Description of buzulnik Osiris Cafe Noir

The hybrid has a dwarf variety of buzulnik Cafe Noir (Osiris Cafe Noir) with an earlier flowering period, which begins in June and lasts until August.

Externally, the cultivars differ. Buzulnik Cafe Noir has the following characteristics:

  1. The height of a compact bush is no more than 50 cm;
  2. The leaves are dark purple from spring to late autumn, bright purple in a sunny area, only at the end of the season does the color appear green.
  3. The shape of the plates resembles maple leaves with pronounced large teeth along the edge.
  4. The flowers are bright yellow with an orange core, diameter – 10 cm.
  5. The stems are long, purple, ending in corymbose inflorescences consisting of 5-8 flowers. Along the peduncle there are rarely alternate, lanceolate, small leaves with the same color as in the lower part of the bush.

The Cafe Noir hybrid has high frost resistance. The crop is grown in gardens in the Moscow region. The decorative variety is widespread throughout the European part of Russia.

Cafe Noir is recommended for growing in the shade and only in an area with moist soil.

Application in landscape design

Hybrid buzulnik Osiris Fantasy is a bright plant that attracts attention with the contrasting color of purple leaves and yellow flowers. Used as a background element for low-growing flowering crops. Use the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik to decorate the central part of the flower bed. Shade tolerance allows you to grow perennials in empty places where many species cannot fully develop.

Buzulnik Osiris Fantasy prefers moist soil, so it is planted in lowlands, in areas with close groundwater, used as a tapeworm for decorating lawns, Japanese-style gardens, and creating various compositions with coniferous species.

Several examples with photos of the use of the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik in the design of gardens and personal plots:

  1. For decorating a ridge.
  2. To create a color accent when decorating the lawn.
  3. To fill a mixborder with other flowering crops and conifers.
  4. For designing the coastal area of a reservoir.
  5. Creating a composition in Japanese style.
  6. To create a hedge, as well as to delimit zones of the site.
  7. Can be used as a tapeworm in a flower bed.

Features of reproduction

Toothed buzulnik in its natural environment reproduces by self-sowing and basal shoots. The root system is creeping, branched, covering an area more than 2 m in diameter. Every year, young shoots from vegetative root buds appear near the bush.

The hybrid variety Osiris Fantasy and its dwarf form produce seeds that fully retain the varietal characteristics. Therefore, the perennial is propagated generatively, by dividing the bush and by root shoots.

Seeds are collected in autumn:

  • select several of the largest inflorescences;
  • they are tied with cloth on top so that the seeds do not fall off;
  • after flowering, all flower stalks are cut off, except for the selected ones;
  • Before frost, the flowers are cut and brought indoors along with the fabric, and placed cut side up.

The shoots are cut off with a shovel along with a fragment of the root in the spring and immediately placed in the place reserved for the buzulnik.

Dividing the bush can be done at the beginning of the season or after flowering.

Planting and care

The time and method of placing the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik depends on the planting material. The climatic features of the region are also taken into account. The variety takes a long time to take root; adult specimens do not respond well to transplantation during hot periods.

Recommended timing

The frost resistance indicator applies only to the adult Osiris Fantasy buzulnik that has entered reproductive age. Young plants do not respond well to lower temperatures.In areas with cold winters, it is better to plant the hybrid Osiris Fantasy, if it is grown by seedlings or root shoots, in the spring (approximately in the middle or end of May). The temperature should be above zero, and the soil should warm up to +10 C. This condition also applies to purchased seedlings.

Buzulnik material Osiris Fantasy, when planted in mid-summer, does not take root well due to high air temperatures

Seeds are sown in the fall, immediately after they are collected; until spring they will undergo natural hardening and quickly germinate. The disadvantage of planting at the end of the season is the loss of part of the planting material (approximately 60%). If the seeds sprout and spring frosts return, a large number of seedlings will die. It is better to sow in May or pre-grow seedlings. To do this, seeds are placed in containers in January, and after the leaves form, they are planted.

