Tomato Chibli F1

Tomato is one of the favorite crops among gardeners. What attracts people is not only the excellent taste of this vegetable, but also the ability to widely use it for preparing various dishes and preparations. There are universal varieties of tomatoes that are equally good in any form. But they cannot be maximally suitable for any purpose. A tomato intended for making juice should contain as much of it as possible, and a tomato from which tomato paste is made should contain the most dry matter. And these are mutually exclusive properties. It is quite difficult to develop a variety that would meet any one specific requirement without genetic engineering. It is much easier to do this by creating a hybrid.

What is a tomato hybrid

At the beginning of the 20th century, American breeders Shell and Jones carried out work on corn hybridization and were very successful in this. Their technique was used to develop hybrid varieties of nightshade crops, including tomatoes, which soon appeared on the market.

During hybridization, the genes of the parents are inherited, which give the hybrid certain properties taken from each of them. Parental tomato varieties are selected in accordance with what qualities would be desired in the new plant. If you cross a tomato variety that has large fruits but low yield with another variety that is productive but has small fruits, there is a high probability of obtaining a productive hybrid with large fruits. Genetics allows you to select parents for hybrids purposefully and achieve the desired result. The vitality of hybrids is higher than that of the parent forms. This phenomenon is called heterosis. It has been noticed that it is higher in those hybrids whose parents have more differences.

Important! There is appropriate marking to identify hybrids. It is available on every bag of hybrid tomato. The name is appended with the English letter F and the number 1.

Tomato Chibli f1 is a heterotic hybrid of the first generation. It is grown specifically for canning. The thick skin will not burst if you pour boiling water over it when placing it in jars for pickling. The high dry matter content makes the fruit dense. These pickled tomatoes can easily be cut with a knife. Chibli f1 can be used to make excellent tomato paste. This does not mean that it cannot be eaten raw. It is quite possible to make a salad from it, but its taste will be somewhat different from the usual traditional varieties of tomatoes. If you decide to plant this tomato in your garden, let's get to know it better, and for this we will give it a full description and characteristics and look at the photo.

Description and characteristics of the hybrid

The Chibli f1 hybrid was first bred at the former Swiss and now Chinese seed company Syngenta. It turned out to be so successful that many seed companies have bought the technology for producing this hybrid and are producing seeds themselves. In the south of our country there are seed farms that work under the partnership program of Syngenta and produce seeds using its technology.

The Chibli f1 tomato was included in the State Register of Agricultural Achievements in 2003. Since then, it has received many positive reviews from both amateur gardeners and professionals who grow tomatoes industrially.

Important! It is zoned in all regions.

The tomato hybrid Chibli f1 is classified as mid-early. When sown directly into the ground, the first fruits begin to ripen after 100 days. If you use the seedling growing method, the harvest begins 70 days after the seedlings were planted.

The Chibli f1 tomato bush is characterized by vigorous growth and produces a large number of leaves, so in the south the fruits do not suffer from sunburn. In the northern regions, it is enough to remove the leaves after the first cluster has formed. It is laid over 7 or 8 sheets.

Chibli f1 is a determinate tomato; its height does not exceed 60 cm. The plant is quite compact, so it can be planted according to a 40x50 cm pattern.

Tomato Chibli f1 has a powerful root system, especially when sown directly into the ground, so it tolerates drought well and more.

This tomato adapts perfectly to any growing conditions, which is why it is zoned everywhere. Strong roots perfectly nourish the plant, allowing it to form a significant fruit harvest - 4.3 kg per square meter. m.

The fruits, like all hybrids, are one-dimensional, have an attractive cuboid-oval shape and a bright red color. The weight of one tomato ranges from 100 to 120 g. It looks great in jars; the thick skin does not crack during canning. The taste of pickled tomatoes is excellent.Dense fruits with a dry matter content of up to 5.8% produce tasty tomato paste. In its raw form, the Chibli f1 tomato is quite suitable for summer salads.

Like other Syngenta hybrids, the Chibli f1 tomato has high vitality and does not suffer from viral diseases such as Fusarium and Verticillium wilt. Nematodes don't like it either.

Dense fruits are stored for a long time, they can be transported over long distances without loss of quality. The photo shows tomatoes prepared for transportation.

Attention! The Chibli f1 tomato is not suitable for mechanized harvesting; it is harvested only by hand.

