. If you follow the time of planting seeds, then you can transplant the eggplant into open or closed ground already between May 20 and May 30. Before planting, apply organic fertilizers, which eggplants love.

This variety of eggplant produces a rich harvest. It is noted that from one square meter will be collected from 4 to 5 kilograms of long fruits with excellent taste. The eggplants themselves will be elongated and long. The plant is semi-spreading, its height is 60 centimeters and below with a large number of leaves. There is no need to plant this variety in partial shade, since it is the foliage that will provide the necessary protection for the fruits from bright sunlight.

Reviews

As a rule, gardeners try to find reviews about each new product that could influence their choice. Here are some descriptions from those who have already grown this variety of eggplant.

Anastasia Rybina, Ryazan
In 2015, I bought a bag of seeds on the advice of the seller. In principle, there are no problems with cultivation. The variety is indeed resistant, although the seedlings rise unevenly. But this applies not only to Sword of the Samurai. Eggplants taste excellent; they were fried and made into salads for the winter. One “but” - I’m not a fan of the long shape, I prefer pot-bellied eggplants, but the skin is thin.
Victor Savelyev, Krasnodar city
Planted for the first time this year.Resistance to the Colorado potato beetle and mites is very important. The yield is average, but the fruits are tasty and have no bitterness. Excellent for stewing and for rolling into jars.

Conclusion

“Samurai Sword” is worthy of attention; it will very soon gain popularity in our market.