To rejuvenate the bush, it is recommended to divide it once every 5 years. Buzulnik is divided in spring or autumn. In the second case, it is taken into account that the material will take 1.5 months to take root.

In the event of an emergency transfer of the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik, the deadlines are not taken into account. The flower stalks and most of the leaves are completely cut off from the plant. After transplantation, constantly water and protect from the sun.

Site selection and soil preparation

Buzulnik will not grow on sandy soils; the optimal soil is clay, but well enriched with nutrients. Drainage and aeration do not play a role in the growing season. The roots are close to the surface and have enough oxygen.

The plant is moisture-loving; choose soil that is constantly moist. The ideal option is near bodies of water, in the shadow of a building on the north side.Ravines and lowlands are those places that can be safely allocated for the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik. It is not recommended to plant it in open sunny areas; if there are no ponds, you can use the area under the canopy of trees.

The soil does not require special preparation. For seedlings, dig an area for a hole (50x50 cm). Lay a layer of compost on top and embed it into the soil.

When sowing seeds, dig up the bed and make longitudinal furrows. The planting material is covered with a nutritious soil mixture and then moistened.

Landing algorithm

Planting a seedling, plot or root shoots of buzulnik is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. The root is treated with a manganese solution and placed in a growth stimulator. The plot sections are treated with charcoal; no additional measures are needed.
  2. Make a hole so that it is 20 cm wider and deeper than the root system.
  3. A fertile mixture is poured onto the bottom.
  4. Place the buzulnik in the center and fall asleep.

After planting, water with settled water.

Important! The plant must be mulched to retain moisture longer.

To grow jagged buzulnik Osiris Fantasy from seeds, they are immersed in longitudinal furrows 1 cm deep. Sow at random, thin out the seedlings when they rise by 15 cm. Approximately 30 cm are maintained between bushes.

Before laying the material, the soil is moistened abundantly and maintained in this condition until germination

Watering and fertilizing schedule

If the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik is located in a damp area or near a reservoir, seasonal rainfall is enough for it. If the soil is dry, then water it every day in the morning or evening, covering 1.5 m around the plant. The seedlings are watered so that the soil is moistened, but there is no stagnation of water.

Feeding the buzulnik Osiris Fantasy is mandatory. There is enough organic matter for the bush; compost is added at any time during the growing season; it can be fertilized with a liquid product during watering. Nitrogen fertilizers are recommended in the spring, when the buzulnik grows its above-ground part.

Loosening and mulching

Mulch the bush immediately after planting, increase the layer of material in the fall, and renew it in the spring. It is better to use peat mixed with compost as mulch; straw is placed on top at the end of the season.

Loosening is not relevant for perennials. Weeds do not grow under the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik; mulch prevents the soil from drying out and crusting. Weeds are removed near the seedlings carefully so as not to damage the root located close to the soil surface.

Preparing for winter

After flowering, the peduncles of an adult plant are removed. The leaves do not lose their decorative properties until frost. The buzulnik is hilled up, the mulch is returned to its place and covered with straw.

After the temperature drops, the entire above-ground part of the seedling is cut off

In winter, the Osiris Fantasy buzulnik is covered with spruce branches, this is especially necessary for young plants with an undeveloped root system. If the buzulnik grows in the south, it is cut off and left under mulch until spring.

Diseases and pests

The wild species of buzulnik serratus gets sick very rarely. Hybrids are distinguished by more stable immunity; Osiris Fantasy practically does not get sick. Powdery mildew can affect the plant, but will not cause much harm to it. To prevent fungal spores from spreading to neighboring crops, buzulnik is treated with colloidal sulfur. Among the pests, slugs may appear; they are collected manually or the bush is treated with special preparations.

Conclusion

Buzulnik Osiris Fantasy is an ornamental perennial plant created by Dutch breeders based on a wild crop from Asia. A shade-tolerant, moisture-loving plant is widely used in design. The herbaceous shrub Osiris Fantasy is characterized by average frost resistance, so in regions with cold winters shelter is required.
