Weeds - the scourge of any gardener. Even with all the rules of agricultural technology and constant weeding, they appear again and again. Why is this happening?
Reasons for the appearance of weeds in the garden
- The seeds of most weeds remain viable for many years. When cultivating the soil, they fall on its surface and rush to rise.
- In many plants, seeds are carried by the wind, sometimes over long distances. They can be carried on shoes and clothing and even by water flow. Mow roadsides and other areas where weeds grow before they bloom to avoid creating conditions for them to multiply.
- Malicious perennial weeds have an extensive root system, which is not completely destroyed even with repeated weeding.
- The seed productivity of most weeds is impressive. Cultivated plants cannot compare with them in this.
- Weeds are very tenacious and easily adapt to any living conditions.
If everything is so bad and weed removal turns into endless military actions in which the victory of gardeners is only a temporary phenomenon, what to do about it? Of course, we cannot give up. If you do not fight weeds, cultivated plants simply have no chance of producing a decent harvest. The ways in which weeds can be controlled are varied: from the usual manual weeding to mulching the soil with various available materials. For all of them to give the desired effect, you need to use them correctly.
The best days for weeding
There are days when hand weeding will be most effective. If you carry it out in the morning of June 18, not a single weeded weed will sprout again, and the roots remaining in the soil will die. Another method is known that significantly increases the efficiency of this process. Vegetable beds should be dug up at a time when the new moon is in the sign of Leo. This will provoke the germination of all even the weakest weed seeds that are in the soil. Let them grow up a little. Weeding should be done during the days of Capricorn on the waning moon. If everything is done correctly, the weeds in such a garden bed will not bother the gardener for very long.
Chemistry in weed control
Gardeners come to the aid of chemicals - herbicides that can destroy even the most persistent weeds.
Characteristics of herbicides
Based on their action, herbicides are divided into two groups.
- Contact. They act on plants only at the point of contact with the herbicide.
- System. They not only act on the surface, but are also able to penetrate inside the plant, moving through its vessels, i.e., acting both from the outside and from the inside. Such herbicides kill weeds with a deep and widespread root system.
According to their selectivity, herbicides can be divided into:
- selective, acting either on one plant or on a group of plants; often used even during the growing season of the main crop.
- continuous action, which are capable of destroying all weeds; most often used pre-emergence or post-harvest.
This division can be considered conditional, since the effect of the herbicide strongly depends on its concentration.
Weeds are killed by herbicides because they interfere with the metabolism of weeds. Once inside the plant cell, herbicides decompose into toxic or non-toxic compounds.
How Glider fights weeds
The safety of a weed killer is very important. In this regard, the herbicide Glider is one of the best. It is a continuous action drug. Glyphosate, a derivative of the amino acid glycine, suppresses weeds.
This is the brother of the herbicides Tornado, Roundup, Hurricane and Glyfor. This variety of names of products similar in action and composition is explained by the fact that the company that originated Roundup, Monsanto, lost the patent for the use of the glyphosate molecule as a herbicide due to the fact that its validity period had expired. This freed up the hands of other manufacturers of similar products.
How it works
Glider is a systemic herbicide. It penetrates very quickly, in just 6 hours, inside plants, and after 5 days reaches their roots, inhibiting, i.e. slowing down photosynthesis, thanks to which plants exist. After 5 days, chlorosis can be seen in the plants, and the weeds die completely after a couple of weeks. The drug quickly disintegrates in the soil into substances that are not dangerous to humans. Glider has no effect on plant seeds.
The effectiveness of such processing will be low. Do not treat weeds in hot weather.
The instructions for using Weed Glider recommend using it against shrubs and even trees.
The effect on plants depends on the concentration of the drug. Most often it is used for pre-sowing treatment in potato fields and vegetable beds. For a potato field, a solution with a concentration of 120 ml per 10 liters is used, and for other beds, 80 ml for the same amount of water is sufficient. The prepared solution is enough for 2 acres. If an area not intended for sowing is cultivated, the concentration will be the same.
Application
The instructions for use indicate that the drug should be prepared on the day of use and used immediately. The concentration of the solution is selected in accordance with the requirements for the weeds being treated. In a potato field, spraying is carried out 4-5 days before possible germination.
Release form: 100 and 60 ml bottles and canisters containing 20 liters of aqueous solution.
Glider is a good replacement for pre-sowing weeding.
