Herbicide Granstar Pro: instructions for use, reviews

Herbicide Granstar Pro is an effective preparation intended for the destruction of annual dicotyledonous weeds in grain crops, including sunflower. Due to its selective action, the pesticide can be used after the emergence of cultivated plants.

To clear sunflower of weeds, a single use of herbicide is sufficient.

Composition and release form

The active component of the Granstar Pro herbicide is tribenuron-methyl, which belongs to the chemical class of sulfonylureas. The content of the active substance in the finished product is 750 g/l.

The drug is produced in the form of water-soluble granules, packaged in plastic bottles with a capacity of 100 and 500 g.

The manufacturer of the Granstar herbicide is the American company DuPont, which occupies one of the leading positions in the chemical industry.

The drug is released in easy-to-use packaging

Operating principle

Once on the leaves and stems, tribenuron-methyl quickly moves through plant tissues, blocking the enzyme acetolactate synthase, necessary for the production of essential amino acids. As a result of this effect, cell division stops, the weeds stop growing and die after a while.

Attention! The first signs of wilting can be seen within a few hours after treatment; complete death of the weeds occurs after 20–30 days.

Advantages and disadvantages

Thanks to a whole list of advantages, the Granstar pesticide is one of the popular drugs for killing weeds in grain crops and sunflowers. This herbicide has very few disadvantages.

After treatment with Granstar herbicide, a short-term slowdown in sunflower growth is possible

Pros:

  • reasonable price and low consumption;
  • fast and effective action;
  • destroys all types of annual dicotyledonous weeds in grain crops;
  • does not have a negative impact on the development of cultivated plants;
  • can be combined in one tank mixture with other drugs;
  • in small quantities does not pose a serious danger to people and animals;
  • quickly decomposes in the soil without causing harm to subsequent crops;
  • it is possible to cultivate fields using aviation.

Minuses:

  • has an unpleasant pungent odor;
  • If the dosage is incorrect, it can cause burns to cultivated plants.

Preparation of working solution

The working solution of Granstar herbicide retains its beneficial properties throughout the day, so it must be made on the day of use.

During work:

  • The dose of the drug indicated in the instructions is dissolved in a small amount of water;
  • Fill the sprayer tank halfway with water and, stirring continuously, pour in the mother solution;
  • add water until the desired volume is obtained.

When combining Granstar and Trend 90 (or another wetting agent) in one tank mixture, the latter is added after pouring in the herbicide stock solution.

The consumption rate of the working solution when spraying by ground means is 200-300 l/ha; when processing fields by air, a smaller amount of the drug will be required - 50-75 l/ha.

Important! When combining a herbicide with other chemicals, Granstar is always added to the water first.

The working solution is made no earlier than four hours before treatment

Instructions for use and consumption rate of Granstar herbicide

The Granstar herbicide that goes on sale is equipped with instructions for using this product, which indicate the rules for processing grain crops, application rates of the drug and the sequence of preparation of the working solution.

Manufacturers of Granstar Pro recommend:

  1. Spray grain crops in the leaf phase before tillering and at the early stage of weed growth (2-4 leaves).
  2. Carry out the treatment in calm weather with air humidity of at least 50%.
  3. Do not use the product on plants that are wet from dew or rain.
  4. Do not till fields if rain is expected that day.
  5. If fields with vegetable crops are located close to each other, it is better to abandon the aerial method of spraying herbicide.
  6. To destroy weeds in too dense crops or in the presence of too many weeds, increase the concentration of the working solution.
  7. In the presence of difficult-to-remove weeds, surfactant preparations such as Trend 90 are used to improve the penetration of the herbicide into tissues and increase the efficiency of treatment.
  8. It is not recommended to treat grain crops that are damaged by pests or under stress due to recurrent frosts, drought or prolonged rains with herbicide.
Warning! In dry, hot weather, the effectiveness of the herbicide decreases.

On the eve of processing, it doesn’t hurt to check the weather forecast.

Compatibility with other tools

It is allowed to use Granstar herbicide in tank mixtures or sequentially with insecticidal or fungicidal preparations intended for the treatment of grain crops.

It is not recommended to mix the pesticide with insecticides containing organophosphorus compounds.

To improve spraying efficiency, it makes sense to combine two types of pesticides in one mixture.

Suitable companions for Granstar in fields with shelling peas, wheat, rye and sunflower are:

  • Dicamb, Fluroxypyr - for the destruction of such difficult-to-remove weeds as field bindweed and tenacious bedstraw;
  • Harmony, Trend 90 – to suppress the growth of bedstraw, thistle, bindweed, white goosefoot, thistle and cornflower.
Warning! On oat crops, the use of Trend 90 in combination with Granstar is prohibited.

The use of Granstar herbicide makes it possible to obtain a clean grain harvest

Security measures

According to the degree of toxicity, Granstar herbicide is classified as a third class of hazard for people and animals. This suggests that it does not pose a serious health threat.However, contact of the drug on open areas of the body, as well as the mucous membranes of the eyes and mouth, can cause an allergic reaction.

Compliance with safety rules when working with herbicide will help prevent such troubles.

Experts recommend:

  1. To prepare stock and working solutions, use containers not intended for preparing and storing food.
  2. Treat crops in special clothing with long sleeves. It is advisable to wear rubber boots on your feet.
  3. Do not allow the drug to come into contact with open areas of the body and mucous membranes of the eyes and mouth. To do this, gloves are put on your hands, and your eyes and mouth are protected with a respirator and special goggles.
  4. While working with the herbicide, drinking, smoking and eating are prohibited.
  5. Avoid the presence of people without personal protective equipment in the treated area.
  6. When spraying crops from the air, install warning signs around the perimeter of the field.
  7. If the working solution gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with plenty of clean running water.
  8. After finishing work, take a shower and wash your work clothes using synthetic detergents.
  9. Dispose of the remaining working solution out of the reach of children and animals (can be poured into the sewer).

If an allergic reaction or other unpleasant symptoms occur, seek help from a medical facility.

Attention! Granstar should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area away from food and medications.

It is advisable to work with pesticides no more than once every three days

Analogues

To treat fields against weeds, you can use both Granstar and its analogues - herbicides, the active ingredient of which is tribenuron-methyl. The most popular today are Gersotil, Mistard, Trizlak, and Sheriff.

Conclusion

Herbicide Granstar will clear weeds from wheat, rye or sunflower crops in a short time. And the ability of the drug to quickly decompose into components that do not cause harm to subsequent crops makes it possible to fully comply with the rules of crop rotation.

Irina Pozdneva, Moscow
I tried to treat a plot of sunflowers with Granstar. At first it seemed that the seedlings had stopped growing, but then everything returned to normal. And the grass disappeared quickly.
Konstantin Makeev, Voronezh
I treated the paths at the dacha with Granstar herbicide before laying paving slabs. I'm happy with the result, the grass was completely burnt out. I will use it again.
