Many gardeners plant several varieties of eggplants on their plot at once. This makes it possible to enjoy this wonderful vegetable in the early months, late summer and fall. Everyone chooses for themselves exactly those varieties of eggplants that suit their taste. You can often see white, black, purple and striped eggplants in garden beds and greenhouses. Today we will talk about whites, or more precisely, about the Bibo F1 variety.
Description of culture
Hybrid Bibo F1 is early ripening, it is sown in February and March, and harvesting can be planned for August - September. You can grow eggplants both in open ground and in a greenhouse.
Eggplants are planted according to the following sowing pattern: no more than 65 cm between rows and no more than 35 cm between plants in a row. Plant no more than 4 to 6 bushes per square meter, since lack of space can play a cruel joke on the plant and there will simply be no harvest. Sowing is done to a depth of no more than 2 centimeters.
Important! In order to make the eggplant harvest as early as possible, there is no need to pick the seedlings.
Bibo F1 is planted in those beds where carrots, melons, legumes, as well as dill and various types of salads bore fruit the previous year.
The bush itself is medium-sized and reaches a height of no more than 90 cm. The fruits grow oval and white in color. They are smooth in structure and do not have a pronounced shine to the skin. The average size of a ripe eggplant is 18 cm in length and 8 cm in diameter, weighing approximately 350 grams. You can see the culture clearly in the video:
The fruit pulp is light without pronounced bitterness, with excellent taste. These eggplants are perfect for processing for the winter; they are also used for stewing and cooking. In addition, they can be stored for a long time and are ready for transportation.
A special feature of Bibo F1 eggplants is that they are able to bear fruit in extreme conditions and grow quickly. The culture has resistance to diseases such as mosaic and Fusarium wilt.
Reviews about growing
Many gardeners share their opinions about Bibo F1 eggplants. Some even give practical recommendations for growing and caring for crops:
Elena Selivanova, Omsk
I have been growing eggplants for quite a long time. I used to think, as probably many gardeners do, that growing eggplants is a troublesome business, and it is extremely difficult to achieve a harvest. Yes, there were such times, but I improved the technique every year and very soon I began to receive a sufficient amount of ripe and tasty eggplants. In the last two years I have been planting several varieties, some purple and the other white - Bibo F1. I start planting in mid-February. It is best to pre-prepare the soil in the fall or use store-bought soil when planting. Before sowing, I do not soak the seeds, since F1 type hybrids are distinguished by the fact that their yield and endurance are higher than others, so they do not require special preparation. I sow the seeds to a depth of 1 cm in boxes with prepared soil, cover them with a layer of loose soil and cover them with cellophane. So they stand in a warm place until the sprouts appear. After the seeds sprout, I remove the cellophane and place the boxes on the sunny side so that the sprouts do not have to reach for the light. By April I have plants ready for planting that require hardening off. I harden them in the same way as all other seedlings. They can be planted in the ground only after the frosts have passed and the ground has become warm. A special tip for growing Bibo F1 eggplants is to constantly collect the Colorado potato beetle, which really loves to eat eggplant leaves. They respect them even more than potatoes. Therefore, I look through the beds in the mornings and evenings and collect all the pests. If I can’t control the beetles on my own, then I use pest control sprays. Last year I began to plant them in beds next to eggplants. marigold, calendula or basil. Insects do not like the smell of these plants, so there are either no beetles at all or very few of them. The rest of the care is, as usual, weeding, watering and fertilizing. As I said earlier, my favorite variety is Bibo F1 eggplant. The fruits of this crop are not blue, as we are used to, but white, very tasty and large, and not at all bitter. This variety is quite heat-resistant; the plant has many leaves. I like white fruits not only for their taste, but also because they look very exotic in the garden. When growing eggplants, I don’t use any secret or overly complicated techniques, but my family feasts on these delicious fruits every year, and there’s enough to prepare. By the way, I only buy seeds in stores, since I bought them from collectors a couple of times, but for some reason these eggplants didn’t take root and didn’t even bear fruit.
Variety of reviews about the Bibo F1 variety
These eggplants are one of the most popular among gardeners throughout Russia, be it the southern territories or the north, and take root well in any climate. Here are just some admiring reviews about this hybrid:
Anna Miklyaeva, Orenburg
I simply adore this variety, it is my most basic one. My family and I pick eggplants early and enjoy their unique taste, while others are still waiting for the fruits.
Mikhail Vasyukov, Saint Petersburg
This is not the first year I have been planting Bibo and I can say that compared to others, this variety, of course, wins in many ways. But the only thing that confuses me is their white color, but I’m not used to such eggplants.
Olga Petrova, Tyumen
My husband is Caucasian, so we often cook Caucasian dishes, and they almost always contain eggplant. I use the Bibo F1 variety and the food turns out simply excellent. And my husband says, with such eggplants, the dishes are like in childhood.
Vera Guseva, Moscow
In my three years of gardening experience, I can only say one thing - Bibo eggplants combine excellent taste and ease of growing. But maybe it’s just for me to look after them. The only thing that worries me during their fruiting season is the army of Colorado potato beetles. I haven’t learned how to deal with them yet, but even when these insects eat the foliage, the eggplants continue to gain color and bear fruit.
Maria Kasatkina, Barnaul
I've been harvesting eggplants for a week and a half now. I concluded for myself that next year I will only plant Bibo.
Elvira Rakova, Vsevolozhsk
Bibo F1 was recommended to me by a store salesperson when I was new to gardening and was choosing seeds for planting. Now I am very grateful to her, because these eggplants are simply a miracle - there are few seeds, the flesh is tender, I kept them for the winter and ate plenty during the season.
Conclusion
You can grow any crop, but it is very difficult to grow it well, and also to get the fruits. Eggplants are considered very finicky to grow. The Bibo F1 variety is an excellent option for beginners in gardening and those who are not used to spending their time on constant care without receiving fruit.
I used to plant eggplants and didn’t see any fruit, but five years ago I bought white Bibos and since then I’ve always had a good harvest, no matter how cold or hot the summer, there are always eggplants and the taste is excellent. I never even soak them, there’s no bitterness at all.
