Tomatoes Pink King: variety description, photos, reviews

The Pink King tomato is a mid-early hybrid, ideal for growing in open ground and greenhouses. Tomatoes have good taste and are often used in fresh salads.

High-yielding tomato tolerates frost well and is resistant to diseases

When and how did it appear

Every year, new tomato hybrids with high productivity and resistance to major diseases appear in the world of domestic breeding. This is exactly what the Pink King variety is. It owes its appearance to Russian breeding scientists who set themselves the task of obtaining a high-yielding hybrid. And they succeeded.

In 2007, the Pink King variety was tested and approved for use

Description and characteristics of tomato Pink King

The Pink King has the following characteristics:

  1. The hybrid belongs to the identerminate type, that is, the plant is not limited in growth and can reach 1.8-2 m. To prevent the stems from spreading along the ground, they need to be tied to a support.
  2. Due to the fact that the bush is tall, it is necessary to form it into one or two stems and carry out pinching. The procedures allow you to get a good harvest of large fruits.
  3. On the shoots of tomato there are green pinnately divided leaves of medium size. The inflorescence is simple, formed after 8-9 leaves. The flowers are small and yellow. The fruits are borne in a flower cluster of three or more.
  4. The tomatoes are large in size, each weighing from 250 to 350 g. They have a regular round shape and are painted a beautiful pink color.
  5. The skin is thin but dense. It reliably protects fruits from cracking.
  6. The taste of tomatoes is excellent, sweet, with an unobtrusive sourness in the aftertaste.
  7. The pulp is juicy, fleshy, dense. There are 5-6 seed pockets inside. The seeds are small.

The fruits tolerate long-term storage (up to a month) without loss of taste.

Ripening and fruiting

On average, 105-110 days pass from planting to harvesting. The plant enters the fruiting stage 60-70 days after emergence.

Tomato yield Pink King

The Pink King tomato variety has a long flowering period, which ensures productivity throughout the season. Summer residents collect up to 5 kg of fruit from one plant. This is a very good indicator, but if desired, you can achieve better yields. To do this, about a month before the last harvest, you need to pinch the tops of the bushes by ⅓. The procedure also helps improve the taste of the fruit and speed up ripening.

Important! Ripe tomatoes must be harvested in a timely manner so that they do not inhibit the growth and development of the plant.

Disease resistance

The variety is endowed with strong immunity.However, it must be maintained with preventative treatments. Vegetable growers note that tomato has particularly good resistance to fusarium.

Too frequent watering and cold, rainy weather can lead to gray mold on tomatoes.

Where is it grown?

The Pink King variety is zoned in the Central region and the middle zone, including the Moscow region. The plant is resistant to adverse weather conditions, which is why tomatoes are successfully grown in Altai and the Urals.

Purpose and application

This variety of tomato is used for salad purposes. Ripe fruits are mainly used fresh. Many people make juices from them. Tomatoes are not only tasty, but also beautiful. The surplus tomato harvest is sold on the market.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Pink Pearl tomato variety has strong qualities that make tomatoes valued by vegetable growers. Its most important advantage is high productivity. The plant reliably bears fruit every season with proper care.

The tomato hybrid Pink Pearl leads in large-fruitedness among other pink-fruited varieties

Pros:

  • transportability, long-term storage;
  • drought and heat resistance;
  • disease resistance;
  • full germination of seeds;
  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • excellent taste and product quality;
  • excellent tying, regardless of weather conditions.

Minuses:

  • rapid formation of shoots, which requires systematic formation, tying, pinching.

Planting dates and scheme

Tomato seedlings of the Pink King variety are transferred to the greenhouse at the end of April or early May, and planted in open ground in the middle or end of May, when the threat of return frosts has passed. Moreover, the timing directly depends on the growing region.

In the middle zone, tomato seedlings are planted in open beds on June 12-24, in the northern regions - on June 20-30, in the southern regions the dates are shifted back by 1.5 months.

With the onset of warm weather, they begin to prepare the site for planting tomatoes. To begin with, uproot the roots of old plants and remove all large stones. Then rotted manure (3 kg per 1 sq. m) and wood ash (a glass) are added for digging. The surface of well-loosened soil is leveled with a shovel.

Plants are planted at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other, and the distance between rows is maintained at 60-70 cm

Tomato planting scheme:

  1. Dig planting holes 10-15 cm deep, loosen and water.
  2. Containers with tomato seedlings are spilled with water, the seedlings are carefully removed and placed in holes.
  3. Holding the tomato by the stem, cover its roots with soil. During the process, the plant is slightly lifted and shaken to avoid the formation of voids.
  4. The soil around the tomato bush is compacted and mulched with straw or sawdust.

After planting, the seedlings begin to gradually take root in the soil. After about 7-10 days, the tomato bushes are fed with a solution of calcium nitrate.

How to care

The Pink King is an unpretentious variety that does not have any special planting requirements and does not require active care. To get a good harvest, it is enough to follow standard agrotechnical rules.

Tomato loves watering, but the frequency depends on the stage of plant development. Young bushes are watered once every seven days, pouring a liter of liquid under the root.

At the stage of fruit ripening, the frequency of watering is increased to once every five days, pouring three liters of water under each bush.

There is a misconception that tomatoes like frequent and abundant watering.On the contrary, excessively wet soil harms vegetable crops.

Among fertilizers, potassium sulfate is well suited for tomatoes. The fertilizer contains nitrogen, which promotes plant development and the formation of a lush crown.

At the stage of fruit set, boric acid is used. To obtain a solution, half a teaspoon of the substance is dissolved in 10 liters of water. Spraying is carried out in the early morning or evening from above on leaves and brushes with flowers and ovaries.

When the tomatoes begin to fill with juice, the bushes are fed with phosphorus. This is a very useful substance for tomatoes, without which the fruits will not be juicy and sugary. In addition, phosphorus helps improve immunity and stress resistance.

Treatment against diseases and pests

The Pink King tomato variety is able to resist many diseases and pests. With proper care and maintaining a high level of immunity, bushes rarely get sick.

Important! For preventive purposes, it is recommended to regularly treat plants with drugs such as Fitosporin and Trichodermin.

Among the harmful insects that plague tomatoes are the nightshade miner and the tomato rust mite. The insecticides Kemifos, Actellik and Iskra M help in the fight against them.

A large loss of tomato yield up to 50% is associated with the activity of rust mites

Conclusion

Tomato Pink King shows good results in almost any weather. The main thing is to comply with watering standards and provide it with even lighting. There are usually no particular difficulties in caring for this hybrid.

Reviews from summer residents about the Pink King tomato

Vera Mikhailovna, Barn
Every season I sow Pink King tomato seeds for seedlings. As a rule, problems with germination do not arise.I don’t plant many tomato bushes, since the variety is not suitable for growing, but only for eating. But there is still a lot of harvest.
Pavel Ivanov, Smolensk region
I grow Pink King tomatoes in the open ground at the dacha. The bushes are strong, do not get sick and grow well. At the end of the season I harvest a rich harvest of tomatoes. I keep fresh vegetables for food and process the excess. I sell the twists at the market and distribute them to relatives.
