The gardening season just recently ended. Some people are still eating the last tomatoes collected from their garden. Only a few months will pass and the time will come to sow new seedlings. Already, many gardeners are thinking about what varieties of tomatoes will be sown next year. Why only varieties? All foreign countries have long switched to tomato hybrids, and are harvesting large harvests of tomatoes.
What to plant: variety or hybrid
Many gardeners believe that:
- hybrid seeds are expensive;
- the taste of hybrids leaves much to be desired;
- Hybrids require careful care.
There is some rational grain in all this, but let’s look at everything in order.
On the issue of the high cost of seeds. When buying tomato seeds, by the way, they are not so cheap, we often take a “pig in a poke”, since mis-grading is becoming more and more common. Many gardeners can remember a situation when from a colorful bag of tomato seeds, not strong plants, but puny sprouts grew. The time for reseeding seeds has already passed; during the season, purchased tomato seedlings are expensive, so you have to plant what has grown. And the end result is a greenhouse or greenhouse with a small number of tomatoes that do not correspond to the variety. The efforts that the gardener put into obtaining a significant harvest were wasted.
The bad taste of hybrid tomatoes can also be argued.Yes, old hybrids are more beautiful and transportable than tasty. But breeders develop new hybrid tomatoes every year, constantly improving their taste. Among their wide variety, it is quite possible to find those that will not disappoint.
On the issue of care. Of course, varietal tomatoes can “forgive” gardeners for some errors in care, and hybrids show maximum yield potential only with a high agricultural background. But for such results it is not a pity and will work hard, especially if there is confidence in a guaranteed harvest. And this is possible when the seeds are purchased from a manufacturer with a consistently high reputation, such as the Japanese company Kitano Seeds. Its motto: “New technologies for new results” is justified by the high quality of the planting material produced and sold. Among its seeds there are many hybrid tomatoes, in particular, the seeds of the Asvon f1 tomato, a photo and description of which are presented below.
Description and characteristics of the hybrid
The Asvon f1 tomato is not included in the State Register of Agricultural Achievements, as it has not yet been tested. But it already has a lot of positive reviews from those who have tried it on their plots. Tomato Asvon f1 is intended for cultivation in open ground and greenhouses.
The bushes of the Asvon f1 hybrid are determinate, low, do not grow higher than 45 cm, and are compact. They do not require formation, so they do not become stepson. Despite its small size, the growth vigor of the Asvon f1 hybrid is great. The bush is well leafed. In the south, the fruits of the Asvon f1 hybrid are not at risk of sunburn, since they are securely hidden in the foliage.
More information about growing the Asvon f1 tomato in the Krasnodar Territory can be seen in the video:
Tomato Asvon f1 has an early ripening period; the first fruits can be harvested after 95 days from germination. In cool summers, this period is extended to 100 days. The Asvon f1 hybrid bears fruit for a long time, since the bush is capable of producing up to 100 tomatoes. Hence the highest yield - up to 1 ton per hundred square meters.
The fruits of the Asvon f1 hybrid are light in weight - from 70 to 90 g. They have an oval-round shape and a bright, rich red color. All the fruits of the hybrid are uniform and do not shrink during fruiting. The thick skin prevents them from cracking even with a sharp change in soil moisture.
The content of dry substances in the dense pulp of the fruits of the Asvon f1 hybrid is very high - up to 6%, which allows not only to transport them over long distances without loss of quality, but also to prepare excellent tomato paste. They are especially good when preserved whole. The Asvon f1 tomato has a pleasant-tasting pulp consistency, a balanced content of acids and sugars, and makes delicious salads. The juice from this hybrid tomato is very thick. Tomato Asvon f1 is also well suited for drying.
Like all tomato hybrids, Asvon f1 has great vitality, so it tolerates heat and drought well, continuing to set fruits and without reducing their size. Tomato Asvon f1 is resistant to bacterial, verticillium and fusarium wilt, and is not susceptible to root and blossom end rot, as well as bacterial spotting of fruits.
To get the harvest declared by the manufacturer, you must adhere to all the rules for caring for the Asvon f1 tomato.
Features of cultivation
The tomato harvest begins with seedlings. In the middle zone and further north you cannot do without it. In the southern regions, the Asvon f1 hybrid is grown by sowing in open ground, filling the early produce market with its fruits.
Growing seedlings
On sale there are processed and unprocessed, but always polished, Asvon f1 tomato seeds. In the first case, they are immediately sown dry. In the second, you will have to work hard and hold them for 0.5 hours in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, rinse and soak for 18 hours in a biostimulator solution. Epin, Humate, and aloe juice diluted in half with water can act in this capacity.
The soil mixture for sowing Asvon f1 tomato seeds should be loose and fertile, well saturated with air and moisture. A mixture of sand and humus, taken in equal parts, is suitable. Add a glass of ash to each bucket of mixture. Before sowing, the soil is moistened.
If you decide to grow Asvon f1 tomatoes without picking, plant 2 seeds in each separate pot or cassette. After germination, the excess seedling is not pulled out, but carefully cut into a stump. For planted seedlings, sow the seeds in a container to a depth of about 2 cm and at the same distance from each other.
In order for the seeds of the Asvon f1 hybrid to germinate quickly and amicably, the container with them must be kept warm.The easiest way is to put a plastic bag on it and place it near the battery.
As soon as the first loops of seedlings appear, place the containers on the windowsill. It should not only be light, but also cool, then the seedlings will not stretch out and will grow stocky and strong. After 3-5 days, the temperature is slightly increased and maintained at 20 degrees during the day and 17 degrees at night.
Grown seedlings with 2 true leaves are dived into separate cups, trying to pinch the central root a little, but saving the side roots as much as possible.
Hybrid tomato seedlings Asvon f1 grow quickly and are ready for planting in 35-40 days. During growth, it is fed 1-2 times with a weak solution of complex mineral fertilizer.
Asvon f1 tomato seedlings are planted when the soil temperature is at least 15 degrees. Before planting, it should be hardened off for a week by taking it out into the fresh air and gradually increasing the time spent outside.
Further care
To produce maximum yield, the Asvon f1 tomato hybrid needs fertile soil. It is prepared in the fall, seasoned well with humus and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
Planted seedlings will require regular watering, which is combined with fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizers, which necessarily contain microelements, once a decade. After each watering, it is advisable to loosen the soil to a depth of no more than 5 cm. This way it will be saturated with air, and the roots of the tomato will not be disturbed.The Asvon f1 hybrid does not need to be formed. In the middle zone and to the north, they lighten the bush by removing the lower leaves to give more sun to the formed fruits on the lower cluster. In the south this procedure is not necessary.
The Asvon f1 tomato combines all the best properties of hybrids and at the same time has the taste of real varietal tomatoes. This industrial tomato will not only be a boon for farms. It will delight amateur gardeners with an excellent harvest and good taste of fruits.
