Material for making flowerpots

Flowerpots can be made from various materials:

  • Metal. Durable and durable material. Forged flower girls look elegant. Among the disadvantages of products made from this material: the high price, but the payback is also high. The metal gets very hot in the summer, the soil in it dries out quickly, the problem is solved by additional watering of the plants.
  • Ceramics. Natural material. Looks organic in the landscape. But very fragile. You can make flowerpots with your own hands, but firing will be required for the product to last a long time.
  • Stone. Stone processing is a complex technological process, which is why the price of flower shapes made of stone is quite high.
  • Concrete. It’s a cheap material; moreover, if it is additionally decorated, for example, with broken porcelain, the concrete product will acquire individuality. Another plus: unlimited scope for imagination. And the high performance properties of concrete: does not burn, is resistant to moisture, temperature changes, and durable. The concrete solution takes on any given shape and, when hardened, becomes very strong. The disadvantages of concrete include the weight of the finished product. Therefore, it is better to immediately decide on a permanent place for a massive form for flowers. Outdoor flowerpots are most often made of concrete. In cities, concrete flower stands are installed in high-traffic areas. They serve for many years. Outdoor concrete flowerpots are functional and affordable. Therefore, concrete products have found their application not only on city streets, but also on the territory of private summer cottages. Many gardeners make their own concrete flowerpots.
  • Tree. Not a very durable material, a wooden plant pot will definitely come into contact with moisture. The tree will require additional protection from rotting, then it will last for many years. Using stumps is not a new idea, but that doesn’t stop it from being original. The inside of a stump or cut of a tree is hollowed out. Drainage holes are made and the wood is treated with an antiseptic. And as a result, we have non-standard flowerpots made by ourselves. It is best to fill the soil not with the stump itself, but with some container and place it inside the recess.
  • Plastic. Manufacturers offer a large number of plastic garden flowerpots. Advantages: low price, various shapes and sizes. But plastic flowerpots are short-lived and do not pretend to be original.
  • Available materials. In principle, any object that has fallen out of use can find new life by becoming a container for a flower. It is not difficult to make garden flowerpots for plants with your own hands. The most daring ideas will be embodied in your garden plot. An old garden cart, barrels, baskets, car tires, even plastic bottles - everything can be used by a thrifty owner. The photo shows original flowerpots for a summer house from an old bicycle.

  3. Fill the bottom of a large mold with 3 cm thick concrete mortar and insert the tubes in the center. Once the solution has set, place a smaller container directly on top of the solution and tubes. To prevent it from moving, place a load (bricks, stones) in it. Fill the distance between the containers with concrete solution.
  4. After 24 hours, the inner container with the load is removed. The concrete is moistened. Wrap in film. The structure remains in this form for another week so that the concrete gains the necessary strength. Wet the concrete from time to time. If the weather is humid, there is no need to moisten the concrete. After a week, the concrete flowerpot can be freed from its outer form.
