Tomato Batyanya: characteristics and description of the variety

In recent years, growing tomatoes, and other garden crops in open ground, has been associated with many difficulties, which are caused by the weather for summer residents and gardeners. Apparently due to the difficult environmental situation, it has become so unpredictable that not only the weather forecast bureau, but also folk signs are unable to cope with their task. Unexpected frosts give way to prolonged drought or, conversely, a long period of heavy rains, after which late blight begins to rage. In these conditions, it is especially important to pay attention to varieties specially bred to withstand adverse weather conditions.

There are such varieties among tomatoes. The Siberian Garden company specializes in breeding tomato varieties that can grow and produce good yields of tasty and healthy fruits in the difficult climatic conditions of Siberia.

Tomato Batyanya, the characteristics and description of the variety of which this article is devoted to, refers to just such tomatoes. It is quite capable of bearing fruit in open ground conditions even beyond the Urals and producing large and sweet fruits.

Features of the variety

The Batyanya tomato variety was bred in 2007 by Siberian breeders O. V. Postnikova and V. N. Dederko. In 2008, it was included in the State Register with recommendations for cultivation throughout Russia in open ground and under special shelters.

The variety can be classified as indeterminate; tomato plants have unlimited growth and can grow up to 2.2 meters in greenhouse conditions.

Attention! According to reviews, it sets tomatoes equally well both in greenhouse conditions and in open ground.

Tomato bushes are quite powerful, branch well and produce strong growth with long stems, so they require mandatory pinching and staking.

The leaves are large, dark green. Plants are characterized by simple inflorescences. There are 8-10 flowers on one bush, from which an average of about 6 fruits are produced.

One of the positive aspects that distinguishes this variety is its early ripening. The first tomatoes can begin to ripen within 90 days from the moment of mass emergence. However, under unfavorable growth conditions, this moment may occur in 100-105 days. The fruiting period is quite extended, which is very convenient for a personal plot, since it allows you to gradually collect ripening fruits even from several bushes.

As for yield, there is some uncertainty in this matter for Batyan tomatoes. Since the official description of the Batyanya tomato variety in the State Register indicates a yield of 1-2 kg of tomatoes per bush, while many other sources indicate a more significant yield characteristic of 5-6 kg per bush.

Comment! Tomato bushes of this variety are distinguished by their unpretentiousness to growing conditions and are even able to withstand slight drops in temperature without catastrophic consequences.

There is no reliable information on disease resistance in the description of the variety, but reviews from gardeners indicate that the Batyanya tomato is quite resistant to many common nightshade diseases.

Fruit characteristics

The variety apparently received its peculiar name due to its fruits - weighty, heavy, strong and juicy.

The Batyanya variety is distinguished by the shape of its fruit, which especially attracts most gardeners - they are round, slightly heart-shaped with a small nose, without ribbing. The peduncle has an articulation.

Tomatoes are pink or raspberry in color, the flesh is juicy and fleshy with small seed chambers. Accordingly, there are very few seeds in tomatoes of this variety, which greatly upsets gardeners who want to grow the Batyanya variety for themselves and their friends. At the base of the stalk, even at the ripening stage, a large dark green spot is observed on the tomatoes, which turns yellow as it ripens.

Tomatoes of this variety are large in size, which, by the way, is rare among early-ripening tomatoes. On average, the weight of the fruit is 200-300 grams, but some specimens can reach up to 700 grams.

Attention! Some gardeners notice that, unlike other varieties, with sufficient feeding, the size and weight of the fruits do not decrease over time, and even on the upper tiers of the bushes you can see large tomatoes.

The skin of tomatoes is quite dense, which allows the fruits not to crack under any conditions. Accordingly, tomatoes are stored quite well and even tolerate transportation well, which is a rarity among pink and raspberry-colored fruits.

The taste of tomatoes is rated by expert tasters as a four, which does not prevent some gardeners from admiring its sweetness, while others criticize it and even call it bland. But as you know, taste is one of the most subjective characteristics, which also has a strong dependence on growing conditions and feeding.

