The benefits of propolis for hemorrhoids and fissures

Propolis (uza, bee glue) is a sticky substance produced by bees. It is used by these insects for construction and disinfection purposes - for insulating the walls of the hive and sealing cracks, disinfecting honeycombs before laying eggs, mummifying other insects and debris. Over the summer, beekeepers collect only 100-150 g of product from 1 hive.

The composition of bonds includes resins, tannins and aromatic compounds, waxes, flavonoids, alcohols and minerals, and in total there are more than 200 components. About half of them are resinous substances and 30% are wax.

The effectiveness of propolis for hemorrhoids is due to its properties:

  • painkillers;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • venotonic;
  • regenerating (wound healing);
  • antiseptic and antimicrobial;
  • antithrombotic.
Attention! Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and bactericidal effect, bee glue has found wide use in the treatment of mucous membranes (not only in proctology, but also in gynecology and otolaryngology).

Propolis destroys most pathogenic bacteria and fungi, many types of viruses. The mild analgesic effect is due to the presence of essential oils and tannins in the composition.

The effectiveness of treating hemorrhoids with propolis at home

Bee glue has long established itself as an effective remedy for treating hemorrhoids. Its use relieves inflammation, reduces bleeding of the mucous membrane, swelling and size of hemorrhoids, and heals anal fissures.

Anyone can make their own candles, tincture or ointment from propolis at home. For the best therapeutic effect, treatment should be started as early as possible. Below are popular and effective home recipes for these dosage forms.

Propolis cream for the treatment of hemorrhoids

For external hemorrhoids, cream is applied to the nodes or applied as a gauze bandage. For internal use, place a little product (about half a teaspoon) into the anus in the morning and evening.

  • 40 g purified wax;
  • 10 g lanolin;
  • 100 ml olive oil.

Attention! Any alcohol tincture of propolis (pharmacy or homemade) is intended for external use only.

To make a sitz bath, pour 4-5 liters of water and 100 ml of propolis tincture into a comfortable basin. If you need to relieve pain and stop bleeding, take cool water and sit for 3-5 minutes. For itching and irritation, warm water (50-55°C) is needed to reduce inflammation; the bath time is 15 minutes.

For a compress, gauze or a wide bandage is moistened in the tincture and applied to the inflamed nodes. Such lotions are convenient for external hemorrhoids.

How to make suppositories for hemorrhoids from propolis

The pharmacy has a huge selection of suppositories with propolis for the treatment of hemorrhoids:

  • "Hemo-pro";
  • "Monfarm";
  • "Prostopin" and etc.

They help with exacerbations of the disease, are effective for the treatment and prevention of rectal fissures, have antitumor, analgesic, anti-inflammatory effects, and improve intestinal motility. This dosage form is convenient to use.

You can make propolis candles for hemorrhoids with your own hands at home. The following recipe is based on the composition of homeopathic suppositories “Propolis DN”:

  • cocoa butter – 50 g;
  • lanolin – 4 g;
  • propolis extract – 5 ml.

Melt the cocoa butter in a water bath and add the remaining ingredients.

Advice! Molds for candles in the form of a torpedo or a narrow cone are most conveniently made from food-grade aluminum foil.

The solution that has not had time to harden is poured into them, and in this form the suppositories are sent for storage in the refrigerator.

Before each use, simply remove another candle from the foil and insert it into the anus after hygiene measures. If there is no foil, use parchment paper or polyethylene.

Recipe for candles with honey, herbs and propolis:

  • coconut oil – 3 tbsp. l.;
  • honey - full tsp;
  • crushed propolis – 2 tsp;
  • aloe juice – ½ tsp;
  • 10 drops pharmaceutical calendula extract.

Coconut oil needs to be melted together with propolis, add honey and herbal ingredients, mix everything and pour into foil molds.

Enema solutions with propolis against hemorrhoids

For hemorrhoids, enemas using a syringe are most often prescribed. The medicinal composition for such a procedure can be made as follows:

  1. Pour 2 tbsp. l. mixture of strawberry leaves and knotweed 300 ml of water.
  2. Bring to a boil, simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
  3. Let cool to 40-45°C, strain and add 2 tbsp. l. aqueous extract of propolis (sold in a pharmacy).
  4. Pour the solution into a syringe and do an enema.
  5. Repeat daily until symptoms disappear (5-10 days).
Attention! You need to give enemas every day after natural cleansing of the intestines and hygiene procedures. Immediately after this, it is effective to use rectal suppositories.

The second recipe for an enema for hemorrhoids is also simple:

  1. Chamomile and calendula flowers (2 tsp each) are poured with 300 ml of boiling water, covered with a lid for 30-40 minutes.
  2. The infusion is filtered and propolis extract (2 tbsp) is poured into it.
Advice! To resolve hemorrhoids and relieve pain, it is effective to add a decoction of wormwood (1 tablespoon per 2 tablespoons of water) to enema solutions.

If the main goal is to relieve pain from hemorrhoids, then instead of chamomile you need to take oak bark. It contains tannins that have an antispasmodic and analgesic effect. For bleeding hemorrhoids, it is recommended to do enemas with propolis and burnet decoction.

Precautionary measures

Pregnant and lactating women should pay special attention to treatment with propolis. There is no direct contraindication to the use of the product for them, but a preliminary consultation with a doctor is required.

Also, you should not be treated with bee glue for more than a month. This is due to the fact that long-term use of propolis can lead to a decrease in immunity, in the case of hemorrhoids - local immunity. And this increases the risk of infection.

If during treatment a burning sensation, itching, swelling, or redness of the skin appears in the anal or rectal area, then you should do an enema with chamomile infusion, take an antihistamine tablet (Diazolin, Tavegil, Suprastin, etc.), and stop using propolis.

Other possible side effects:

  • migraine;
  • headache;
  • general weakness;
  • temperature increase.

It is important to understand that propolis alone cannot remove hemorrhoidal cones in the later stages of the disease. You can usually get rid of advanced hemorrhoids only through surgery.

Contraindications

The main prohibition on the use of propolis for hemorrhoids is individual intolerance to bee products and bee glue, in particular. If it is not known whether there is an allergy or not, then before starting treatment with this remedy, a small amount of tincture or aqueous extract is applied to the inner bend of the elbow and wait 4-6 hours.If there is no reaction in the form of rash, itching, peeling and swelling, then the product can be used.

Many sources say that propolis cannot be used for diabetes and bronchial asthma. In this context we are talking about oral administration. Patients with these diseases should consult a specialist regarding the treatment of hemorrhoids with suppositories, cream or tincture.

Conclusion

In complex treatment, propolis for hemorrhoids will be an effective remedy against pain and swelling in inflamed nodes. Based on bee glue, you can make cream, suppositories, tincture and solutions for enemas. When using any folk remedy, one should not forget about precautions, possible contraindications and mandatory consultation with the attending physician.