Hybrid tomatoes exhibit all their positive qualities only with a high level of agricultural technology and compliance with all growing rules.

Features of care

Tomato Chibli f1 is intended for growing in open ground. In the southern regions there are no problems with heat. In the middle zone and further north in summer there is a large difference between day and night temperatures, which leads to stress in plants. At temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, Chibli f1 stops growing. And such cold nights are not uncommon even in summer. To make the plants comfortable, it is advisable to provide temporary shelters - cover the plants with a film draped over the arches at night. In cold and damp weather, it is not removed during the day to protect tomatoes from late blight.

Without seedlings, the Chibli f1 hybrid can only be grown in the south. Sown in the ground in the middle zone and further north, it simply will not have time to reveal its potential, since the soil warms up slowly in the spring.

How to grow seedlings

Typically, Syngenta seeds are already prepared for sowing and treated with all the necessary substances, so they do not need to be treated or soaked. They germinate a couple of days earlier than seeds from other companies.

Attention! Such seeds can be stored for a long time only at a temperature of 3 to 7 degrees Celsius and low air humidity. Under these conditions, their shelf life reaches 22 months.

When preparing the soil for sowing seeds of the Chibli f1 hybrid, you need to remember that its temperature should be about 25 degrees. It is in this case that the seeds will sprout quickly and amicably.

To get high-quality stocky seedlings, immediately after germination, maintain the temperature within 20 degrees during the day and 17 degrees at night. In case of insufficient lighting, it is necessary to organize additional illumination of Chibli f1 tomato seedlings.

Advice! Sprouted seedlings are sprayed with warm water from a spray bottle.

After the formation of two true leaves, the seedlings are planted in separate containers. Seedlings of this hybrid are planted in the ground at the age of 35-40 days. By this point, it should have at least 7 leaves and a well-defined flower cluster.

Advice! If the Chibli f1 seedlings have overgrown and the first cluster has already blossomed, it is better to remove it, otherwise the plant may terminate prematurely, i.e., stop growing.

Further care for tomato

Chibli f1 tomato seedlings can be planted in the ground when the soil has warmed to a temperature of 15 degrees. In colder soil, tomato roots can only absorb nitrogen; other nutrients are unavailable to them. Watering for Chibli f1 tomato is best done by drip. It allows you to use water to the maximum and maintain soil and air humidity at an optimal level. With this method of watering, it can be easily combined with fertilizing with soluble complex fertilizers, which should contain not only macro, but also microelements. With the usual method of watering, Chibli f1 tomatoes should be fed once every ten days. If you divide the amount of fertilizer used for a single feeding by 10 and add this dose to a container for daily drip irrigation, the plants will be provided with nutrition more evenly.

Tomato Chibli f1 should be formed into 2 stems, leaving the stepson under the first flower cluster as the second stem. The remaining stepsons are removed, as well as the lower leaves when the fruits on the first cluster are fully formed. In the southern regions you can do without formation.

Advice! For normal fruiting of the Chibli f1 tomato, the number of leaves on the plant should not be less than 14.

The Chibli f1 tomato crop must be harvested on time so that all the fruits ripen in the open ground.

If you like pickled tomatoes, plant the hybrid Chibli f1. Excellent canned tomatoes will delight you all winter.

Reviews

Anna, 28 years old, Rostov region
I love growing tomatoes, and especially making preparations from them. I still have little experience as a gardener, so I listen to the opinions of professionals with extensive experience. Last year I read about productive tomato hybrids. Chibli f1 was highly recommended, they wrote that it was productive and had a good taste. I found some seeds and sowed them this year. And, indeed, the harvest of the Chibli f1 tomato is decent. I used some canned tomatoes, made some tomato paste, and had some left over for juice. I will plant it next year too.

I love working in the garden. I didn’t plant any kind of tomatoes. But the trouble is, we have problems with water. It is not always possible to water all the plants to the fullest. I decided to switch to hybrids - they withstand drought better. I saw the seeds of the Chibli f1 hybrid in the store. I liked the appearance: beautiful and the size - convenient to put in a jar or use for juice. I sowed and did not regret it. I watered Chibli f1 tomatoes less often than usual, but the harvest was good. Enough for everything. Next year I will plant it again and try some other hybrids.