The main purpose of Batyanya tomatoes is salad, which does not prevent many housewives from using it for making juices, ketchups, tomato pastes and for mixing various assorted vegetables with tomatoes for the winter.

Stages of cultivation - from seedlings to harvest

Like most even early-ripening tomatoes, tomatoes of this variety must be grown using seedlings. Since some gardeners complain that the seeds of this variety do not germinate very well, it is advisable to check them for germination before sowing, even if you purchased the seeds from a reliable place. The procedure itself is not at all complicated. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt completely in a glass of warm water. Then drop the tomato seeds into the glass. All seeds ready to germinate should sink to the bottom within 3-5 minutes. It is better to remove floating seeds so that they do not take up excess planting space.

Important! After this procedure, do not forget to rinse the sunken full-fledged seeds well under running water so that no traces of salt remain on them.

Germinate tomato seeds in a warm and dark place. Sowing is carried out approximately 60 days before planting in a greenhouse or in open ground beds. The first shoots usually appear 3-7 days after sowing. Immediately after emergence, the seedlings should be placed in the light and, if possible, the temperature should be reduced, especially at night, by 5-7 degrees. This will allow the plants to develop a strong root system and not grow too long.

If you sow the seeds in a common container, do not forget to prick the seedlings after the first true tomato leaves appear.

Before planting in the ground in a permanent place of growth, it is advisable to feed the tomato plant several times. It is good to do this using natural home remedies - whey, wood ash or hydrogen peroxide.

Since tomatoes of this variety are characterized by significant growth and branching, when planting, do not plant more than 3 plants per square meter. For a denser pattern, the bushes must be kept strictly in one stem, otherwise the tomatoes will not have enough sunlight to fully ripen.

Attention! According to the usual scheme, Batyan tomatoes are formed into two stems. In this way, you can get a sufficient number of large-sized fruits.

In order for the yield of tomatoes of this variety to please you, you need to regularly feed, water and tie up the stems of the bushes. Pruning is also necessary, otherwise the tomato will devote all its energy to growing greenery and not to ripening the fruit.

Reviews about the Batyanya variety

Reviews about the Batyanya tomato, the description of the variety and photo of which you saw above, are very diverse. Sometimes you might think that we are talking about completely different varieties of tomato. Apparently, due to the popularity of the variety, there are many fake seeds that are often not related to the true variety. Therefore, be especially careful when purchasing tomato seeds of this variety.

Evgeniya, 45 years old, Tyumen region
To be honest, I didn’t like the Batyanya variety of tomato seedlings. She was kind of frail, so she kept only a few bushes for herself - she gave away the rest, which she later regretted a little. The tomatoes grew large, fleshy, and sweet. Although I planted them even in three trunks, this did not affect the yield in any way. In general, I am very pleased with the variety and will plant it again.
Tatyana, 52 years old, Yekaterinburg city
I planted this variety both in a greenhouse and in open ground and didn’t notice much of a difference. It set fruit perfectly everywhere and was one of the first to ripen in open ground. The tomatoes are large, juicy - I made juice out of them for the whole winter, and eating them in salads was very tasty. I recommend these tomatoes.

Batyani's seedlings were simply a sight for sore eyes - both strong and tall. I planted it in open ground and a couple of bushes in a greenhouse for testing. Magnificent tomatoes – they live up to their name. Just don’t forget to feed and water them, especially with potassium fertilizers, and you won’t have any worries.

I didn't like the variety at all. Half of the seeds did not germinate, the seedlings were all frail, and the tomatoes were not at all impressed with the taste, they were real grass. I won't plant any more.
Nadezhda, 39 years old, Tolyatti
Batyan's tomatoes are simply wonderful, tasty and juicy and store well for such an early variety. Already in July, everyone was feasting on tomatoes. The only thing is that there is a yellow spot at the base, it spoils the appearance, but, probably, I did something wrong with the fertilizing.

Conclusion

If you are interested in the characteristics and reviews of the Batyanya tomato, try growing tomatoes of this variety yourself. In any case, it is worth paying attention to the variety, since the choice of a suitable tomato variety for unfavorable conditions is relatively small.
