Tomato Novelty of Transnistria began its history back in 1967. The variety was obtained by Moldovan breeders on the basis of the Novinka sample, bred, in turn, by scientists of the All-Union Institute of Plant Growing.
Characteristics and description of the variety
According to technical characteristics, the tomato variety belongs to the mid-early variety. The fruits ripen 112–124 days after emergence. You can get 9 - 10 kg of tomatoes from 1 sq. m.
Description of the variety New from Transnistria: the plant is not standard, determinate, bush 40 - 80 cm high. Determinate tomatoes stop growing after setting about 5 clusters. In determinate varieties, the removal of stepsons is required; if this is not done, the plant will be overloaded with fruits. And the fruits will ripen much later. The first brush in determinate varieties is formed after 5 - 6 leaves, and the next ones every 2 leaves.
Tomatoes are cylindrical in shape, even, smooth. Fruit weight 36 – 56 g. Taste is good. Suitable for preparing fresh salads, but more suitable for canning whole fruits. Tomatoes ripen together, en masse. The biological maturity of the fruit is determined by a pale green color; in technical maturity, the fruits are bright red in color. Suitable for rare collection, transportation, storage.
Suitable for growing in open ground in areas where the climate allows for ripe tomatoes. In colder regions, growing in protected soil is advisable. In a greenhouse, as a rule, plants grow taller, so they will need to be staked.
Seeds are sown for seedlings in the second half of March. In compliance with temperature and light standards.
To make the seeds germinate faster, make a mini greenhouse by covering the seedling container with film or glass. The temperature for the speedy emergence of seedlings should be at least 24 degrees. 4 – 5 days will pass and the first shoots will appear. Water the seedlings after the top layer of soil has dried with warm water at about 20 degrees.
With the appearance of the first true leaves, the plants are ready for picking. They are placed in individual containers. It is convenient to use dairy product bags. Make drainage holes at the bottom.
Do I need to feed seedlings? The appearance of the plants will tell you. A strong plant with rich green leaves does not require fertilizing.
Very elongated plants with pale leaves should be hardened off, watered less, and complex fertilizers applied. You can use ready-made fertilizers for seedlings.
After 2 months, the seedlings are ready for planting in the ground. In mid-May - in a greenhouse, and in early June - in open ground. Plant while maintaining a certain distance: 50 cm between rows and 40 cm between tomato bushes.
To do this, dilute 2 - 3 g of copper sulfate in 3 liters of hot water, cool and spray the plants. Another way: dilute 1 tablet of trichopolum in 1 liter of water, spray the seedlings.
Regular care consists of watering the plants, timely removal weed and regular feeding. The harvest ripens from July to September.
