Elmundo is one of the hardiest varieties of Dutch selection

Pros:

  • stable high yield;
  • early ripening;
  • marketable condition;
  • undemanding to soil;
  • long-term storage;
  • good immunity to diseases;
  • pleasant taste;
  • resistance to cold and drought.

Minuses:

  • susceptibility to late blight;
  • poor cooking ability;
  • deformation of tubers in soil with a high acid reaction.

Landing Features

Elmundo is a potato that can grow in almost any soil, but prefers a loose substrate. The variety is suitable for turf, loamy, leafy, sandy soil. The main recommendation is to ensure that the soil has low acidity levels. With a high concentration, the tubers will develop poorly, become deformed, and lose their presentation. The plant develops best in elevated, well-lit and ventilated areas, without strong gusts of wind. It shows excellent results in the place where green manure was sown before winter.

Attention! To prevent the tops of plants from stretching, it is advisable that the bushes are illuminated by sunlight throughout the day.

Elmundo potatoes are usually planted in early May, but in southern latitudes work can begin as early as the end of April. Actions are usually performed according to the following scheme:

  1. The area dug up and fertilized with mullein in the fall is treated with herbicides.
  2. Healthy and large sprouted tubers are soaked in potassium permanganate or growth stimulants.
  3. The treated planting material is planted in holes at a distance of 35 cm from each other to a depth of 10 cm; an interval of 65 cm is left between the rows.
Attention! It is advisable to pour wood ash into each hole during planting.

As a predecessor for Elmundo, it is better to choose beets, cabbage, legumes, carrots

Care instructions

Despite the fact that the variety is considered not picky, basic rules for caring for plantings must be followed. They consist of simple agrotechnical procedures:

  1. Watering. After the Elmundo potato has been planted, it is not moistened. The first time watering is carried out only when the first shoots appear on the soil surface. Although the variety is considered drought-resistant, plantings should be irrigated regularly, during dry weather every three days, during cool conditions once a week. It is impossible to allow the formation of a dry crust on the surface of the earth. After moistening the soil, it is recommended to loosen it and get rid of weeds.
  2. Hilling. The procedure should be carried out twice per season: the first when the shoots grow to 15 cm in height, the second when the buds form.
  3. Fertilizer. It is advisable to feed the crop every 20 days. It is best to alternate superphosphate and bird droppings solution. It is recommended to apply fertilizers for the last time during the period of active flowering.

Using wood ash as a fertilizer for Elmundo potatoes helps increase starch levels in the tubers

Harvest and storage

Harvesting potatoes is an important stage. If you organize it early, the tubers will not have time to ripen and grow to the required size and will be stored worse, and if you start harvesting late, the vegetable may get sick. The Elmundo variety is usually dug up closer to mid-June, but new potatoes can be removed from the ground as early as the last days of July. After cleaning, it should be dried thoroughly.

Store the harvest in a cellar or vegetable store, where the temperature does not rise above +3 °C. When optimal conditions are created, it can lie for four to nine months.

Conclusion

Elmundo potatoes are a strong, early, high-yielding variety of crop. Well suited for planting on personal plots and farm fields. It has a table purpose and is widely used for preparing first and second courses. Judging by the reviews of vegetable growers, many consider it one of the best types of crops.

Reviews from gardeners about Elmundo potatoes

Ilyina Ekaterina, Krasnodar
We grow Elmundo potatoes in the fields for subsequent sale. The variety is in high demand and has many advantages. It transports well, lasts a long time, and brings a stable harvest every year. The good news is that it practically does not get sick and ripens much faster than many other varieties.
Nikolaev Andrey, Voronezh
Elmundo started planting potatoes recently, three years ago to be exact. The variety is not bad, quite hardy and quite persistent, however, several times a season you have to get rid of the Colorado potato beetle. The harvest is good, there are a lot of tubers on one bush, but digging them is quite difficult, since they are located at a decent distance from each other. It often happens that potatoes go unnoticed.
Vetrov Yaroslav, Volgograd
Elmundo planted for the first time this season. So far I can say that the variety produced a good harvest, the potatoes are quite large, and there are a few small things. The taste is normal, ideal for frying, does not fall apart. The puree takes a long time to cook. If it stays well until spring, then next year I will plant it again.
