Every Russian summer resident who grows his own vegetables in his garden, first of all selects the most fruitful crops that are resistant to the climatic conditions in the region and are easy to care for. The Russian Bogatyr tomato is just such a crop that is suitable for cultivation in many Russian regions. These tomatoes produce the highest yields in the Central Black Earth regions.
History of appearance
The originator of the Russian Bogatyr tomato is the Russian company “Russian Garden”. Representatives of the organization began developing this tomato variety in the early 2000s. Breeders Ilyev P., Dynnik A., Korotkov S., Nalizhyty V., Korochkin V. worked on the project.
After successful completion of testing of the new crop, the Russian Bogatyr tomato was entered into the State Register and allowed for large-scale cultivation, i.e. both on agricultural fields and private land plots.
In the central and southern regions of Russia, the crop can be grown in open ground, and in the northern regions - in greenhouse conditions.
Description and characteristics of tomato variety Russian Bogatyr
The Russian Bogatyr tomato is a low-growing variety. The height of the bushes in different growing regions reaches 60-80 cm. At the same time, the tomato bushes are quite compact, with a powerful, developed trunk, slight pubescence, and a branched, semi-spreading crown.
But, despite their compactness, tomato bushes of the Russian Bogatyr variety, due to the rather large and heavy fruits, require garter during the growth process.
Small green leaves with a matte surface form on the bushes. They have a slightly elongated shape with a pointed end. The leaves are also distinguished by the presence of roughness. In the absence of moisture they curl up.
The type of inflorescence of the Russian Bogatyr tomato is intermediate. The first flowers form above the 7th leaf, then every 1-2 leaves. The buds are medium in size and have a yellowish tint. On a tomato bush, six to eight clusters are formed, each with 4-5 fruits.
The weight of one tomato varies from 90 to 150 g. The first fruits, which form on the lower branches of the bush, are the most massive.
Unripe specimens have a light green tint. Fully ripened tomatoes of the Russian Bogatyr variety are characterized by a red-raspberry or completely red color. The skin of the fruit is quite dense and smooth. It prevents the vegetable from cracking. Therefore, harvested tomatoes tolerate transportation well.
The Russian Bogatyr tomato is quite fleshy and has juicy, somewhat watery pulp. Inside, a tomato consists of many separate chambers, but they contain few seeds.
When it ripens
The Russian Bogatyr tomato is classified as mid-season.
Fruiting of the crop occurs in several separate stages. Tomatoes are usually harvested from July to August. But in different climatic regions of Russia, the ripening period for Russian Bogatyr tomatoes may differ slightly.
Tomato yield Russian Bogatyr
With proper cultivation of the crop, you can harvest up to 5-6 kg of tomatoes from one bush. For 1 sq. m, the yield will be from 12 to 14 kg. Agricultural enterprises growing vegetables on an industrial scale collect from 291 to 381 centners per 1 hectare of planted tomatoes.
Disease resistance
The hybrid variety Russian Bogatyr is resistant to many plant diseases. To get the maximum yield of tomatoes, prevention against diseases and harmful insects must be carried out.
Growing regions
The Russian Bogatyr variety was specially developed for growing tomatoes in any Russian region, regardless of climatic conditions. In warmer areas, the crop can be grown in open land plantations. In the northern regions, this variety gives an excellent harvest when grown in greenhouse conditions.
Purpose and application
The Russian Bogatyr tomato is a large, juicy, aromatic fruit with a bright, rich taste. They last a long time. Fleshy tomatoes with a slightly sweet taste are great for fresh consumption.They are added to salads, various hot dishes, and soups. They make delicious juices, tomato pastes, sauces, smoothies and jams. You can preserve it in pieces.
Advantages and disadvantages
Russian Bogatyr tomatoes are popular among domestic gardeners. The variety is unpretentious to care. It can be grown in any region of Russia.

- fruits are not prone to cracking;
- disease resistance;
- increased yield rates;
- wide scope of application.

Landing technology
Seeds of the Russian Bogatyr variety are germinated using standard technology. They are subjected to pre-treatment: soaked in water, then poured with a solution of potassium permanganate and washed.
Loose fertile soil is poured into the container for planting seeds. Make holes up to 2 cm deep for the seeds. After sowing the crop, the soil is generously moistened with water, after which the container is covered with plastic film.
Loose soil is added to the container with the sprouts and watered abundantly. For effective growth, seedlings need natural ultraviolet light. Therefore, it is recommended to place pots with sprouts on the windowsill on the sunny side.
If natural light is not enough, ultraviolet lamps are used. Then the stems of the crop will not stretch unnecessarily, and the bushes will form evenly.
Tomatoes are a heat-loving crop that does not tolerate significant temperature changes. Therefore, it is not recommended to rush to plant seedlings in open ground. It is worth waiting for a stable above-zero air temperature with a slight decrease overnight. Depending on climatic conditions in different regions of Russia, Russian Bogatyr tomato seedlings are planted in the ground from May 15 to June 5.
