Titus weed killer: instructions for use

Titus herbicide is a powerful tool for destroying a large number of different types of weeds (both annual and perennial). Used for processing corn, potatoes and tomatoes. Relatively safe for humans and bees. Its cost is high, but the consumption is small - 0.5 g of powder is enough to process a hundred square meters.

Composition and release form

Titus is a broad-spectrum herbicide. Designed to destroy most annual and perennial weeds (cereals and dicotyledons): millet, creeping wheatgrass, common broom, empty oats, bluegrass, bristle grass, dandelion, plantain, henbane, forget-me-not, datura, spurge and others.

The active ingredient of the drug is rimsulfuron, which belongs to the class of sulfonylureas. Titus herbicide is produced in the form of a dry, flowing suspension. Packed in plastic containers (100 g). The manufacturer is DuPont Khimprom CJSC (Chuvashia, Russia).

Important! The drug can be stored under standard conditions at a temperature of 10-25 degrees Celsius.

The place should be dry and dark. Access to children should be excluded and protected from direct sunlight. The general shelf life is three years from the date of production.

Operating principle

Titus is a systemic herbicide. This means that the drug does not remain on the surface of the weed, but penetrates the vessels and then enters all tissues. The active substance rimsulfuron has the chemical formula C14H17N5O7S2.

The active component of the herbicide Titus, penetrating into the weed tissue, suppresses the synthesis of vital acids valine and isoleucine. As a result, DNA synthesis is inhibited and cell division is disrupted. This leads to massive death of the grass within 2-3 weeks after treatment.

The component is actively absorbed not only by the roots, but also by the leaves. Moreover, the solution forms a film on the surface that is resistant to washing off. Therefore, Titus herbicide also has an effect when applied in rainy weather. The first signs of damage are noticeable within a few hours. Weeds turn yellow, sometimes turning dark green or orange, even red or purple. Tissue necrosis and death of the apical bud are also noticeable. This is the last stage after which the plant dies.

The product destroys weeds within 1-2 weeks

Advantages and disadvantages

A review of the herbicide Titus and reviews about it shows that the drug has quite a few advantages.

The drug is a broad-spectrum herbicide, so it can be used to kill almost all common weeds

Pros:

  1. The active component penetrates through the leaves, so its effectiveness does not depend on how wet the soil is or whether there is a risk of leaching.
  2. Herbicide Titus is a systemic drug; its active substance moves through the vessels of the plant and blocks all growth points. Therefore, after a few hours the weeds begin to die off.
  3. The period of action is relatively short - complete death is observed after 15-20 days.
  4. There are no restrictions for growing subsequent plants and can be used in any crop rotation.
  5. Titus herbicide is slightly toxic to humans and insects.
  6. The components of the solution quickly decompose in the soil when interacting with water. They do not accumulate and disappear within 10-15 days after treatment. They do not spread with groundwater.
  7. Short waiting times - in fact, they are non-existent, although it is best to wait at least 3-5 days after the last treatment.

Minuses:

  1. Resistance develops after 3-5 years, so it is necessary to periodically treat with new drugs, otherwise there will be no result.
  2. Titus herbicide cannot be used for all crops - it is only suitable for tomatoes, potatoes and corn.
  3. Since the drug is released in concentrated form (powder), there is a risk of dust entering the respiratory system. Therefore, you need to work carefully, preferably wearing a mask and gloves.
  4. The use of Titus herbicide can cause yellowing and marbling of young leaves.
  5. The cost of the drug is quite high.
  6. In tank mixtures, Titus herbicide is not used with all drugs. It decomposes in acidic and alkaline environments.
  7. When daytime temperatures increase by more than 25 degrees, the effectiveness of treatment decreases.

The drug shows good effectiveness in protecting corn, tomatoes and potatoes

Preparation of working solution

According to the instructions for use, Titus Plus herbicide is used in the form of a solution. To prepare it, proceed as follows:

  4. Then bring to the total volume.
  5. Pour into a spray bottle and begin processing.
Important! Residues of Titus herbicide should not be poured into the sewer. Therefore, you need to prepare the product only in those volumes that can actually be used at a time.

Instructions for use of herbicide Titus

The product is intended for post-emergence treatment. Specific recommendations for use (dosage, frequency and other features) depend on the culture. In all cases, it is better to spray in warm and dry weather, in the absence of strong wind. The optimal temperature is from 15 to 25 degrees.

Titus on tomatoes

Tomatoes should be sprayed with Titus after three leaves appear. The consumption rate is 40 g per 1 ha, i.e. for one hundred square meters you need to spend only 0.4 g. This amount of powder is dissolved in 10 liters of water.

Titus on potatoes

Potatoes are processed after the appearance of 2-4 leaves, as well as immediately after hilling. The amount of the drug is 0.5 g per 1 hundred square meters. In this case, the waiting period is up to 15 days.

Treatment should be carried out already when the first shoots appear.

Titus on the corn

In this case, to prepare the solution, take 0.4 g per hundred square meters. This amount is dissolved in 10 liters of water and processing begins.

Important! Titus herbicide should not be used on popping corn, sweet corn, or the parent line used for seed production.

Duration of protective action

The period of protective action after treatment with Titus herbicide lasts from 14 to 28 days.As a rule, it is enough to carry out one treatment per season at the stage of appearance of the first shoots (up to 4-6 leaves). But sometimes it is advisable to carry out a second spraying after 3-4 weeks.

Compatibility with other tools

Titus herbicide has limited compatibility with drugs that produce an acidic or alkaline environment. It should only be used in a tank mixture with a neutral indicator. The drug must not be mixed with organophosphate insecticides. Such products are not used for two weeks after treatment with Titus.

Important! The instructions for use of Titus indicate good compatibility with the drug Trend.

Both products are produced as a mixture - 5 g and 20 ml, respectively. It is used to protect corn and potatoes from cereals and other weeds.

Security measures

Analogs of herbicide Titus

This drug has several analogues. “Maitus”, “Tanais”, “Tivitus” have a similar effect.

Conclusion

Titus herbicide can be used not only on personal farms, but also on farms. This product is well suited for protecting potatoes, tomatoes and corn. When growing other crops, it is better to purchase another drug.

Reviews of herbicide Titus

Pirogova Valentina, 39 years old, Astrakhan
Titus is a good remedy for weeds. I processed potatoes at my grandmother’s site next to the local river. It really destroys all weeds, and does not even harm root crops in any way - the harvest that year was as usual. But you must strictly follow the instructions.
Ivolgina Maria, 52 years old, Kostroma
Titus herbicide is expensive, but it was the one that helped me kill all the weeds. Other drugs act selectively - one is taken, the other is not. And in this regard, Titus is a real find. I can recommend it to everyone, especially since the active substance is destroyed in the soil in a few weeks, so there is no need to be afraid of “chemistry”.
